Johnny: Wayyyyy out in the country. In the sticks, or the boonies. My recording studio is out there as well. My home is also where we record now. Just look up the studio and you'll be sure to find us. Dress warmly and wear old shoes as well. You're a long way from New York out here Lily.

Joe: Ever see a bear up close or a deer even?

Johnny: We've got all kinds of animals running around out here. City people usually freak out! It's fun to watch. I remember when your wife found that possum in the garbage.

Joe: Ran through the house screaming thinking it was a giant rat. Hilarious. We just shooed it off into the woods. She's adjusted to country life quite well though.

OOC: Thank you man. I appreciate that. I'm my own worst critic so I don't think much of my writing. So I like some feedback. Hopefully Johnny will see Jason around soon. Got some big news planned that may surprise some people later.

The Kids have a Christmas show planned for Christmas Eve that will be free to all that want to come. It will be in Johnny's front yard at his home. Donations will be taken and given to charity. Naturally food and hot drinks will be provided because they aren't a bunch of dickheads. Come on down and have a Christmas show worth remembering for once!

This time of year it is very very important for us to remember as artists that with all the success and money we have it's imperative that we recall those that aren't as fortunate as we are. Even before we were big this is something we did every year and we'd give what cash we made to the local and national charities. So we want to keep this tradition going. Also if anybody else wants to show up and jam with us you'll be welcomed with open arms. Hope to see you there!

Johnny and Joe sound off on their recording Under The Influence complete with the liner notes as promised. Here are the first four tracks picked by Johnny and Joe respectively.

1. Santeria- Sublime

Individual performance: This song has always had a real haunting effect on me ever since I first heard it. The initial intro is made me instantly fall in love with the song. I can't really match Brad's vocal work but hearing him sing with so much heart and emotion really drove the song as well as the guitar work. I do my best to match Brad's phrasing and solos to the letter every time I play this. When I cover this song I think changing any content would be blasphemous. When I found out what the song was about it made it that more special. This was Brad's last battle cry against the needle and his need to stay clean for the sake of his son. It also seems as if it were his last words to him as well. Because deep down he knew he would eventually lose the fight. I try to do this song justice and keep it exactly the same every time I play it.

Collective Performance: The band as a whole all agree that this song should not be messed with when we cover it. Since we have two axe men I usually play the lead and Joe does rhythm. Collectively the band really comes together to make this song shine just as it did originally. It's untampered with and left pure just as it was written. We all think it was best to not change the song and leave it as is. I'm glad when we first started covering this song that we were all on the same page about it.

2. The River- Bruce Springsteen

Individual Performance: In my honest opinion, next to Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen is one of the great American folk rock troubadours out there today. The stuff he sings about really strikes a chord with me. That blue collar and hard times type stuff. It's the kind of life I grew up around. Since I come from a working class family. I love playing this song live and this is the first time we've ever recorded it in the studio. So we hope we can do it justice. I really brought my a-game for this one and I hope listeners and fans agree.

Collective Performace: We weren't sure how to do this when we walked into the studio and fooled around with it. But as usual we came to a general consensus to rock it up. Because when Bruce did it he did it as an acoustic tune with guitar and harmonica. So we decided to jam it up and make it sound good. Something that The Boss would be proud to hear you know. So we went into the studio armed with our axes and the idea to take those harmonica parts then turn them into guitar solos. We kicked that song's ass so to speak. For a minute I'm pretty sure I know how Bruce feels when the band comes together and everybody is just on. We were on for this song. Big time. We plan on releasing this song as a single soon.

3. Wagon Wheel- Old Crow Medicine Show

Individual Performance: When I talked to the guys about doing this song we weren't sure if we wanted to do it because we felt it was being overplayed as sort of our generation's Freebird. But that's when the mention of Skynyrd sort of fed my thought process. So I figured instead of playing this song acoustically let's make it a southern rock ballad and bring in the guitars as we usually do. When I layed down the solo work I wrote up for it the guys all agreed and we went straight to work. Roles were reversed here and I did the lead and singing because Johnny said I sound more "southern rockish" when I sing. I really rocked out some great solo stuff on the track that I think really took the song up another level. I'm proud of my work on this song and think this is probably the best cover I've done in a long time.

