When news filtered through to us yesterday evening that a pop-star had been arrested and held by the Metropolitan Police, we all wondered who it was, with guesses ranging everywhere from Glamazon to Stephanie Fierce. But did anyone expect this to actually be the reality?
A statement released by the Met has confirmed that police arrested 19-year old folk-artist Katie Coyle at her London hotel early on Sunday morning and have had her detained ever since.
The star is charged with multile counts of a severe breach of the peace and public disorder, after police received hundreds of complaints about the antics of Katie Coyle at her latest live show. At Total Annihilation 5 on Friday night, the youngster told the crowd that it had been her original intention to kill herself on that very stage that night, and that only getting back together with long-term girlfriend Andrea Mason had stopped her from doing it.
In the aftermath of the event, the police and Ofcom received a high volume of complaints both from people who were in attendance at the show, and those watching on TV at home.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "We can confirm that a 19-year old pop artist going by the name of Katie Coyle was arrested and detained by London police forces on Sunday morning at a hotel in Mayfair. The singer was charged with a string of counts of breach of the peace and upsetting the peace and public disorder.
It is for her own safety, as well as the severity of her charges, that the singer will be held in remand until such times as her trial is brought to the court."
Coyle has had her fair share of controversial moments over the past 18 months, but this latest incident marks her first trouble with the law. Will she get off lightly, or will a judge see this as a chance to show the celebs of today just how to behave?
