Cheating the System - Never Win [2:56]
Lyrics
Blue eyes pierce through my skin,
They make me feel paper thin,
I hate to think that you’re with him,
Looks like I will never win…
I’ve been counting the days since you left me,
The number grows and grows,
I wish the power that you had over me –
Would pack its bag and go.
I hate the fact that I still love you,
I hate the fact that my heart does too,
I hate the fact that you’re the only one,
I hate that you are now gone…
Blue eyes pierce through my skin,
They make me feel paper thin,
I hate to think that you’re with him, (never win, never win)
Looks like I will never win… (never win, never win)
I can’t help but feel the way I feel,
I don’t want to lose what felt so real,
I wanna feel you against my skin,
Because I love you more than him.
I can’t help but feel the way I feel,
I don’t want to lose what felt so real,
I wanna feel you against my skin,
Because I love you more than him.
Blue eyes pierce through my skin,
They make me feel paper thin,
I hate to think that you’re with him,
Looks like I will never win…
Description
A simple acoustic guitar can be heard plucking a soft, slow tune over the winding play of a piano. The two different instruments fuse perfectly, helping to create a soft introduction to the song. Then a drum is hit and the acoustic guitar is replaced with a fast up-tempo guitar riff.
The vocals of both Tom Jolly and Ryan Wyler collide now as they sing the chorus together. Tom’s high pitched vocals slide smoothly into the electric guitar whereas Ryan’s marginally off-tone vocals don’t quite blend as smoothly. The electric guitars keep playing as the chorus finishes. Tom’s vocals stop now as Ryan moves into the first verse of the song. His vocals are better now that they aren’t being compared to Tom’s. After the fourth line of the verse Tom takes over with Ryan harmonising in the background.
The guitars pick up pace again as the steady drum beat hits it’s peak in pace, the chorus leads in and the two sing it together. This time, after the second line, in the background the husky vocals of Ethan Plyth can be heard repeating the words (Never Win).
The chorus finishes and now the electric guitars quiet right down so that the song is being lead by the piano. Ethan sings the second verse, and he shows off how much better his voice is than the other two easily. In the repetition of the verse, Tom and Ryan can be heard to be harmonising with him in the background. The electric guitars can be heard to be building up again as the final chorus approaches. Ethan holds the final note of the verse as Tom and Ryan sing the chorus again. Ethan joins into sing the last line. The vocals finish and then a short, 15 second guitar riff leads the song to a close.
