LATE NIGHT WITH JAKE WILSON – ALICIA LENA SPECIAL EDITION



INTRODUCTION
Jake: Woooooooo!! Look who’s back on your TV screens … me, me, me! Yes, there have been many rumours that Late Night would be returning and I think this definitely serves as indisputable evidence, I mean we’re here so you can’t really argue with that. But sadly this isn’t a new season but instead a special edition of the show only for you guys tonight. We’re working on a 3rd season of the show for the summer so you can all look forward to that of course but for now it’s just our special extended edition of the show with an artist that I’m extremely fond of, my friendship with her shouldn’t make you guys think that I’m being biased in any way, because she’s just a very lovely person *laughs*

However, being a friend of Ms. Alicia Lena, I have seen the dark side of the RnB princess, for example, did you know that she once attacked a child that asked for her autograph? … no? … Oh, well did you know that she once refused to give up her seat on a bus to an elderly woman? … you didn’t know that either? … Wow, did you know that I once found her lying unconscious on her kitchen floor after mixing alcohol and drugs? … *audience laughs* … What?, all of this is true … she once got arrested for indecent exposure and shot one of the cops who arrested her … *audience continues to laugh* … Why are you guys laughing? You should be taking this seriously, it’s true … Okay so none of that actually happened, it’d be pretty awesome if it did though, right? … The truth is that she’s actually just as sweet as everybody seems to think she is.

So what’s been going on in the music industry since we were last here, well Electro music is a monster that can’t seem to be stopped right now … thank you very much for that Cinzia, your forgiven due to the fact that you are ridiculously hot, like it’s not natural, I’m quite certain that she was actually created by Nasa, but apparently after a lot of research I still have insufficient evidence to prove my theory. Katie Coyle and Andrea Mason both got pregnant, aren’t those just the worst lesbians ever? Eilidh Greene won Big Brother and the adorable young girl has made many older gentlemen just want to look after her, so I’m taking this opportunity to say this, ‘Oscar if you hurt her you should be worried, I’m sure Erich is a very dangerous man with lots of ‘connections’.
On the music front, we have had albums from Nadia Berry, Ryan Ross Hernandez, Hannah Beth, Riot! In The Boulevard and James Urie, all of which shows that real music does still exist despite what Suzie and Sophie may make you think.

So it’s about time that we get on with the show now, what do you think? … *audience cheers* … Yes, I thought so too. OPENING PERFORMANCE

Alicia walks out to the center stage where she greets Jake, she hugs him and waves at the audience before making her way across towards the large piano located to the left of the stage at the performance area, the audience continue to cheer as she sits down on the stool, she brings the microphone slightly closer to her and starts to play a soft introduction, before she addresses the audience in her soft laid-back accent, “How’s everybody tonight? Are you good?” the audience cheer as she smiles, “I’m glad to hear that.” Finally as the crowd’s cheers die down enough, she begins the introduction to her latest single, “This is called ‘Drop The Needle And Pray!’” the audience cheer once more as she begins singing;

INTERVIEW

Welcome back to the show Alicia, how are things going?
Alicia: Hi Jake, thanks for welcoming me back here, I had a lot of fun last time I was here. Things are going pretty great right now, I definitely can’t complain *laughs*

Well, you were here back in August, so it’s not been too long ago, what’s changed over those past few months?
Alicia: Quite a lot actually, I signed a new record deal with Tric-Jam Records which is wonderful for me, I finished up a great tour and I got to relax for a short while which is always great. I dealt with some personal things towards the end of last year and now I’m starting to get back into the swing of things.

So the future definitely looks promising?
Alicia: Yes! Of course. I’ve had a great reaction to my latest single. It’s done very well in the charts which is always nice to see, there’s a lot of things being planned for the next few months so it’s gonna be busy which is great, I’m not the best person to be sitting around doing nothing or waiting for something to happen so it’s great to know that I’m gonna be pretty busy for a while, I’m probably more excited about the next few months than I have been for a long time.

And exactly is it that will keep you so busy?
Alicia: It’s mainly the new album and everything surrounding that. With my last album ‘Waking Up’, I decided that I didn’t want to go overboard with the promoting for it, instead preferring to tour in support of it and let things go naturally for it but I realized that I quite missed the TV performances and the interviews and all of that other promotional stuff that comes from it, you know? But this time I’ve got a couple of things lined up, I’ve already been featured on the cover of Rolling Stone a month ago and that was great fun to get to talk about the new work and everything that’s been going on, so yeah, this time it’s gonna be a little more busy for me but it’s something I really love to do.

