Comics, books, novellas and art-books.

Reading a Japanese comic (manga) called Monster. It's pretty good. Gonna buy a Clash of Kings when I get the chance in a month or so (the library has a huge wait-list).

Currently reading A Dance With Dragons, about half way done with it. I've just finished the first four books in ASoIaF.

Next up, while I wait for 50 years for Martin to finish the sixth book this is what my schedule looks like...

The Dark Tower Series - 7 books
4th Re-Read of Harry Potter Series - 7 books

and then possibly The Wheel of Time Series - 13-14 books.

Cormac McCarthy - The Road.

It's deliberate lack of the correct punctuation is pissing me off.

I saw the movie, and liked it a lot. But I imagine it would be rather boring in book form.

Why would it lack correct punctuation?

I have no clue why to be honest, but he doesn't use commas, nor does he ever use quotation marks. Odd.

Yes, I concur. I've tried to read it about four times, got ten pages in or so and thought "FUCKING PUNCTUATE YOU FUCKING DICK."

Well that's put me off.

I've started re-reading Rebus: The Early Years which is a collection of the 3 first Detective John Rebus books by Ian Rankin. So I'm on Hide & Seek just now.

the second world war - Anthony Beevor... wrote fantastic accounts of Dunkirk, Stalingrad and the spanish civil war, so am digging into his opus on WWII and allready loving his focus on the Sino-japanesse conflict alongside the struggle in Europe...

That's a fantastic anthology. I read it for the first time when I went to Download 2006 hahaha. I remember going back to the campsite to read on the last night when Guns n Roses were coming on & the tent The Prodigy in was totally full. My copy is a bit worse for wear now with the glue along the spine mostly gone. But yeah, great...wait. Shit no. The one I was thinking of was by John Keegan. It's the Spanish Civil War by Beevor I have. Truely excellent.

Just finished reading John Julius Norwich's 'Byzantium: The Apogee'. Hunting down the other two books is proving a tad difficult

I'm like $7 over the limit with my library account which annoyed the hell out of me yesterday when I finished the first of the 3 books that consist of the 'Essex County' trilogy, and I could just tell that the entirety of it might be one of the most essential comics since 'Maus'. The difference being that 'Maus' dealed with situations in times of great duress whereas County moreso deals in situations in times of mundane existence. Every character introduced as a backstory that tugs at your heart and it all feels so...human. Jeff Lemire might be the essential comic writer of the past decade.

He does, but I like Lemire's cross genre appeal. He does Essex, then an Invisible Man remake, then goes on to write Animal Man and Frankenstein plus one of the best indie comics ever from what I'm told (Sweet Tooth).

In all honesty, that is one of the few films I've seen where the book's ending (depending on which edition you read so it's not really a spoiler) speaks less volume.
