Hi, we're Jupiter Society, an electro band from Perth, Western Australia.

Band Members
Andy Knowles: Vocals, synths
Erik Vorgensen: Guitar, synths, vocals
Diego Vasquez: Bass
Simon Chew: Drums

Sounds Like: Klaxons, Hadouken!, Does It Offend You, Yeah?, Art vs Science
Other Influences: Everything Everything, Biffy Clyro, Kasabian, At The Drive In, The Mars Volta, Circa Survive

We've attached a link to the first song we've recorded (ooc: actually just the lyrics, below)

If anyone arty wants to drop us a band logo, we'd love to have a look at it. We're just not arty at all...not at all.

Hymen Hill

Come out and see the background (x4)

Come out from your hole under hymen hill
Where fingers and daggers take you for the kill
Ulcered capital, so desirable
Take your medicine, is it for your skin?
I know you do but you don't really love him
So predictable, inexplicable

Come out and see the background (x4)

A bell rings somewhere in your head
I'm sure it's only the escape of air
Unmistakeable, goose-bumped, rapeable
Dance like it's an anthem you listen to
Tranced from the pot, the pills and the booze
So damn likeable, Is that so fanciful?

Horse with the blinkers on
Why do I want a saddle on you?
A line with no sinker on
Why do I want my bait hooked to you?
I can't find a reason why
The picture in my head is still you tonight
Maybe I still believe
Maybe I'm just being deceived

Come out and see the background (x2)

Hey folks, thought we could probably do with providing some more information on ourselves, also we've recorded two new songs. They've just been recorded in our mate's bedroom but he's pretty handy with production for a part-time in you bedroom sort of job.

We're a bunch of mates aged 19 (Simon) to 22 (Erik). Diego and I are both 20.
Diego was born in Brazil but has lived in Perth since he was six. Erik came out here as a Swedish back packer four years ago and never left.

Simon and I played in a shitty band called A Poison Storm for a couple of years in high school. We were basically a terrible At The Drive In ripoff. That gave me an appreciation for writing lyrics in that sort of style of imagery and metaphors, which I'm still working at.

We're looking to start playing some gigs locally as we increase our song base. Currently we have just the three we've recorded and one or two others that are almost ready to be played live.

So that's us. Check out the songs below.

Peace

Andy

Sophia

Back out east again, out of the bullpen
Next on deck is a reason to hate you
I can always think up a reason to hate you
And now I'm hurting but I don't show it
Coz I just say there's a reason to hate you
I can always think up a reason to hate you

And it's nothing but a kiss that never made it to my lips
It's the words I never said that fester as a cyst
In my head, it's my reason to hate you
In my head that's a reason to hate you

So Oedipus is swinging his dick now
I can feel stale air so thick now
And I'm flirting with every bitch now
Who won't deserve to scratch your itch now

I come up big again, my face is so zen
Safe in the assumption I hate you
I can always think up a reason to hate you
Now I'm a bumblebee in line at the factory
Just fine tuning the reason to hate you
I can always think up a reason to hate you

And it's nothing but a kiss that never made it to my lips
It's the words I never said that fester as a cyst
In my head, it's my reason to hate you
In my head that's a reason to hate you

So Oedipus is swinging his dick now
I can feel stale air so thick now
And I'm flirting with every bitch now
Who won't deserve to scratch your itch now

Can that be my reason
My reason
My reason
My reason to hate you?

Sleeper Hold

Hey what's the time?
I've been waking up all morning
And I've been feeding every line
To keep me feeling boring
And I know just what I need
When the magic fingers find me
Then get up and get a feed
Coz there's no need to wine and dine me

I got myself in a sleeper hold
And I've been told
I'm lazing my life away
Like Jeremy, like Jeremy

Why did life have to be so hard
Why must I fail at every attempt at masonry?

I got myself in a sleeper hold
And I've been told
I'm lazing my life away
Like Jeremy, like Jeremy

Hey guys, quick update.

We're set to make our onstage debut, with a supporting slot this Friday night at The Indi Bar in Scarborough, Western Australia.

It's a half hour set, and with some hard work over the last few days we've finished off enough songs to fill the half hour, with a couple of covers thrown in anyway.

We're pretty super fucking excited, so if you happen to be in Perth this Friday and wanna see a show then come on down. If you miss it, we'll have a mate filming it and we'll put each song on youtube.

Furthermore, we've changed the name of "Justifications Almost Help Me Sleep At Night" to "Sophia" coz it was sounding a bit too emo, even for my lyrics. Also added some more influences, so you can get a better idea of where we're coming from muscially.

Love you all, adios

- Andy

A source close to the ever-secretive Lola Becks:

Jupiter Society has popped up a number of times on the playlists whilst the band are on their way to gigs. Bubo and Odie love grooving to it. I'm starting to like it myself

We make our onstage debut tomorrow night at The Indi Bar in Scarborough. Getting excited, been rehearsing hard this week so working on new songs have ground to a halt for now.

The Indi Bar had a bit of an interview with me (Andy) and put it up on the website. Check it out.[/

This Friday night sees Jupiter Society hit the Indi Bar stage for the first time, so we caught up with lead singer Andy Knowles to find out a bit about them.

Hi Andy, looking forward to the show?
Oh hell yeah. It's our first gig so absolutely looking forward to getting out of the rehearsal space and in front of some people.

You're first show? How long have you guys been playing together?
We started jamming together and playing some covers about four months ago. Started putting some songs together a few weeks later. Erik's been writing songs on his laptop for five or six years though, so it's just a matter of fiddling with them a bit, learning them and adding some lyrics, so we write songs pretty quick at the moment.

Where did the name Jupiter Society come from?
It's just the coming together of some ideas we were talking about it terms of a band name. The aim is to convey ambition and a sense of inclusiveness. We heard the 'Mars' in The Mars Volta's band name is meant to convey ambition, and we like the idea of a planet to convey that. Jupiter's the biggest planet in the solar system so therefore the most ambitious I guess. Does that make sense? And then we like the idea of bands that use the band name as a surname, but 'The Jupiters' sounded like a shitty cartoon set in the future or something. So we went with 'society' because it suggests togetherness, but also inclusivity for other people I guess.

Cool. So what can we expect from the show?
Umm, don't know seeing it's our first show. Haha, the music is stuff to get you jumping around or dancing or just loosing your head. Think Does It Offend You, Yeah?, Klaxons, that sort of thing. But, I dunno, a demon may come out of me when I get onstage, who know?

Excellent, let's hope so anyway.
Haha, yeah, that'll be something for the punters to see. Maybe we could do a live exorcism. Do we have a license for that?

We can get one
Haha, sweet. I would if I were you. Cover your bases.

Thanks very much for your time and good luck.
Thanks for the chance to speak man.

Whoa, amazing night last night. The half hour set went way too fast. Had a killet time and partied like rockstars after the show (why not ay?). We managed to squeeze seven songs into the set, though one is really just an intro. A couple of covers of songs that we just find to be a lot of fun to play.

Setlist - The Indi Bar, Scarborough WA 27/07/2012

Quarter Life Crisis
Sophia
Misery Business (Paramore Cover)
Sleeper Hold
Ares (Bloc Party Cover)
Hymen Hill
