Background
‘Fireflies & Bedouins’ is the third album by American alt-rock singer-songwriter, Brandon Caulfield. It is set for release on November 26, 2011 under Chaos Records. Recorded at an abandoned warehouse in Los Angeles called The Barn sees Caulfield team up with his backing band once again following the critical success of his previous effort, Into The Wild Part II and the release of Fireflies & Bedouins will see a remarkably productive year for the singer-songwriter as it marks his third album of 2011. The album was recorded between August and November 2011 and saw Caulfield work on specific songs for weeks in an attempt to perfect the lyrics, the title track in particular took Caulfield over 3 months to finish writing. While writing the title track, Caulfield wasn’t initially planning on recording another full length album until early 2012 but following the writing the writing of the title track he decided to work on more songs and subsequently decided to base the album around that particular song and eventually led to Caulfield’s decision to name the album Fireflies & Bedouins.

Caulfield and his backing band began writing and recording the album in August 2011 in an old warehouse in Los Angeles, California, at the time Caulfield didn't have a record deal and funded the recorded process himself, in late October Caulfield signed a record deal with Chaos Records when the album was almost completed, the label will be distributing the album worldwide on it's release date of November 26, 2011. The album's core elements are what Caulfield has become known for, emotional Acoustic/Piano based songs which he was hugely praised for after the release of his previous album, Into The Wild Part II.

Writing a blog on his official website, Caulfield confirmed that the album would be somewhat of a concept album in which the songs inform each other to tell a story about the transformation of an awkward teenager. He did confirm that the music will be very much the same as his previous work which revolved around emotional lyrics and his acoustic/piano based songs. He also confirmed that this could be his final album for a while as he plans to put his music on the back burner to focus on his own personal life.

Brandon’s Comments
“Fireflies & Bedouins is the type of album that I always wanted to create, it tells a story throughout and that’s something that always fascinated me, I’ve always been drawn to stories and you read things like The Great Gatsby and The Catcher In The Rye and I always thought, you know what I want to be able to write something like that. I’m not a novelist by any stretch of the imagination, I don’t have the attention span for that and so I thought to myself, I want to create that kinda thing but with music. I want to create a kind of album, where you fall for the characters as mess up and warped as they may be and you follow their story and for me I think that makes it a much richer listening pleasure and so it took a little more time to craft the song which is why it took around four months to finish the album.

The album follows a young adult, he’s struggling to understand the world and everything around him and he’s kinda trying to find that thing to make him whole, that one thing that we’re all searching for, he’s not quite aware of what it is at first but it becomes clear to him when he meets a young girl with a carefree attitude, the story follows their relationship as they fall for each other but with his country at war, he realises that he has to leave her and go to fight, the song follows him being far from the girl he loves and how he’s torn between fighting for his country and the love that he has for the girl.

The experience of bringing these songs to life was something that I’m always gonna remember, I worked with my backing band on these songs for a few months and on that day when we stepped back and realised that we’ve finished the record, well that gave a sense of, well we’ve accomplished something great right here and for me it’s not about pitch perfect vocals but more about the emotion that you put across in the songs. I think there was always the risk of disappointing people with the decision to make this a concept record, but I think that the music is exactly what people will have come to expect from me and I feel that this is the best set of songs that I’ve ever written, I’m proud of the album that I’ve managed to create and hopefully you guys enjoy it too.”
