I have a set of ALTEC LANSING speakers. I got them about a year ago and they were amazing for months and months, and the bass was always really good. However, my laptop broke and I didn't use the speakers for about 2/3 months. They picked up quite a lot of dust on top of them but the subs at the bottom, so I'm not sure if that effected it. But since getting a new laptop (a Samsung) the bass on the speakers doesn't quite seem the same? It's okay to listen to rock on but for things like rap, dnb and dubstep it lacks a bit of oomph that it always used to have.
Just wondering if anyone knows a solution? Could there be a build up of dust in the speakers making it quieter? Or is it more likely that my new laptop just doesn't have as good a specs as my last one? Which by the way was a Fujitsu-Siemens.
If it is the latter then does anyone know a way I can boost the bass without sacrificing too much sound quality? I listen to my music on Spotify primarily, but that never used to be a problem. I use Windows 7.
Merry Christmas to everyone btw, miss you guysh!!! |

It sounds to me like an EQ issue. Maybe you were playing it with a bass-heavy EQ before, and now it's flat. The only variable that could really have changed in this picture is the soundcard on the laptop and even that's unlikely to be anything other than an HD Audio.
I would look into whether you have different EQ settings in your music software, or if the speakers have treble/bass controls on them anywhere. Speakers don't go bad because of dust.
