Aaron Marks – live from his bedroom?
Within a fairly small, brightly light room, covered from head to toe in various band posters, lyrics sprawled across the walls, and numerous instruments seen throughout the back wall, Aaron Marks sits down with his webcam on, waiting to perform a surprise mini-acoustic set from within his own bedroom. With bags under his red eyes, and unwashed, matted hair, Aaron looks rough however, still smiling away to himself as he prepares himself to play two new songs to whoever decides to watch the live stream.
As he turns the webcam on, he smiles awkwardly at the camera, before saying in his standardly high-pitched voice “hey guys, hope that you enjoy what I’m gonna do tonight...” he pauses, and laughs to himself, “don’t get any inappropriate ideas guys, I don’t mean it in THAT WAY. What I mean is, I hope that you enjoy the two songs I’m gonna play tonight.”
After reading through the replies left within the chat box, most being from 14 year old fan girls, focusing on his looks (“OMG AARON UR SO HOT, MARRY ME XXXXXX”), Aaron picks up the first acoustic guitar that his placed directly behind them, and announces to the camera “This first song, you’ve already heard.. well I’d hope so anyway! It’s my new single, but without Derek ‘cause he’s at home preparing for tour, so I’ll do my best to replace him.”
Aaron begins to play the blues based guitar riff, which is the only element of the acoustic version of the song. It appears that he is playing the guitar itself faster than the studio version itself, but his vocals are slower, and lower to try and match those of the guest vocalist within the studio version, Derek Baker. As Aaron gets to the chorus, he changes the guitar riff from the standard blues based to an upbeat chord, before rapping the whole of Derek Bakers verse, in a higher tone than Derek himself would do, but not messing up any lyrics. The song comes to a close, with Aaron talking to the virtual audience, “sorry that it’s different, I found it hard to do the whole acoustic version without another guitarist, but what ya gonna do?!.”
After leaving to get a drink of water, Aaron sits back down at his webcam, asking those watching to request a song for him to play. A variety of replies, including a multiple of requests for a new song, are said, with the most popular seeming to be his debut single “It’s True, I’m Trouble” and “You’re Alive (Why Ask For More?)”, Aaron choosing to spontaneously behind playing the opening chord of “It’s True, I’m Trouble” on his ukulele, which he had swapped his battered old acoustic guitar for whilst getting a drink. There is little change in the song from the original, with Aaron’s high vocals matching those of the recorded version. However, Aaron skips the xylophone based part of the song, and instead repeats the chorus, before ending the song.
“Anyway, that’s all for now. Sorry it’s only these two songs but I’ve gotta get up early to get ready to go to America!” Aaron says apologetically, yet with excitement in his voice at the prospect of him being in America within 36 hours. “If anyone is out there at one of the shows and sees me, come chill and stuff. I’d love that! Anyway, catch y’all later!”
