Drag King Studios

Our Mission:
Founded in the early Winter of 2012 by John Newton, guitarist of Art Official fame, Drag King Studios is a modestly sized yet well equipped studio built on the West end of Philadelphia. We feature a constantly rotating group of trusted and professional staff members who’ll do their best to help all acts and bands that come through turn out records that work to satisfy their artistic vision and goals. Here at Drag King Studios, we’re more interested in getting to know artists coming through as people and building lasting friendships with them, as opposed to simply running through the standard motions. We want to help steer bands in the direction of where they want to go, instead of pushing them towards what any of us feel is best. With that in mind, although we’re open minded and excepting of all styles, if you’re looking for a 3-hit/9-filler type album, Drag King Studios may not be the best place for you.

Our goal is to develop a personalized recording experience, where we are as involved or laid back as you want, and at the end of the day, you call the shots!

Layout:
Our floor plan has been designed to make the most of a fairly limited space, but with some tight squeezing and a few broken City Codes, we’ve managed to become quite economic with the space given. The studio allows for multiple tasks to be handled at once for those under label time-crunches, or for as much experimentation as desired, should your little hearts wish it. We also endorse a wide variety of quality gear including DW Drums, Remo Heads, Shure, Audio Technica, Gibson Guitars, Orange Amplifiers, etc. etc., so tech nerds nation wide can rejoice!

Hey lads, keeping things brief, just want to say I’m real stoked to start meeting some of you freaks and lay down some “bitchin tunes”, no matter who you are. I’m hoping this’ll be a big chance to step out of my comfort zone and expand my horizons a bit with working with all sorts of talented people. If you got the drive and the artistic vision, I’ll back it! I do, however, reserve the rights to deny entry for Flavor of the Month Top 40 jingle music, so all you “Bringin’ tha ghetto back 2 tha MANE STREEM 2K12” folks may as well keep clear. New Yorkers too. Catching my drift?

Already have a producer in mind for your album? Want to get on our “Producer Roll”? Email us a quick description of you and your preferred genres of music and we’ll add you! Easy as Hillary after the California caucus!

OOC: Alright folks, here’s how this works. If you want to add a producer to the list, simply PM me with a short bio for them and a face claim if they’re a completely new character. If you want to have your band/artist record here, PM me and we’ll nail down a set time span. You can either request certain producers (read: Merely as an example, if you’re DYING to do an interactive studio RP with RRH [Aren’t we all?] you can PM PANIC! and I and see if RRH is available to commit to the RP), or I’ll simply announce when an artist has been booked and the first 3 or so people to respond saying they’re interested in taking part in the RP as producers/engineers will be added on :D

I’m hoping to work ahead of time with anyone who books a slot for their band to try to make the RP personalized for their artist/their RPing interests, so I’d say if you’re interested in this get in contact at least like a week before hand? I’m open to and encourage new ideas for different spins on the basic concept of an interactive studio RP, so fire away!

I know this is a bit brief, so PLEASE, ask questions if anything needs clarification, I feel like I got this mapped out clearly in my head, but that I might not be communicating it properly :)

Last thing, I had a quick question. Do you guys think it’d be more effective if each individual recording session had it’s own thread, or if this post just served as the master thread? I keep on debating back and forth, so outside opinions are welcome for sure!

(OOC: I love this. So much. I think it'd be really cool if this thread contained all of the recording sessions, because it'd be convenient to have them all in one nice, organized place. This is an awesome idea, though; I can't wait to start posting.)
Kid Anything- Indie/Britpop/Shoegaze; influenced by Sigur Ros, XXYYXX, Kanye West, Blur, Oasis

(Bringing together an eclectic group of influences, Ulysses' songs are sung with carefree abandon by Nick Junk)

Kurt Ulysses - Songwriter, Guitarist, Backup Vocalist
Nick Junk - Vocals, Mojo

Infinite- Alternative/Experimental Rock; influenced by Muse, Radiohead, and The Beatles

(Known best for their experimental music and their frontman's eccentric behavior, the band disbanded after Eric Quillington's death to pursue solo careers or, in Matt Robert's case, peace of mind. Infinite released four albums over the course of their career; Blue Nebula, Midnight Skies, Insomnia, and Dancing about Architecture.)

Eric Quillington (Deceased) - Lead Vocals, Lead Guitar, Piano, Primary Lyricist
Matt Roberts - Bass
Greg Oldson - Drums, Backup Vocals, Secondary Lyricist
Amelia Florentine - Keyboards, Piano, Lyricist, Backup Vocals

"When asked 'how do you write?' I invariably answer, 'one word at a time', and this answer is invariably dismissed. But that's all it is. It sounds too simple to be true, but consider the Great Wall of China, if you will: one stone at a time, man. That's all. One stone at a time. But I've read you can see that motherfucker from space without a telescope."

- Stephen King