Collective Perfomance: Clyde's drumbeat intro for the beginning of the song really gave this song the kick it needed. Johnny had the real driving wheel by playing some great rhythm. Mack didn't miss a beat and this song came out very well. Much better than we expected even.We had one of those collective band moments in the studio where after we played the song we didn't even need to hear the playback. You all just kind of nod at each other and exchange fist pounds. We knew we had cranked out a good one as soon as it was done. Everybody could just feel it.

4. Ballad of Curtis Loew- Lynyrd Skynyrd

Individual Performance: This song was usually in response to the asshole that would yell for Freebird whenever we played in the bars. I love playing the rhythm parts better actually than having the lead. Because I really think the rhythm of this song is awesome. Real country and blues that drives the song along. This song is actually a favorite of ours to play whenever we play the bar room scene. Keeps the crazy drunk Skynyrd fans happy as well.

Collective Performance: Johnny is in my opinion one of the best slide guitar players I've ever heard. I can play slide myself but not as good as he can. He really knows how put on a slide and then make that guitar really cry and sing. So it's the one thing I do envy about him. The mastery he has over it is something to be had. Even though the drumbeat is a simple one Clyde told me that he has a great time playing it. He says it's the one tune that makes him feel like he's at home again. Mack cranks out those bass notes and we're all in line when we play this song. I can say I agree and so does the rest of the band. We sometimes do feel more at home and at ease when ever we play those songs that have a southern persuasion in them.

Mack and Clyde sound off on the album for the final tracks along with two selections to round out the album picked by you, the fans! The final tracks were at first covers only done live that the fans themselves asked to be done in the studio. Your wishes were granted.

5. Hyena/Maxwell Murder- Rancid

Individual Performance: I'll swear on my life that Matt Freeman is one of the most under appreciated and one of the most amazing bassists out there today. His lines are fast and heavy but he does it with so much ease. It's some pretty wicked stuff I must admit. So we added two tunes into one that really got to let me play around with my chops on the bass. I love killing the solo for Maxwell Murder because it's just so totally epic. One of the best I've ever heard really. I wanted to combine the tunes because they both really feature good bass work and it's why I love playing them so much.

Collective Performance: I'm a man of few words and so is Clyde. But I can remember playing the dive bars and the punk rock spots where we'd rip this one out. Then you would think we were a straight punk band than just an eclectic band of mystical and musical hobos. We always tear this one up and it's a good song to get the mosh pit started up. We would slay this one and then just go fucking nuts. Sometimes we'd jump into the pit. They're both one of those real good songs that makes you want to swing a fist and dive bomb elbows on to somebody's jaw. Then when it's over nobody's pissed and nobody wants to fight. You just look at the guy whose nose you bloodied and go "Good fucking song man!" Then he says "Fuckin' right man!" You shake hands and go have a beer. I miss that kind of comradery that the punk rock scene used to have.

6. Into The Mystic- Van Morrison

Individual Performance: If you listen to the original recording of this song. The bass parts to this tune are actually hard to pick out. But it is a very beautiful jazzy bass line with a nice little flowing ad-libby type solo at the end which is absolutely gorgeous. This is one song I just enjoy play for the pure aesthetic feeling of it. The entire bass piece is very smooth and fun to play. It's also well connected into the mix of the song even though it's hard to hear. But drives the song more than the horn section. This is one song that I just love playing because of the presentation and feeling of it all.

Collective Performance: We had to call in the horns special for this one thanks to some friends of Johnny's Grandpa Jack. The song is just one aesthetic piece of amazingness. In the studio we made sure that the arrangement was just right because it was another one of those songs that we feel that just should remain unchanged when covered. You just play it and hope to do it well. From the guitars, to the vocals, and all the other instrumentation. I found that it came together well. As I said before this is one you just don't tamper with. You leave it be, play it, and hope it comes out as you expect it too. We were pleased overall with it.

7. Moby Dick- Led Zeppelin

Individual Performance: This song is also jokingly called "Clyde's A Douchey Showoff Who Wishes He Was John Bonham." John Bonham and Keith Moon are the greatest drummers ever in my opinion. I love hammering the skins on this one and try to channel John from rock n' roll valhalla. It's a fucking masterpiece that I'm lucky enough to be able to do. Though it took me a few takes because I messed up a few times I'll be honest. But when I finally got it flawlessly and we finished I wanted to run screaming naked with hysterical joy through the woods. We rarely play this live unless we feel like we're really on that night. But every time I get through it without fucking it up I just want to break my sticks and burn my kit in sacrifice to the Gods.

