TISHA JACKSON: Reveal, One Year LaterToday, June 28, 2012 marks the one year anniversary of the release Tisha Jackson’s hit album Reveal. Today, one year ago Tisha set sail with the release of Reveal. The most shocking part is that Tisha is still promoting the album that she released one year ago. In today’s music world, usually one year after an album’s release the artist is already at work on another album if they haven’t released one already.
Case and point:
(Rihanna’s “Loud”, released in 2010 followed by “Talk That Talk”, released exactly one year later)
(Stephanie Fierce’s “Life’s Good” released atop of 2012, followed directly by “Love Is Lust”, to be released in shortcoming weeks.)
With this being stated, the question(s) that arises to the mind is, “Is it still normal for artist to promote the same project a year(s) later? “Are artist still fortunate enough to have their music carry on the charts successfully for year(s) without continuingly releasing music to retain relevancy?”, “Do artist not milk enough from one project, and do they jump to fast onto another one before realizing they have something great?
In today’s music world, artist have released back to back albums so frequently, it makes you reminisce of the days when Whitney Houston released “The Bodyguard Soundtrack” and it was successful enough for her to go years without releasing any material, or when Janet Jackson released the “janet.” Album, and it carried on for years without seeing release of new material, or when Michael Jackson released “Thriller” and the record carried on for years because he (they all mentioned) milked their projects for what is was worth.
However, digressing back to the main topic, “Tisha Jackson: Reveal, One Year Later”. Tisha Jackson has been in the past one of those artist who released back to back albums so frequently, I mean for goodness sakes, she has released six albums in six years. But did she milk her projects for what it was worth? One can say she really has with, “Reveal”. It has shocked many in the music world that Tisha is still promoting a record that was released a year ago and has not moved onto the next one. Six million copies later with Reveal, (Tisha’s best-selling album to date), Tisha is set to release not a new album, but continue on her “Reveal Era” with its re-release, “Reveal, Revealing, Revealed” to be released on July 2nd, 2012. So we are going to take you on the roller-coaster ride “Reveal” has been and take you all the way to the origin of Reveal.
One Year Ago
It was Tuesday, June 28, 2011. Tisha Jackson had released her sixth studio album Reveal. The album was anticipating much buzz due to two Top 3 singles, “That’s How You Want It?” Then budding rappers Monte Carlos & Jay-C and “History” Featuring (then banded) legendary pop group, GirlSpice and who many will call Tisha’s “rival”, Stephanie Fierce. Both singles proved to be a success, both peaking at No.2 on the “Top 20 Digital Songs Chart”. When released, the album recieved critical acclaim, with many calling it "A defining moment in not only contempary R&B, but R&B period". Many also praised Tisha writing skills, the production of the album, and Tisha's impressive vocal performances on the album.Reveal was building up to be something big.
However, things seemed a little off when Tisha missed/cancelled her entire promotional tour for the album that were already planned. “Reveal” debuted in the Top 10 of the album charts selling 173,000 copies in it’s opening week. Many thought Tisha was upset with the numbers, However that wasn’t the case. Tisha was proud of the numbers being that many artist have difficulty selling 50,000 units, however, she was upset with her label for not giving her funding to promote the project. Tisha revealed that she had been funding the project herself for promotion and threatened to sue her label. Tisha and her label were now at war! Many people came to her side in her time of dismay while many branded her a liar.
However, months later it was proven that Tisha was being truthful and that money wasn’t only stolen from her but from Junction Records President, Daniel as well. Money had been taking out from funds for the labels Rochester and swindled into another account. Two A&R reps for the company were eventually charged with Grand Larceny when the FBI became involved with the situation. Tisha and Daniel then counter sued the reps in court to receive their money back. Months later Tisha and Daniel won their suits and the two former A&R reps for Junction Records were then trialed, and sentenced to 10 years maximum in a L.A Prison.
After the trouble of that was put behind her, Reveal began to pick up steam. By now it was Fall of 2011, and Reveal had sold more than 3 million copies worldwide. Singles were released from the album including, “Intimacy” and “Love on Repeat”. They both went on to peak in the Top 10 of the “Top 20 Digital Songs Chart”. Tisha had put her career troubles behind her and was rising to the top again. When Reveal was first released and all the drama went down between Tisha and her label and the money stolen from her, Tisha wanted to end the project and put it behind her. But being the fearless person she is she decided to continue production of the album and didn’t let her woes discourage her or her fans. She decided to milk Reveal for everything it was worth and she did. Once the Fall of 2011, Reveal was averaging a 120,000 to 150,000 copies a week, making her Top 10 Debut peak into the Top 5 on the “Heat Top 20 Albums Chart”.
With Reveal becoming an overnight success, Tisha decided to set out on a World Tour. On Friday, November 18th, 2011, Tisha kicked off her “Revealing Tisha Jackson: The Past, The Present, & The Future of History” World Tour. The tour openers included comedian, Jake Wilson, pop sensation, Chloe, R&B Heart-throb, Dominic Brown, and Mandy Williams. The tour ended on April 24th, 2012. By the end of the tour it grossed over 110,000,000 million dollars worldwide in ticket sales.
In 2012 Tisha stayed atop of the charts when her album reached its peak position at No.2 on the “Heat Top 20 Album Chart” selling 224,000 copies that week. By now Reveal had sold a total of 5 million copies worldwide. This was the same album that Tisha almost abandoned a year ago. Tisha continued the success of the album, releasing its fifth single, “Curtain Call”; the single peaked at No.7 on “Top 20 Digital Songs Chart”. The video for the single received critical acclaim for Tisha Jackson’s and her rumored Bo, Dominic Brown’s performance.
Fast Forward to today, June 28th, 2012
One year later after the release of Reveal Tisha is still milking it for all it’s worth. Reveal has officially sold over six million copies worldwide. The message of this story is tonight give up on something so quickly. If Tisha had given up on Reveal so quickly she would have never realized how successful a project she created from scratch could’ve been. Now, Tisha has another hit on her hands with “Hallelujah” Featuring the new fire hot rapper, Shantel Stiletto. The major point of this story is that it is nice to see artist continuing the success of the same projects and not moving onto the next so quickly. It should put a smile on Tisha’s face when to know that some artist have put out two or three albums since last year, but there is something so special about Reveal, that has her and her fans sticking with it a year later and continuing THE REVEAL ERA. Here is to hoping the continuation of Reveal will be one filled with fun and success!
Roll on Monday, July 2nd, 2012, when Reveal, Revealing, Revealed is available everywhere! Edited by moderator 29 June 2012 05:36:03(UTC)
