So is pop & rap. All the genres we're listening to now will eventually be classical. Maybe, if rock strives, it won't ever be the same. |

I remember many years ago i had some friends, and when we came home in the middle of the night after drinking in a pub (very drunk ofcourse), we always played Serge Prokofiev's Montagues and Capulets from Romeo And Juliet always really loud. Was always fun. We just sat there in complete darkness in one of my friends room and listened to it. Magic. |

Classical is Classical. Not "classic". Back when classical music was made, they didn't call it classical music. They called it modern music. No, they just called it music. It was a part of the classical movement, which aimed to revive "classical" principles in architecture and art. That's why it's classical. People even looked to the Greeks in architecture, despite the fact Greek architecture is all about the aesthetically pleasing structural disaster. Modernism was a movement of the early-mid 20th century, which rejected classical values as too focussed on form and flourish. Architecturally Le Corbusier was basically a dickhead, but musically, a lot of things were advanced in ways that we now take for granted. Serialism, microtones, concrete, minimalism, atonalism, polyrhythms, polymetrics, abstract... Essentially, the rules got thrown out of the window and a bunch of self-indulgent crazy folks amused themselves and the educated critics, while boring middle-class folk went "Ugh, this is so sickening, it's not even music! Give me Mozart any day." Now that we're post-modern, there's rules but they're adaptable and broken when necessary. |
