We were talking about this in the Chatbox just now. There are a few movies I would really like to watch just now. The main one is the new film directed/written by Steve McQueen (not that one) & starring Michael Fassbender, 2 years after their collaboration on the film Hunger (all about the 1981 IRA Hunger Strike in HMP Long Kesh), Shame. Where Fassbender plays a sex addicted man who is consumed by meaningless sexual encounters on a daily basis, whose work computer is full of porn as he can't go a shift without masturbating, it just takes him over. And then his sister, played by Carey Mulligan comes to town, who I remember Alex Navarro of screened.com describing rather ambigously as "damaged in a different way". It sounds like a dark examination of the human soul much in the spirit of Hunger which was possibly the best movie of 2008.

After that, well, there's The Muppet Movie. I love The Muppets. Almost to the point of obsession. I think they are hilarious, cute, adorable, sympathetic, entertaining & just wonderful, wonderful creations. And the reviews this film has recieved just makes me moist with excitement.

Those are the 2 films I'm most looking forward to seeing over the next month. I'll try to make comments on whatever film I watch next though. I'm considering re-watching Hunger at the mo, but the ever joyful Requiem For A Dream is also an option.

Watching the bamboozle 2011 documentary as I type this. People from Jersey who try to organize music festivals are funny.

It'd be cool if people would actually articulate their thoughts rather than just post pictures. I mean discussion on this board is all but fucking dead so why not make an effort to kickstart things?

Well, I want to see Drive for a number of reasons but the picture pretty much sums it up IMO. Best Director at Cannes, action-ish film starring one of the better actors since the start of the new decade and released by an independent company in Film District. I would say altogether that's the message I was going for.

Then Shark Night 3D is Shark Night. The picture does lie a little. 50% of the film does not in fact take place at Night, but 30% of the film does not have sharks in it, so we could call it "Mostly Shark-Filled Day and Night".

People post how they want to post, get over it. If you don't like pictures, don't look at the post. Sometimes you can't explain stuff.

Y'know, I don't think I really said anything dickish. It wasn't a demand, it was a suggestion. Look at the words: "It'd be cool if..." & "why not...?" Yeah, I used a naughty word. I use naughty words all the time. It doesn't mean my post is aggressive or dickish. I mean if I call someone a cunt then that's one thing, but just using "fuck" as an adjective in this context is just...a word.

Is what you are watching/just watched good or bad? Why is it that? Do you recommend it? It takes about 30 seconds to write a coherent sentence along the lines of "I enjoyed this movie. The acting was really good, as you would expect when featuring Brad Pitt, Ed Norton & Helena Bonham Carter. I also thoroughly enjoyed Meat Loaf's cameo in the film from a humour perspective. It's a kind of nihilistic film for want of a better word & so is obviously not for everybody, but this is a vibrant, exciting piece of cinema & possibly the finest film that David Fincher has directed. I should really read the book at some point."

And that was off the top of my head for a film I haven't seen in a year. 2 minutes top. Not a terrific piece of criticism, just a general positive recommendation for Fight Club, a movie which a lot of people might like. You've got the time to play pretend band, so why can't you take the time to write 100 words on why you liked or disliked something?

Cute but if people don't want to explain the movie then they shouldn't have to. Conversations start off randomly enough without having to write a paragraph on why you like a certain movie. If someone likes a movie on here, they can talk to the person, start a conversation, thread is lively and moving. You act as if your way is just the only smart way or something. I never called your post dickish or anything, I mean I called you an asshole, but definitely not a dick.

Anyway back on topic now...

Seriously looking forward to Act Of Valor. Its an upcoming action thriller about Navy SEALs who are handed tough missions. I know what your thinking, what's new huh? Well, get this.. the characters will be played by actual members of the secretive SEAls, they will use the roles they use in their workplace, in the film. Pretty cool. None of their names will appear on the credits however to keep their identity safe.

Also really looking forward to seeing Cell 211. Its a South American movie about a prison guard who on the first day of his job, is hit by a falling piece of building plaster. This also causes damage to the prison and some convicts get loose inside. The other prison officers hide the prison guard in a cell (a la 211) and run out before getting captured. At this stage the whole prison has gone wild, the inmates are still locked in.. but they have escaped their cells. The prison guard must try convince them he is one of them, and work with them to try escape.

Here, this seems much easier to show you what its about.

I love foreign action/horror films. They always have some of the best plots, like another one I want to see this year is Bait 3-D, in which a Tsunami hits in Australia and amongst other things, floods a supermarket, filling it with sharks.

---

I'm a little late to the party but I really need to see The Proposition, I'm a big fan of westerns, even moreso newer westerns in the steed of Red Dead Redemption (this film apparently influenced part of the plot), and the thought of Guy Pearce working together with Hillcoat (The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford) means the acting will be top-notch and the period pieces will be just right.

This shitty backwater in the middle of nowhere. Shame came out nationwide on Friday. Except here. Where it's not out at all this week or next. Bra-fucking-vo.

I decided to revisit a classic:

UserPostedImage

A staple of American Horror and a film combined with earlier instalment 'The Evil Dead' which launched Sam Raimi into legendary status.

Now tackling:

Attack the Block, some of you UKers might recognize it as the Sci-Fi film with the inner-city kids going against the aliens.

Aye, Attack the Block is a film I'd really love to see sometime soon. Sounds really good & Joe Cornish, the director/writer was part of an amazing comedy duo in the late 90s, the Adam & Joe Show.

It's actually really well-done. Nice Sci-Fi film, Cornish does a great job and aside from the usual horror business (Person goes to the eyehole and OMGALIENZ). I'm loving it so far, one of the best of 2011 and a great way to start my 2012 film-viewing. Probably gonna make a big effort to check out everything I can, from the crappy arthouse-mumblecore films to the "Artist"-type Oscar Darlings.

TL;DR: GO see Attack the Block every shot is used to make the film fun. Not gonna knock you off your feet with the awesome dialogue (even though the dialogue is awesome), but it will knock you off your feet with the balls-to-the-walls action. Watch it.

I don't know why, but for some reason the Hour Long TV Show is something that I'm naturally detracted from. Maybe it's because I feel the need to push through TV Shows at a breakneck speed and the half-hour episodes make it easier, but throughout the second half of last year, the Hour-Long episodes have been controlling my watching. Mainly because of three shows:

American Horror Story

Breaking Bad

Hell on Wheels/The Walking Dead
