"Welcome to Buzznet's One To Watch In 2012, as always, im your host, Audrey Kitching! Tonight, our focus is on Californian rock band, Misery Loves Company! They have a turbulent year, their journey so far is not only admirable, but a crazy roller-coaster ride. Members Ryan Williams and Nathan Barker will be joining us tonight as we talk to them about their new EP and much, much more.
That's not all.. we we're lucky enough to get a sneak listen to the new EP.. so, we will be giving you the lo-down on each track. Exciting. Now, lets get to it, oh that came out wrong.. ladies and gentleman, Misery Loves Company!"Audrey sits on her luminous pink chair as Ryan and Nate take their seats on the green sofa after greeting fans on their entrance to the stage. Audrey: Boys, its been far too long since you have been in this studio! Ryan: We miss it just as much as you do, Audrey! Audrey: Ok, first things first.. your down a member tonight, where is hiding?Nate: Josh just got back from Australia. So, he is understandably jet-lagged and unfortunately won't be making it tonight. Audrey: Aww, bless. So, to confirm things, there is now only 3 in Misery Loves Company? Ryan: Yeah, me, Nate and Josh are MLC now. Riley left to spend more time with his family, which we respect him fro and love him too bits. Its not the end of him either, we wish him all the luck in the future and hope he gets back into music at some stage. Audrey: Are their any plans to bring in a replacement? Ryan: That hasn't really been finalized yet. We kinda.. wanna just go at it ourselves, but who knows. We worked with our good friend Sean Daniels for this EP, he recorded bass on some of the tracks. And ah, he's definitely someone we'd like to collaborate again with as he is an incredible musician and a really great guy. Audrey: On the EP note. Just 3 months after your debut, and a new EP!? Nate: Yeah... we, just love making music, really. Any chance we get to hit the studio we do.. there is nothing we love more than making music which we love. Of course playing live is also a great thing, which we adore. Ryan: Exactly. As Nate said, we love getting into the studio. This EP was actually scheduled for a March/April release as a full-length LP. However, we scrapped that earlier this month.. for the only reason we wanted to get something out and take a different vibe on the next record. Audrey: So a new record is already in the works? Ryan: Well.. technically, yes. I mean, we have recored 1-2 songs that we plan to put on the record, but its a long way from competition. We're looking to take it a different direction also, have more of an input into it. Audrey: Ooh, im intrigued! As im sure your aware, your label contract will be up after this EP is released. Do you hope to extend your stay on Studio60 Records, or have you already been planing for life without the world-wide record label?Ryan: Hmm. Its, actually been something we've talked about quite a bit. We have had one or two chats with people at Studio60 about the situation.. the vibe we're getting from them is that we are welcome to stay. Although.. we kinda, wanna go our own. I mean, we would love 100% input into everything MLC does.. we're not saying thats going to be easy, but that way we would know that if the record isn't the way we wanted it too be.. its our fault. And vice-versa. So, as of yet.. we're undecided, and we know this wont go down well but.. we're looking down all avenues first. Audrey: Go you! Either way, im sure you will make great music. So, you have completed the debut headliner lsat month.. now you will be on the road with Suburban Sunrise, yes? Nate: Correct. We will be supporting Suburban Sunrise along with Aaron Marks starting this month and finishing around January/February. So that should keep us on our feet for a while. We love touring so we know this will be a blast, SS are one of our favorite bands around at the minute and Aaron Marks.. well, that guys incredible! But yeah, looking forward to getting out and seeing the kids again. Audrey: Any plans to tour outside the US? Ryan: YES! Next April we will be in the UK! We are super stoked for that, its a place we have always wanted to play but just never got round to finalizing anything for it. Then in May we will be down-under! Again, another incredible place which we are delighted to announce we will be playing. Support for both is still open, so, we will make our decision soon! Nate: We want to get to South America too, our Brazilian fans are incredible and are begging us to go there! Audrey: Do you guys take any breaks!? Anyway, your new EP, 'Being Bad Feels Good', what can you tell us? Ryan: Its out 22nd December.. that is all. Kidding. It's a 6-track EP, which we are really proud off. We put a lot of effort into it, and just hope it paid off. Sd we've stated before, lyrically its much darker. Heavier? I would say, in places.. yeah. Although again, their is one song that could easily make a Coldplay or U2 record. We feel it is much more advanced from TSTTS, which when i listen to it back, makes me cringe. Maybe im just too critical on it, 'cause we made it.. but yeah. Nate: We aren't expecting as much as a reaction this time out. Which we are 100% cool about. It's not for everyone, of course.. but i love it. Audrey: Boys this is great stuff. I heard it earlier, and let me tell you all.. it is incredible! Ryan: Thank you. Audrey: What are your favorite songs on the EP and why? Nate: Oh. I would say Tease To Please. For the reason, we really got to go crazy with it. Its something different from anything we've ever done, we incorporated a little trancy-synth for the intro and it sounds huge! Ryan: Mines would be Find My Smile with Amy Meyer. Its probably one of the more "pop" songs on the EP but its incredible. We asked Amy would she lay some vocals for it, and we are eternally grateful she accepted. That girl can sing, sing sing. She has an amazing voice. So, yeah that track.. i feel like its going to be a real crowd-pleaser, its just sounds anthemic at times. Audrey: Excellent stuff. Boys, thank you for taking the time to talk to us tonight. Ryan: It was our pleasure. Nate: Yeah thank you for having us.
