Album update from Katie



Hey gang! It seems like we've gotten so close to the big day without me even realising it. Seriously, I was at home this morning, and I was feeding Lucas, letting my mind wander, and my eyes drifted over the calendar (interestingly, I always spell that word wrong. Every time. No joke.) and I noticed just how close we are to the end of March. It really made my stomach jolt quite a bit. We basically have just two weeks today until the album goes on general release. How did that sneak up on me? I guess the whole becoming a mummy just made me lose count of the days!

I am seriously excited though. Two weeks today, you guys will be able to hear the best music that I have ever made (in my own opinion). There are a full 15 tracks on this album...plus the bonus disc of course...which I am still keeping a secret for now ;), but it is a really exciting thing we've done there, and I had the chance to sit and listen to it all back today. It just makes me feel so...accomplished? Is that the right word? Yeah, I think it is. Ok, ok, I'll spill a little bit of the details. The bonus CD has a few other stars duetting with me on it, and the fact that they were all willing, and who they are, still blows me away. I think you are all in for a treat, and I can't thank those guys enough. I was like a little girl when some of them came in. Still getting starstruck! haha!

What can I tell you about the album as a whole though? I think the best word, in my own opinion, to describe it would be "growth." I don't mean like a tumour or anything. I mean it signifies a really important part of my life. As much as RCAOLS was all about my pent up issues, and trying to cry out for a shoulder to cry on...essentially "boo hoo, look at everything that is bad in my life," this album is about me letting go of all that. It sounds like Katie taking a big deep breath of fresh air and letting all those problems just drain away. It's not a period of my life that I can ever truly forget, and I'm not sure I want to. It's important to remember the events that make you who you are, but this album is about a completely new phase. It sounds much fresher and happier, and the themes are newer...brighter...and less downtrodden. So yeah, growth, change, and embracing new horizons is the best way to describe this album. It is far more mature, tighter and advanced in terms of musical skill. More diverse and adventurous as well.

With regards the music; you can still expect to hear the normal guitar led tracks that I have brought out so far in my life, but you can also expect to hear far more. The guitar tracks are far more advanced in terms of what I am actually playing. I can only credit that to the people I have worked with an admired over the last year. For example, having Eric[Quillington] in the studio with me last year made me want to be better at guitar, and I have listened to and watched a lot of Ryan Ross Hernandez to try to emulate some of the skill that he has. So, if any sort of country influenced parts have sneaked their way in there, then you'll all know who to blame haha. As well as that, I actually played an electric guitar in a studio for the frst time ever. God knows what came over me....dating a guy, and now abandoning all of my acoustic heritage haha. You will also hear me playing a hell of a lot of piano (especially on the bonus disc). Everyone who follows my blog will know how I have fallen in love with the piano over the last year, and I definitely utilise it a lot more these days. Such a beautiful instrument. What a beautiful affair my piano and I have!

So that's really all I can say for now I suppose. The album is totally finished and good to go. As far as I am aware, it is all pressed and printed and boxed and ready to ship too...we just have to wait for that all important day. Oh yeah..and for a treat, the track by track (two tracks per day), will be starting from this Wednesday on my official website. Get ready! :D Right now I'm off to start making lists..I leave for tour in 9 days :O