Collective Performance: Besides the epic drum solo there's some amazing guitar licks in this song. Everything in this song just screams amazing. This is the song that Johnny usually takes a brief break on and lets Joe have the stage to slay this one. Which was the same way in the studio. It came just as good as it does on stage when we decided to bring out. I'm proud to say that I play with these guys every time I hear us do something awesome. You can hear Johnny yelling through the booth at the end of this tune. We also included a few of the out takes of this song at the end of the next song.

8. My Generation- The Who/Moby Dick fuck ups

Individual Performance: [i]Along with John Bonham. Keith Moon is a God on the drums. This song really shows the ability he has on the drums. He does some of the most epic rolling work I've ever heard. I can say that's the most fun I have as well is when I get to roll like a mad man across the drums especially toward the end. I just love the good hard rhythm from beginning to the wham bam stick work at the end. I am not Keith Moon either but I got through this one a bit more easily. Even though I consider myself a great drummer I don't think I'm among the caliber of John and Keith. The out takes we included as a joke illustrate that no rocker can be as perfect as he pretends to be. Hope you don't mind the cursing and mother fucking and fuck me's thrown in there. I can't remember how many drum sticks I broke or threw across the room. But it doesn't matter because it seemed appreciated by all the laughter by everybody else. But it was good fun.

Collective Performance: [i]This song is really known for any amazing solo work on the guitar but the rhythm is quick and sharp. The harmonies we actually can manage to sing on this one so we do. We shine in this song just because we prove we can sing a little when called for. Though Johnny is a better singer than he gives himself credit for in my opinion. All in all this song and this another album was another one well done. Not only that but we had fun and that's what really mattered.

Those Meddling Kids announce a hiatus with an explanation provided by their front man. Johnny McDougal who speaks out about the decision on his blog.

I don't thinks this comes as a shock to any one or the fans. Because we saw it coming down the pipe after this latest album. Now this won't be a permanent thing so don't go throwing yourselves out windows or go into screaming hysterics. Because we do plan to get together later on down the line. I just want to further my solo career and Joe wants to spend more time with his wife and baby son. Though he has offered to be touring and session guitarist for my solo project on select engagements. Along with that he is also offering his services as a studio musician for any artist that wants to employ him. He also plans to keep working with the side project that he and his wife had started but this won't also be a regular thing. Joe and his wife will be making small singles and EP's with small touring schedules. But I respect his major decision to put family first. The rest of the band just wants to rest and take an extended break for different reasons. The only other active musician from TMK will be Clyde who will also offer himself for mostly DJ and techno type work under the name DJCB. We do plan on releasing a small 5 song ep soon before going on this hiatus so don't worry people we will be making one more run into the studio.

I've wanted to do this for some time now to further my solo career as I said. Also I want to really work with my grandfather more individually as well. I've decided to call my solo project Southland. But you can call me by name, Johnny McDougal Band, or whatever you like. I want to do more alt. rock and country along with blues and folk to branch out a bit more into territories I felt TMK couldn't quite touch as a working entity. We've all agreed on this and think the break and change will be really what we need. There's been no time frame discussed though how long this thing will be. So it could be months or years. But we'll be back don't worry. It was just time for a change of pace and a different direction for a while.

One More Jug

One More Jug is the name of TMK's six song EP before they take their hiatus. The band says they had the most fun doing this album even though it's their last recording together as a band before their hiatus. There are of course no hard feelings and the parting was rather emotional. Here are the songs with liner notes written by Johnny.

1. Cocoanut Soda In February

This song has been on backlog for quite a long time because we weren't too sure on what album we wanted to put it on. The title came from a literal circumstance. Joe and his wife were officially married back in February around Valentine's of last year. They had it done in a private ceremony down in Hawaii. It was nice to be somewhere warm when winter was killing everybody us. So here we were drinking alcohol spiked cocoanut soda's on the beach around a fire. Trading stories from our days as teenagers and reminiscing all the good times we had coming up. Looking at then and wondering how in the hell we got to now. None of us ever really expected this to happen. Being any where near notable or famous that is.

