There's bound to be a lot to discuss! Well, I hope there is, after so many hours of watching the show it better have a satisfying conclusion! Need to get the newest episode of Californication downloaded to watch this evening. David Duchovny is terrific in that show. |

LOST IS DONE! HAHA! So, yeah, It definitely had a conclusion. If you're on the fence about watching Lost I guessed I'd say it's worth watching. It's got interesting ideas & several interesting characters anyway. And now the spoiler tags. Lost discussion inside.
FUCK! THEY RUINED IT! OK, that's harsh. But after the show got really fucking dumb in seasons 4 & 5 I really liked season 6. I loved the flashbacks to the "what if the plane never crashed" alternate reality jazz, they really were kind of nice. I thought it was all really intriguing how all of what Jacob was saying, how we had saved them from their unpleasant lifes blah blah was proven wrong. And then it slowly turned out that these weren't their lives. But entirely different. Jack had a kid, his ex-wife was Juliet. Linus was a teacher. Jin & Sun never got married. ETC. That was all really interesting to me. And I fucking loved the episode all about the backstory of Jacob & his brother, that stuff was terrific. And then the explosion on the submarine, Jin & Sun dying was really almost teary stuff.
And then that fucking ending. Jesus Christ. How incredibely unsatisfying. It reminds me of Johnny Rotten on stage in his last ever show with the Sex Pistols: "Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?" So there was the time travel. Fuck time travel, OK? So the nuke goes off and thus the island is evacuated, blahdeeblah. Jacob never comes along to push everyone in the direction that he does. So why are they all on that bloody plane then? Exceedingly silly leap there. God, the more I think about it the more I'm a) confused, b) thinking of more shit that irritates me!
Originally I was just going to moan about how the ending seemed heavy on the inference of heaven and shit like that, but now I'm not even bothered by that as much as I am other things. Maybe I need to sit and think on it some more. But my gut response the second it ended was "unsatisfying" and that feeling is getting stronger the more I think about it.
Still, Desmond was fucking brilliant so there's that at least.

A lot of people misinterpreted the ending to mean "oh, the plane crashed on the island and everyone died and none of it really happened," which is kind of odd when one of the characters explicitly states that is not the case. Personally, I was more unsatisfied by the backstory Jacob and his brother than the main conclusion, because it threw away several extremely interesting mythological elements that up until then seemed really important.
The actual ending though, I found it satisfying enough because it drew a line under all the characters and more or less laid it out that it was important that these people met each other and shared some portion of their lives together, in many cases the most important part of their lives.
I'm surprised by your reaction to season 4 though, that was by far my favourite season, because the natural conclusion of a show where people are trapped on a mysterious island is that those people get off the island. On Lost they got off the island and realised that their lives were pretty fucking shitty, and nothing had changed but them. That and the fact it contains The Constant, probably my favourite or second favourite Lost episode. Season 5 I can see the problems there, the time travel stuff was really full of logical holes, but I loved the whole Dharma thing. It's a shame because I thought the way they did time travel with Desmond was really cool. Also I kind of loved how Jack went from "FUCKING TELL ME WHAT'S GOING ON YOU ASSHOLES!" to "I guess this must be that big thing we were meant to do, huh?" And the whole time Miles is like "don't any of you idiots realise how seriously fucking stupid this is?"
One thing that also kind of bugged me about the last season was how many red herrings they threw out there, how they bring back Claire for no real reason, and they talk about this evil "infection" that her and Sayid have, and all the stuff about the candidates and how Jacob at the last minute is like "yeah I took you off the list, whatever, if you want the job take it," and Widmore's involvement. They really were determined to hide where they were really going.

Boardwalk Empire... fanastic writting, excellent direction and the cast and acting invloved is second to none. just splurged on seasons one and half of seaosn two during the worst storm to hit the alps in 20 years, and i really really want the second half of the second season, as my fucking god, its good. Steve buschemi is just perfect as is the supporting cast..
if you don't know, its set att he start of prohibition era America and does feature a lot of real mob bosses and real events, such as the fixing of the world series.. Interesting period of history and very very interesting seeing how part time crooks are slowly turning into maniacal gangsters...
also the wire.... why have i not seen this before? |

also the wire.... why have i not seen this before? Boardwalk Empire has a way of pulling the wool over my eyes. If you haven't seen the Season 2 finale, don't click that spoiler tag.
Jimmy dying in the Season Finale and him having sex with his mother both left me pretty surprised. I like that Nucky is fully taking the front-seat now though.

Also about season 2:
I kind of saw his death coming. But yeah, the whole Oedipus thing was really interesting.

I finally got around to seeing Drive, and I must say that the film is brilliant. I already had high expectations going into it, but all those were exceeded when I watched it last night. While the first 50 minutes or so are dedicated to mostly the storytelling, not much dialogue to begin with and it gets to the point rather quickly. The last half of the movie is not for the squeamish, which you can probably figure out if you've watched the trailer. Once the stark and brutal violence begins, it does not end until the film concludes. What amazed me most, other than the great writing and acting throughout, is how the film was shot. Although it is set in present day, how they filmed it to give it an 80s feel to it was done so well. I know a few this in thread had mentioned it, and I definitely recommend now that it is out on Blu-ray and DVD.
Next up on my Netflix queue is Steven Soderbergh's Contagion. |

A friend was telling me about how fun the movie got once it reached the Elevator Scene and holy shit did it deliver. Saw the Soderbergh one too, it's brilliant as well. Got: Chronicle13 Assassins - Watching Now On my plate. |

Ryan Gosling is reaping his rewards now, for so long he was such an under-rated actor. Admittedly, I haven't seen Drive yet, but I really want too, ive heard nothing but good reviews for it.
Lost is still taking over my late night tv, but in line for me is Munich. Supposedly a really powerful film, looks great and also by Spielberg. |

Wooh, that other 'Music Forum' thread is getting ugly, but yeah Modern Family, if I ever watch it, it'll be because of Al Davis, the alternate Homer Simpson of the 90s. |

Saw the first episode of Homeland the other night on Channel 4. It was pretty interesting. From what I can tell you have the CIA agent hunting down an Al Qaeda operative who is working in the United States. So far, so very 24 & thus the potential for being really stupid & really jingoistic. But the CIA agent is revealed to be on some sort of anti-psychotic medication & illegally wiretaps the guys house, & the alleged Al Qaeda operative, played by Damien Lewis (best known to me as Major Richard Winters on Band of Brothers), is a US marine who has just been recovered from a terrorist base where he was held captive for 7 or 8 years. And so is a national hero who got a welcome back to the country by the vice president, all shown on TV.
So yeah, so far this show has the potential to be pretty interesting.
I've also been watching Californication since it has been back on. And man, this series is kinda fucking depressing. Hank Moody is trying to be a good dude & it just keeps turning on him. I really hope things improve for him, I really like Hank Moody, despite him being a selfish, arrogant cuntrag. |

I really like Damian Lewis. Although in fairness I really like every single actor in Band of Brothers. That show is just absolutely perfect. |

Band of Brothers is perfection. Especially the episode that takes place during the Battle of the Bulge. |
