OOC: Apologies for how long part 2 has taken lolLauren: Hi, welcome back to the chat with CrushCrushCrush! on Kerrang! TV. Hope you all enjoyed the advert breaks. Aaron what's your favouri-Aaron: GO COMPARE.....GO COMPAAAAAARE....WHEN YOU INSURE YOU MUST ENSURE TO GO COMPAAAARE!Lauren: (Laughs) Weirdo...I love that advert myself with the little weasel guy selling car insurance and stuff.Aaron: You know it's a meerkat right? Like Timon in the Lion King? I know it has on a smoking jacket and carries a laptop...but believe me...it's the same kind of creature.Lauren: (shrugs) Anyway, on with the show. No more talking about adverts. Where were we Aaron? Oh yeah, we were done talking about the album title, and we were gonna discuss like the sound and stuff. How would you, personally, Mr Simpson, describe the awesome and beautiful debut album from CrushCrushCrush!?Aaron: Epic.Lauren: What?Aaron: Epic.Lauren: (Laughs) That's it?Aaron: Pretty much yeah....oh you want more? I see what this is. We all be doing each other favours up in this hizouse right? Did I pull that hip chat off there yeah? I think so.Lauren: (Smiling) You really did not Aaron. Album. Speak. I command you to talk about the album, idiot child! (laughs).Aaron: Charmer! But yeah, I will discuss it right now. Through my own choice, not because some short-ass with cool hair decided that she was the boss of me! (laughs). BUT yeah, the album. I like it. I think it is really cool, and I genuinely love the songs and the way we have brought things together. We each, Lauren and I, went in there with very differing opinions on what we wanted to hear coming out of the other end. I personally like more bluesy rock styles, whereas Lauren loves pop-punk stuff. So it was really nice to bounce the ideas off of each other and allow it to flow naturally. Like, I'd play something, and she'd be like "sure, yeah. That sounds alright, but play it a little faster." We went on like that for a few weeks. However, the fact that we got the whole thing packaged up in just two months really is testament to how awesome it was to work together. Everything just felt natural, and real, and the music just came together without us having to put like too much effort into compromising. A lot of bands will throw out something that sounds like they've laboured at it to keep everyone happy. But we didn't. We just sat around and listened to each other and talked through everything and if it was something we disagreed on then we had a reasoned debate until we worked it out. The net result is that we ended up with a CD that I think sounds pretty well flowing and natural, and most of all, very real. It sounds like what it is, a CD which was born from the minds of two people bringing their collective experience together.Lauren: I pity you dude, because you've just peaked. I reckon that's the cleverest thing you'll ever say, and you're what, 23? 23 yeah. Shame man. Haha! But no, what Aaron says is spot on really. We have both got quite a big knowledge of the music industry, separately, but our kinds of experiences are very different. Aaron has the booksmarts when it comes to music, because we went and got a Master's Degree and stuff after school, so when you hear something on the CD that sounds technically great, that comes from his knowledge of music. For me personally, it was great to have that by my side. In Big Light Show, no offence to those guys, we were just a bunch of friends strumming our guitars and playing what we thought sounded "cool". Now that was alright, but like I said, it was nice to sit opposite someone who could say to me, "No, that has to progress like this," because when he would play it back, he was right more often than not. It makes the whole CD sound a lot tighter to me, and I genuinely love the sound we created through that. On the other hand though, I have the experience of having done all this before. There's some things that you just can't learn in a classroom, and I picked up a lot of tips on the road, be it from bands like Suburban Sunrise, or The Verdict Is Vengeance, or just from standing up on a stage and judging the reaction you get when you a certain thing, and how the fans like it.Aaron: I won't lie. That was a priceless tool for us to have in the writing process. Lauren would tell me something, and logically, I mean theoretically, my head is thinking, "No...that's not right." Then she'd sing something in this weird time signature, and it would blow my mind. Honestly. All in all, the balance was awesome.Lauren: Jeez...you're full of sensible thoughts tonight Aaron...what's gotten into you? Haha. Anyway, favourite song on the record?Aaron: Hmmmm. Tough one. I think I'm going to say "The Lies, The Skies". How about you?Lauren: Weeeeellll, personally, I love "Hate Me, Love Me, You're Not Above Me".Aaron: Haha I knew it. She goes straight for the pop-punkiest song on there! Knew it Lauren...Knnnnneeeeeewwwwww iiiiiitttt! Lauren: Hehe...did you also know STFU?Aaron laughsLauren: Well I think that just about covers this chat from us...any closing thoughts Aaronius of Simpsonia?Aaron: I always wondered, why are you called LollyLauz on Twitter? Is it because of the lollipop or because of lol..and you are lolly?Lauren: Because of lollipops (smiles).Aaron: Thought so. It's because you love sucking things, right? Your favourite pastime (laughs).Lauren: Aaron! Nooo! It's because I'm sweet and small and stuff.Aaron: And your head is too big for your body?Lauren: (laughs) I owe you a severe punch later Simpson! Haha. Anyway Kerrang! viewers, we are CrushCrushCrush! Look out for album on March 11th, and thanks so much for watching!Aaron: Adios and all that jazzy jazz! |