2. Fine Leather Truck (Feat. "Joe Bob" Reynolds on vocals)

Joe is a good friend of mine who will be taking over the instrumental duties in my new solo project. He plays a mean guitar and mandolin as well. Not only that but he can really sing with a real country twang that is just his style of singing really. So we did this song with him in mind. Because when you got a song about a truck. You need somebody that sounds the part singing about it. We had a good time doing this one. Joe is actually older than all of us as well so he's like the second patriarch of the band for us next to my Grandad.

Listen Here:

Fine Leather Truck

3. Baby Please Don't Go

Just about every band and every artist I can think of has covered this song. So we thought why not add our stamp on it? Big Joe Williams was the first to originally write and record this song in 1935. This was just one song we decided to do because we trade some blistering guitar solo's on it. Which is exactly what we did. Turning this song that has been done by everybody from Aerosmith, Ted Nugent, and Van Morrison into one of our own little masterpieces of electric guitar goodness.

4. Riding Down The Devil's Gun

This song was one I just wrote that has a lot to do with my overdose. It was just one of those life imitates art songs that I felt I had to get out there to really move on. Doing this song was a real way for me to officially let go and put it down with dignity. I'm glad that I did this with the band and they gave it the respect it deserved when we centered a lot of the parts around me. I really hate stealing the show and spotlight like that. But the guys didn't let egos get in the way and we really came together for it. Doing this only made us stronger and makes the future look promising.

5. John Henry

This is a West Virginia folk song seeing as that is where we are from. It's about a black railroad worker that beat a steam drill in a contest of who could beat down the most spikes. The ultimate battle of man versus machine. Surprise, surprise as well! We did this as a 3 man line up with myself on harmonica and vocals, Joe playing the cigar box slide, and Clyde cranking out the beats on the drums. Now this has nothing to do with the band not getting a long or anything. We just wanted to do something totally different and surprise the shit out of everybody. This also alludes to a possible Cruzers reunion down the line as we talked about amongst each other. This was sort of a practice run to get into the groove. We blew it straight out of the water.

Listen Here:

John Henry

6. Burn The Honeysuckle (Featuring "Joe Bob" once again)

I guess you could consider this song our goodbye song to the fans. But remember don't cry because we'll back again soon. We brought out all the traditional instruments for this one to give ourselves a proper send off. Joe did the song complete justice because he had the perfect voice for it and I can't wait to hit the road with him on my next endeavor. We loved doing this song and hope you enjoy listening to it. Also this has been one hell of a ride for us. We thank you fans for sticking with us through it. It's not over yet either. Not by a long shot. We'll see you on down the road.

OOC: John Henry's also a favorite of mine. I'm friends with that band's harmonica player as well actually. They're a nationally known blues act.

Hey everybody! It's your old pal Johnny here! Since we're going to be appearing at the Grey Ghost tomorrow we've decided to sell a brand new single to all you fans that come for the show! It's also available right now for a limited time! We figured it'd be a nice gesture to whet your appetites and keep you from pulling you hair out waiting for us to do something. So here it is! Brand new and freshly pressed! It smells good too!

1. I Don't Wanna Be The One

You may have heard us bust this one out during the Outlaw Tour. So you're even more lucky because you got to hear it in the developmental stages. Surprisingly enough we used it as the last song of our set one night just to test the waters and you people loved it! So this is the finished and more polished product. Got some guitar hooks in there that you can pump your fist too and some damn good lyrics to scream out at that damn crazy ex that you finally cut loose!

(Click on the song title to listen to all songs)

2. Bikeriders

A nice little tune about an outlaw biker and the girl that he loves. If this song don't make you cry you've got not damn heart. I love the nice little punk rock crank we put into this one. It's a real gem that came out way better than we expected. Hope ya'll like it!

3. My Best Girl

This a ballad about the best woman any man can have. That's his guitar. She's been through all the shit with him. She knows real heartbreak and pain. You can always find her waiting at home for you when you need her. She's got the perfect body for holding and she always makes the right kind of noise no matter where you lay your fingers. She's all yours and the only girl a guy needs.

(All songs credited to the awesome band Lucero)

Hope this little teaser will get you guys out there! Enjoy it!

erich:love it. a bond between a man and his guitar is second only to a man and his car. i usually play a gretsch 6120,she is my main squeeze. she has flaky electronics, and few of her original parts.

nina:i have a battered old telecaster i stole from an opening act years ago, love.
