RIOT! IN THE BOULEVARD; ALL SYSTEMS GO!‘The young rock heroes are set for the busiest five months of their career to date and the Riot! revolution shows no signs of slowing down, with a new release set for August and work on album number #3 to start in the coming weeks it appears that they plan to take over the rock world yet again!’By Culture UncutThey may only still be just 19 years of age and have already seemingly taken over the rock universe with their blend of energetic guitars and heartfelt lyrics but Riot! In The Boulevard are definitely not slowing down, if anything they haven’t even got started yet. It may seem rather bizarre that the band have accomplished so much in such a short space of time, two studio albums earning the band combined sales of nine million worldwide, both of which have gone four times platinum and their most recent, ‘Cradle To The Grave’ continues to sell in large numbers despite being on the charts since February, in their career so far they have also released six singles, all of which have found a place within a top three position on the charts, when you factor in other issues like touring and merchandising your already talking of a band that are estimated to be one of the wealthiest acts currently in the music industry, they aren’t even 20 years of age yet. So with this success you’d be forgiven in thinking that they’d be happy to just sit around by a pool for the vast majority of their time or spend their time being, to quote the title of a recent blog entry by flame-haired frontwoman Amy Meyer, “Nameless celebrities on TMZ and Twitter”.
But in fact it’s the opposite, it’s evident that they have a rather insane work ethic that could put some fellow ‘Musicians’ to shame and a source close to the band claims that it’s indeed the success that they’ve had and their ages that are now the primary driving force behind their mentality, “They’re fully aware of what they’ve achieved and when you’ve had the success that they’ve had, it’s obvious that there’s gonna be negative judgments, when their debut album became a hit all they seemed to hear from critics was “That’s all well and good, but can you follow it up?” which they answered emphatically with an even better record than their first and another hit, the question they now face is, “Where do you go next?” and that’s something they’re working on answering.”
A close friend of the band states that it’s mostly Amy’s mentality that keeps pushing things further, “The guys are all pretty laid back, when it came time to record their second album they sort of felt like they should take a few months out to recuperate but Amy was determined to keep things going, they’ve barely stopped since the release of their debut album and that’s mostly attributed to Amy’s determination”, so although the band work incredibly well together it would appear that Ms. Meyer is the driving force behind them, so the question is, where do they go next??
Well, they’re currently in a recording studio in New York City to put the finished touches on the production of their first ever live release, a CD/DVD combination of their headlining performance at this years ‘Field Trip Festival’ and it’s set for a release sometime this month, they’re also performing at the North Hill Records showcase tomorrow evening having recently extended their recording contracts with the Hernandez/Berry record label before it’s time for them to begin work on their third studio album, Mid-August is when they hope to officially begin the recording sessions and they’re currently still looking for a studio in which to record the album having recorded the previous two at Capitol Studios it would appear that they want somewhere a little less familiar.
They’re also looking for another producer for the record, Riot! have always had a major hand in the production of their work but have always preferred to have someone else in the studio with them as a sounding board, they’re reportedly still looking for a producer for the record but do have one name confirmed as a producer on their record and its name that may be considered somewhat of a surprise for fans of the band.
That’s right, they have the recent industry newcomer Isaac Lovelock (a.k.a. Thank You) confirmed to be part of the album’s production, the 19 year old has already made a name for himself featuring on work by Nadia Berry and Anna Villiot and so it’s perhaps not the biggest risk but this would be the first major production role for the young musician, but fans of Riot! need not fear as he’s reportedly somewhat of an Indie Rock aficionado, early rumors also suggest that he could feature on an upcoming track from the album, so don’t be too surprised if your Rock has a little hip-hop included within it. This is of course an interesting combination that perhaps shows that Riot! are looking to branch their style a little further but I think it’s safe to say that you can expect much of the same from Riot!, they’re very aware that what they do works and with little tweaks here and there you’re sure to not be disappointed.
They are of course still looking for an additional producer for the album and with the band and Isaac all being just nineteen years of age it would be safe to say that they’ll be looking for someone with a little more experience to help marshal these recording sessions and give structure to their time in the studio, it’s also likely that they would be looking at someone with a rock or at least a pop-rock background.
So there you have it, the latest news on what’s next for Riot! In The Boulevard.
