Was disappointed with the road race this morning. British tactics should have seen Cav pick up his first gold, but the other teams sat back and didn't push them, which left the gap too large in the end. Was a shame for Cav but plenty more cycling medals to come.

Just now I'm watching the British girls play Cameroon at football. Total domination and playing some good football.

Currently watching Fem. Basketball, USA vs. Croatia and it's a closer game than I'd like it to be, but we're still winning.

The archery surprised me. I expected South Korea to sweep it all again. And Italy winning was pretty surprising too.

The Olympics is weird, because all of a sudden people start pretending to be interested in sports they normally ignore entirely. I find it disconcerting in a way, because should a countryman win in any event, true fans of these sports are suddenly drowned out by a bunch of fickle laymen.

The analogy I have for this is musical of course. If someone tells me they love Pink Floyd and I say me too, and they say their favourite song is "The Wall", right there is the first clue that this isn't really what I would call a Pink Floyd fan. I mean, I'm not expecting them to say "Quicksilver" or "Pow R. Toc H." but at least get the name of the one song you've heard right.

So my general reaction to the Olympics is that I do not care for any sports, and I especially do not care for nationalism, so when you put the two together I choose to sit it out. I do kind of have a soft spot for watching the athletes file into the arena, but if I miss it, I don't really mind.

But can you really blame anyone for not being the biggest "Table Tennis" fan out there when this is literally the only time within a 4 year cycle it gets actual play-time. I'd enjoy watching Table Tennis, or hell even Swimming but finding it on television is either an exercise of giving a testicle for an extra channel or searching through a shitload of small clips online. Because seriously, besides Basketball and Soccer, these sports don't get much mainstream (and therefore television) exposure that would make it easy to watch. I think that should be the argument moreso than "Everyone suddenly likes Badminton!? Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. etc"

I like football.. always have. I don't like Olympic football, it always sucks. However I was impressed with UAE performance against Uruguay.

I also enjoy watching the swimming, it's always interesting because nobody runs away with the lead, it is always decided in the final length.