The new album, we’ve heard small amounts of information about it, but nothing in depth, no real details have been confirmed, any chance of giving your most handsome buddy some exclusive information? *grins*
Alicia: Well, I’m not sure how anyone could resist that smile. Alright, since it’s you Jake. I can confirm that the album will be titled, ‘Reign Over Me’ and we’re in the later stages of recording, it’s about four weeks away from being completed, but I think that’s all you’re getting from me for today.

Aww and no release date for us?
Alicia: No, we haven’t got a release date set at the moments. If I had to guess then I’d say maybe sometime in late April or the beginning of May, but I’m not too sure about that one yet.

Oh well that’s a little disappointing Alicia, but I think the more pressing issue is a question that I’m sure everybody wants to ask you … Who do you hate in the music industry?
Alicia: Haha, Oh wow!

Come on, there must be somebody, Suzie?
Alicia: No! Jake what are you trying to do to me.

Well, Sophia then? Any of the GirlSpice ladies?, I’ve interviewed them, they’re lovely but you can’t really expect to be that attractive without annoying people, right?
Alicia: Oh my god no. I’ve been listening to them way before I even got signed, Nadia’s a gem, it’s impossible not to like them.

Well this is even more difficult than I thought it would be, one day we’ll unleash your dark side *laughs* … So the lead single from your upcoming album charted well, how did you feel about the success of the single?
Alicia: It was amazing, it’s always a nice thing to see happen with music that you’ve worked hard on creating and I’m sure some people were a little unsure about it, like all new music it can take a time for people to take to it and fully embrace it but it seems to have taken off pretty quickly and it certainly makes me feel positive ahead of the new album. It’s a song that I feel very closely connected to so it’s been great for me.

And the themes of the single are primarily one of hope, is that something you’re gonna push forward with more on your new album?
Alicia: Yes, I think music can have a great effect on people and I think that music is extremely powerful, I’ve worked hard on putting a positive spin on my music and making it more uplifting rather than depressing, I think that’s a large part of my own views and beliefs that come across in my music and I’m certainly more inclined to write songs with a positive feel to it.

What has inspired the album’s theme’s the most?
Alicia: I think a lot of old-fashioned music has influenced this album more than either of my first two albums. There’s a lot of soul that I think comes across in the music, Gospel music has probably been the heaviest influence on this album, that powerful redemption sound is something I’ve looked to try to replicate on a couple of the songs from the album and I think that the way that the world is right now has had a very direct effect on the album, it’s very forward looking and I think the best way to describe the album would be that ‘it’s a positive record for hard times’ you know? A lot of people are finding it difficult right to find something to be hopeful about, there’s people that are struggling to provide for their families and a lot of people are living on a very tight rope financially that’s making it more and more difficult to find hope and so I would say that although it’s not addressed confrontationally and obvious if you listen closely you’ll see what I’m trying to make my songs do, which in the most simplest of terms is just to give a little hope and positivity through the music.

Do you really think that modern music can have that effect on people these days?
Alicia: Yes, I honestly believe that it can. It may be naïve but in my opinion I think that a song, the right song can make you feel something deep down that moves you, or that makes you believe that things can get better once more if only for three or four minutes. I believe music is still one of the most powerful tools.

Okay, a question that has been asked more often recently, perhaps due to the fact that you turned 25 years old in January, can you ever see yourself getting married and having a family?
Alicia: Yeah, I noticed that question gets asked a lot more these days. I honestly don’t know, it’s a difficult question for me to answer. I don’t date, I like my independence, I don’t want to seem anti-social but during my free time I usually prefer to be alone, but yeah I guess at 25 years old now I’ll probably start to be more open to dating and sharing my life with someone. I’m not actively looking to get married or have kids or any of that stuff though, I feel blessed to be able to do what I do and for right now and maybe at least the next few years that will be my sole focus.

But if the right guy came along, then it’s definitely something you wouldn’t rule out?
Alicia: *laughs* Of course not, I’m only human, sometimes we need company sometimes we don’t.

Alicia makes her way back over to the performance area as the audience applaud again, most of them standing to their feet for Alicia’s final performance of the evening. She sits down and takes a drink from a bottle of water placed next to the piano, she takes a breath before addressing the crowd again, “I just want to say a quick thank you to Jake for having me on this show, it’s been great fun … and I wanna say thank you to this audience too, it’s really overwhelming to hear people chanting your name even now it still amazes me, so thank you.” She smiles and begins the intro, “This is a song from my upcoming album, it’s an exclusive for you guys as it’s the next single, so I hope that you all enjoy it, this is called, ‘Place A Wish In Your Heart’” She bows her head slightly as the lights dim and she begins singing;
