She's part of the promising new duo Hey Lolita who have their debut Hollywood EP receiving a release on 13th February, and the sultry Arianna Harley gave Vogue her first interview... all on her own!
As a newcomer, what's it like to be thrown out there and then receive all of this attention? I don't think I could ever say it's a bad thing, if people are showing interest, then that's always something good, isn't it? Whether the attention is on the music, or my looks, I don't know! I think it's always nice to be visually pleasing to the eye, so that doesn't hurt.
If we're going to talk about looks, I'd say your lips would most definitely come into it. So would I, it makes me giggle with how people pay so much attention to them! It's funny, I used to think it was a bad thing, but I can't hide away from it forever, I just have to embrace them. A lot of men like my lips, they say I'm a good kisser, I don't know if I can say that I am as I have never had the chance to kiss myself on the lips. My mother's side of the family are known for their lips, it's definitely in the family, my mother has lovely lips.
A certain man you spend a lot of time with is of course, Jared Nevo. What's the relationship between you like? I'm 25 and he's 23, so he's like my annoying little brother, always making comments, but he always looks out for me. We've grown very close since meeting each other last year in L.A. and we're nothing more than very good friends. We both know that.
Do you think the two of you could ever become something more? No! Definitely, definitely not. What is it they say? Never mix business with pleasure. Unless the pleasure is really that good, then you can forget about the business. Teehee!
I think it's not hard to see that you're a massive flirt and a lot of men in the industry are going crazy over you. Which lucky guy has caught your eye so far? I don't mean to be a flirt, I don't think I am. (giggles) OK, maybe just a little bit! I am very flattered with the compliments and attention that I have received though, big kisses to everyone for that. I think there are many attractive men in the industry, I couldn't possibly pick one.
Onto the music side of things, how would you describe Hey Lolita's sound? It's very quirky, when writing a song, whether it's alone or with Jared, I always strive to have a story to it, I don't like meaningless songs. Then we always try to match that story with a dramatic sound, like if it were played out as a movie. We just incorporate a bit of everything into our music, pop, indie, rock, alternative, and we blend it all together. I think it's hard to stick a certain genre on us, because even though people call us indie-pop or indie-rock, all of our songs are different genre-wise, so we shouldn't just be put inside a box with a genre stuck on it.
You seem to get the main focus in Hey Lolita, is this something done on purpose and will that change for the debut album? Jared likes to think it's a smart marketing strategy, he says that people will buy it because it's got a pretty girl on the cover! (giggles) I don't know about that, but if it works, then it is most definitely smart. Jared produces all of the songs, and without him, none of this would be possible. He will definitely be featuring more on our debut album, and also on the covers - he's a talented man, and a great singer.
Who are you currently listening to? I am in love with Misery Loves Company! I think they are really, really great. Very talented, and very attractive! (smiles) Luke Striker is cute, I really like his most recent song. Ryan Ross Hernandez is also amazing, also very attractive! So is James Urie! They all make my heart melt.
What is your response to those who say Hey Lolita's music is too pretentious or boring? If you actually listen to our music, a lot of it is feel-good, it's different, and in my opinion, it's not pretentious or boring at all, it makes me smile. I guess I have nothing to say. But I do of course take offense when people are so cruel. I don't think me and Jared will please these people until we start singing generic dance songs!
Finally, what can we expect from Hey Lolita this year? I guess you'll have to wait and see. (winks) |
