NAMES + NAMES = NAME!

‘Me and Lilly decided to start this blog, that we’ll be updating things about the album till its date of release. First I want to say to you that we finally decided the name of the album, and believe me it was a hard choice. Bittersweet, something in between the sweet and the salty, this is the way the album is, melodically and lyrically.

First we was calling it ‘Synthesis’ dues to its mix of styles and unique poetry, it refers to a whole life working in the band, specially Lilly and I, we have been friends since High school back on our days in Brazil, and it’s been ten years now, time has passed so fast and in this album we searched in our memories all kinds of situations we passed to get where we stand today.

Then we wanted to call it ‘hardcore’ or ‘ear orgasm’ but this is stupid. We were afraid that people would not like to listen us again, so we were thinking about a impacting name for the album, so at least people would pay some attention to it. Can you imagine a cover for ‘Ear Orgasm’? EW

In a certain point producing and writing for this album, me and Lilly were discussing about how this album sounds to us, so cruel and so soft sometimes, so strong and so weak, it’s a mix of sensations, that’s when Lilly looked at me and told ‘It’s Bittersweet’ and that was it, the perfect name for it.

Now that it is almost done, I feel so proud of this work, so proud that after ten years I’m still fighting for this dream. There are real songs on this album. Real deep meaning songs. Starting here I want to thank Buzz & Hype, mISTER_b, DJ Cloud and our longtime partner Danja, for sharing their ideas and for adding their flavors to these songs.

Very soon we’ll be ready to see you all again, we just hope you’ll still miss us.’

Katie: Love the name, and the reasoning behind it too. Sometimes the best names come from pure spontaneity like this, and they have so much truth and honesty behind them :) You girls always make music with such deep meaning that I can't wait to get my hands on this. It's a shame Julia isn't with you anymore, but I know you girls will still do a fantastic job on your own x

Engagement with Electronic Music

‘Magie talked with you guys last night about the album’s name and everything. Well I think it’s my time to say hello for you and to express my first sensations over this new era which is about to start next April 15th, with the worldwide release of our first single. I’m very happy with the format these new songs have taken, this is the best album we ever did, even better than ‘The Sun Will Rise’, I never thought we could rescue the aggressive we once had when we started out this band.

I remember when we were recording our debut album, and the way we felt about it when it was done, it’s the same feeling I’m having right now. I know it’s been ten years now, we changed, we’re completely different people now, but that sensation of releasing something very exciting is back again.

If I could erase what we have done till now, this would be a fantastic debut for us, maybe it is our debut, once we’re not a triple challenge like we were used to be. We just didn’t change the name of the band, but we’re a completely different band right now, Magie and I always had a strong connection, not only because we share the same philosophies, but because we understand how important the electronic music is for us. This album is a massive homage to electronic genres in general, it shows our love for this genre, and how engaged we are to make this movement grow in the music industry like it never did before.

We first heard about E-Records, while we were still touring around Europe and after that time we hadn’t stopped of trying to find a way to be connected to them in a certain way, that’s when we knew they were selling shares of the company to get enough money so they could make it bigger than it was, I was the first one to show interest in investing on the label, Magie was so into it either, so we decided to sponsor the label but instead of that we become shareholders. It's a big mark for us, something we’ll be attached to the rest of our lives or at least while we’ll still have strength to keep going.

Everything is walking in the way we dreamed and wished it should be. I’m feeling this is the best moment ElectroDeath ever had in ten years.’

With love Lilly

‘But soon you’ll see
Everything written is for annihilation’

This week I spend listening to the first promotional single of the new album which will be released next April 15th. The track ‘Holy Annihilation’ talks about people using religion for personal purposes, and by this way leading hundreds of thousands of people to fight and sometimes kill in name of a God or something they use to call sacred.

You all know, me and Lilly are very attached to spiritual things, but we are smart people, we don’t believe that a God or a Saint will enjoy seeing their devotees killing in their names, so this has to be made for human hands, humans use religion cultures to proclaim wars between nations and by doing that hundreds of thousands of people die.

We’re not trying to stop all wars, we’re not pretentious enough to do that, and I really don’t believe this world will ever be in a completely state of peace someday, but we really want the fans to think and analyses how much religion affects their life and more, how much it puts them to make things that would affect others or even things that they’re not enjoying to make.

It’s a strong and polemic subject, we know that this song will cause some talking, especially because religion evolves too much money and power and control too. But we really don’t care about what the most conservator person will think about it, this time we’re pushing boundaries, we’re going back to themes that we were used to write and to discuss about, with this new album we want to give the fans songs that will be stuck on their minds, obviously very danceable and even fun songs, but songs with deep meanings and serious subjects. Now the name of the album makes even more sense!

Let me tell you a little bit about this song in particular. ‘Holy Annihilation’ is a dub step song with influences of house and industrial electronic beats, it’s hardcore guys, it was produced by mISTER_b and reminds our third album ‘Wrong’, but It’s a lot more dub step then we ever used before, really is a song that will serve to dance clubs! I’m not sure if Radio will be the perfect place for it, we’re deciding if we’re going to release a double side single, but still ‘Holy Annihilation’ will bring you a general aspect of how this album will sound.

I’m sure you all will be very impressed over this song, mISTER_b is a fantastic DJ, he is such a megalomaniac when he’s working with bass and drums, he does some very intense and extremely loud things, I’m so proud that he worked with us, and that somehow we helped him to get the attention he needed to start his career and believe me that he’s gonna be producing some of the amazing singers in this industry really soon, watch!