"Now, I got an exclusive listen to the new EP earlier today and can I just say how amazing it is. The growth of the band has shun, and their maturity is amazing. Lucky for you, we're aloud to spill some juicy details about it!" Title: Being Bad Feels Good Released: 22nd December Recorded: Ocean Way Studios, October-November 2011 Genre: Rock Label: Studio60 Track Listing:1. Tease To Please 2. Little Devil (Feat. Sam Maine) 3. Being Bad Feels Good 4. Find My Smile (Feat. Amy Meyer) 5. Fuck Everything 6. Long Gone, Move On Tease To PleaseThis song really starts the EP off with a band. It has a synthed intro before bursting into one of the heaviest songs the band has ever produced. The lyrics are sung with attitude and its a fast-paced track which weighs in a quirky chorus. When the band say they we're aiming for darker songs here, this is what they mean. "Put me in handcuffs, tie me up // Do what you want, I don't give a fuck", is just an example of some of the lyrics. It is a banging tune which will cause many a head to bang live. Little Devil (Feat. Sam Maine)
Essentially, you can call this Drawing Blood pt.2. Its the second time the two have collaborated and boy what treat this is. The lead single off the EP which has charted at a high of 6 so far packs a catchy chorus and an infectious riff. Along with a snare and distorted guitars, Little Devil continues to build the momentum Tease To Pleas set. Being Bad Feels GoodThe title of the track comes from the film 'The Breakfast Club', and it is one of the most catchiest songs you will ever hear. It falls more into the pop-punk category again with dark lyrics and a big chorus. Williams vocals' soar under a huge melody courtesy of Heyler and Barker, the band sound like they have been making music for decades with this song as Williams sings about how he doesn't care for a ll the hate he gets, "I've got more enemies than friends, and I always will until this ends". Potential single contender. Find My Smile (feat. Amy Meyer)The real gem of the album. It hold the biggest comparison from their previous record, as it starts of on a low sounding instrumental, where Williams' calmly tells us how many times he's been depressed and down before the songs real golden point starts.. the chorus. MLC have always been a band that could write a killer chorus, and on Find My Smile, they have created their biggest and most powerful yet. He opens up about how his previous relationship killed him "I'm walking round with my hear ton my sleeve // Don't know why, don't know where, don't know what to believe". This is all before Amy Meyer puts her stamp on the song. The red-haired sensation, comes in and sings the final chorus herself, as Williams take a breather. The two different voices coming together is something to behold. Fuck EverythingPersonally, my favorite. Slightly misleading title, with most thinking it is another aggressive song, which in-fact it isn't. What MLC have created here is a truly fantastic rock song. Despite having very questionable lyrics, the song soars through its quick verses, where we are witness to something MLC have never done before.. create a guitar solo. Albeit it is short-lasted, the band continue to experiment as Williams screams in the bridge with a rather upbeat chorus. The band told me they would like to release this as a single, but the title would be the only thing stopping them. Long Gone, Move OnToday, the band talked about how some of their music could easily make it on a Coldplay record.. and this is a great example. The album closer is the only real ballad of the album and takes charge with an electronic bass drum, as they continue to experiment to find their perfect sound. Williams slowly recites his memories of his lost love, regretting his actions, it is easy to see that music like this is where his voice excels. The song is truly beautiful, as Williams tries to do everything to keep the memories of this girl with him despite what seems like the world telling him to move on. Drummer Josh Heyler is absent from this song, as it stays with the nostalgically low tempo as a piano plays the song and EP out. MISERY LOVES COMPANY - BEING BAD FEELS GOOD // OUT DECEMBER 22nd!
