Kayla Rivers is 20 years old and was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on January 14, 1992. She has one older brother and one younger sister, her parents both worked away often and so the majority of her childhood and teenage years were spent with her grandparents, when she was just 12 years old her parents divorced which later had an effect on her teenage years. Kayla always had ambitions of making it big in the world of music and even as a child she often enjoyed performing in front of her family, she was fascinated by musicals and would often entertain family memebers by singing songs from musicals, and at the age of 16 she taught herself how to play guitar, it was during this time when she started to become more interested in rock music. In an attempt at following her dreams, she moved to California on her 19th birthday, she bought a cheap apartment and spent all of her money on showcasing and recording her music. Kayla however failed to impress major labels during her time in LA and she feared that perhaps a career in the music industry perhaps wasn’t destined for her, the following months after her move to Los Angeles, Kayla took a job as a waitress at a local bar called ‘The Midnight Surprise’ in the first couple of months of 2011, this job lasted 3 months after Kayla decided that she had enough of the sleazy nature of the locals and she decided to attempt to push her music career forward.
Labels that she auditioned for still wouldn’t entertain the young singer-songwriter but Kayla saved enough money to record a single and she self-released her song, ‘Here I Am’ which gained some unexpected airplay within Los Angeles and became a popular song on College Radio and it was at this point where things appeared to finally start going Kayla’s way as she was given the opportunity to support a young singer-songwriter called Aaron Marks on his UK tour and it was at this time when she was spotted by representatives of a major record label, days after the tour had finished she signed a one album deal with Chaos Records and she begun working on her first major release, but personal issue’s got in the way of the music once more and Kayla decided to spend time back home in Philadelphia with her family, but now she is ready to finally make her mark on the music industry.