This is it guys, if you pay attention to the title of this post… it’s two lines of the song…

Length: 3:50
Genre: Electropop, R&B, House
Recorded: January 2012 L.A. Music Studios

Song Description

It starts with an electric guitar riff and Magie’s strong voice, singing the first line of the song. It continues growing in the second line where an electronic drum sequence is added to the sound, this sequence sounds a little bit organic and tribal, giving the song a certain R&B groove. Almost in the third line of the song a very familiar electronic melody is added to the sound either, this one is a house beat which takes off that R&B feel the song had, growing to a more electronic feel.
In general the song is a mid-tempo ballad, with a tribal drum plus some electronic effects, but it’s not a fast song and Magie sings the verses of it with a shaking voice, almost like it was a tired thing to be done. At the first chorus of the song, Magie’s voice and Lilly’s voice is changed electronically making sound almost like another melody of the song itself. The chorus consists of a one phrase being repeated till the song goes back to the second verse.
The second verse of the song is sung by Lilly and it’s not different from the first one melodically, the beats are still the same despite it is louder and maybe a little bit faster, Lilly sings in the same way Magie was singing the song so far, with a shaking an strong voice, that sacrifice sensation from their voices is still there.
The song enters in its hook moment, where it slows down completely coming back to the melody break from when it started. This hook introduces the last verse of the song which is sung by the girls together, now we can hear another electric guitar riff added to the original riff, this makes the song more danceable, and it culminates to the last chorus of it.
The last chorus starts with the song slowed down into its first melody structure again, it goes growing, adding every instrument and beat the song has been showed up until now, as the girls sing the line of the chorus, when all melodies are together mixed with the girls voices, the song breaks down again to just its drum sequence, where the girls kept singing its lines to end the song in an echo effect.

Magie

‘This song is a very selfish one. It basically is about the loving yourself after a break up. It’s me and all my past boyfriends, because I was the best thing on their lives ever, I don’t believe that any of them had find someone as special as me, and I really think that all women has to feel this way too, we’re good enough to be down by a man, I don’t get it, I feel like there’s no way a man can put you down, you’re the one who should be in the control of the situation.
I know that’s hard to be the strongest, it’s easier just to point, that’s the perspective of this song, it’s the girls who was left by her lover and she just realized that he’s with another girl and she is so ugly and so stupid, you’re a hundred time better than her, but somehow he’s in love with her and you need to feel strong enough to say that they deserve each other.
It’s selfish I know, but we all need to feel this way sometimes.’

Together

Do you remember me when you are touching her?
I bet you still miss my soft skin and my big ass I assure
I know you’ll never be able to forget my sex no more
And you will never have someone like me anymore

I might sound selfish, but it’s my self esteem
Telling me that I was the sexiest girl you’ve ever been with
You didn’t gave me what I need, and now you miss me
And baby this is just starting ’cause you’ll never have something like you did with me

Sorry that you lost, that you lost, that you lost me
Sorry that you lost me
Sorry that you lost, that you lost, that you lost me
Sorry that you lost me

Do you remember how you were used to kiss my body?
And how we used to talk about things that were so bawdy?
So many times you told to me that I was so unique
But you were never man enough to satisfy me

I might sound selfish, but it’s my self esteem
Telling me that I was the sexiest girl you’ve even been with
You didn’t gave me what I need, and now you miss me
And baby this is just starting ’cause you’ll never have something like you did with me

Sorry that you lost, that you lost, that you lost me
Sorry that you lost me
Sorry that you lost, that you lost, that you lost me
Sorry that you lost me

Baby you’ll never forget me and this will be your sin
You’ll fuck with her thinking about me, you’ll call her name calling me
Baby you’ll never forget me and this will be your sin
And I’ll be so over you
You’re such a fool

Sorry that you lost, that you lost, that you lost me
Sorry that you lost me
Sorry that you lost, that you lost, that you lost me
Sorry that you lost me
Sorry that you lost, that you lost, that you lost me
Sorry that you lost me
Sorry that you lost, that you lost, that you lost me

Dubstep and why we love it

The breaking bass sequence plus a strong percussion and drum, forms a hardcore danceable sound which we use to call dubstep. I have to say that sometime sit can really be annoying and too much on a song, but when you use it in the right dosage, you make your song grows to a new level which will take people to madness and happiness at the same time.

It is all about sensation and feelings, it’s like an explosion of emotions on your ears, making your brain melts and your heart beats faster and faster, you just cannot resist but dance, this is the magic of dubstep, it takes over all your body, it’s impossible for you to stand stopped.

You can write about anything with dubstep. The hardcore melody allows you talk about things a pop song usually don’t, like politics and social aspects of our culture that are not completely acceptable for a massive audience. I’m so glad that we could work with such great dubstep producers like mISTER_b and the always loved Buzz&Hype (sad to know they’re on a hiatus).

Despite all the good vibration and the craziest emotion sensation it makes you to feel, dubstep cannot be alone, it has to be followed by dance pop or house beats, or at least a synth pop element, because it cannot be intense all the time, it has to have that moment where people would stop to get ready for another hardcore moment.

Almost all songs in this album has dubstep, mixed with other rhythms, but it is there, the bass the drums, the percussion and the hardcore sensation, that’s the point we wanted to arrive, this album is all about sensations and how music can act as a motivation on your life, for you to make a decision.

Enough talking, stay tuned because this Sunday the ‘BITTERSWEET’ era is about to start!

XOXO Magie ;)
