Hardly unknown, but, if you haven't already, you need to listen to The Dear Hunter or, more specifically, The Color Spectrum. |

High five for mentioning Tegan & Sara. I'm kinda poor at the moment, so my mother got a box of 10 CD-Rs for her Christmas. Each one I spent hours deciding on what to put on it, & one of those was Tegan & Sara. As far as hip-hop goes, can I recommend checking out El-P's 2007 classic I'll Sleep When You're Dead? I'd also really recommend Labor Days by Aesop Rock to check out. I'll link you to the song that sold me on it.

While I do love me some Aesop Rock, I actually like None Shall Pass more than Labor Days. Something in 'Keep Off the Lawn' keeps me coming back. |

For a hip-hop, I would recommend Astronautalis, a rapper I just found out about very recently. I have yet to check out his earlier work, but his latest album This Is Our Science, is one of my favorite hip-hop albums this year.

If you are still looking for progmetal bands:
Tool (I don't like them too much, but they're very good musicians)
Flying Colors (the new project of Dream Theater's ex-drummer Mike Portnoy plus other great musicians)
Symphony X (I really like them...It's Progressive + Power Metal)
Rush (one of the best progressive rock bands)
Nevermore (great band...They're Extreme Progressive)
Devin Townsend Project (the album GHOST)
Opeth (very good band)
other: Shadow Gallery, Evergrey, Orphaned Land, Liquid Tension Experiment,
I think Iron Maiden latest albums are very Prog Metal...I really love "A Matter Of Life And Death" and the last one "The Final Frontier"...I really love their entire discography xD |
