Serenity Scott just arrived on the music scene only a few months ago, and she's already made her way into a variety of different tabloids. She's been receiving a lot of attention - whether it's for publicly arguing on Twitter with other celebrities, getting publicly dropped, being compared to pop princess Suzie Stockholm, or getting trashed at an awards show. Although she's still the new girl on the block, she's been involved in a lot of controversy lately. Other than drama, and onto the music, Serenity is definitely on the list of one of the leading new acts of 2012! Starting out as a local singer playing in pubs in her hometown Los Angeles to playing much larger venues, she took a long journey to get where she is today. The singer first saw her chance to break into the industry when she was offered a spot in 8 Mile Rock, an American punk band from Detroit. Serenity saw this as a great way to dive into the music biz, and she took the chance and ran with it. However, after only a short period of time, she parted from the band due to what she claims of 'creative differences'. Shortly after, she released her debut single 'Wonderland' to mostly positive reviews from critics, and has caught the attention of many different tabloids and musicians.Since the age of 12, she always dreamed of becoming a famous pop star one day, and many turned their heads away from her, not seeing the same exact vision that she had envisioned. The fact of the matter is, Serenity Scott is proving everyone who turned her down that she made it without them, and that she is ready to break more barriers.

When did you start to develop your passion for singing and why?

"I developed an interest in making music when I was of the age of twelve due to my poetic skills. Before I became interested in making my own music, my dream was to become a writer. When I was younger, I think it was when I was 10 years old, I became interested in poetry, and I would often write long poems from time to time. Soon after, I started singing the lines to the poems I wrote, and that influenced me a lot to become a singer. I would come home after school and write songs, or sometimes when I was in school, I would lyrics in a little notepad I carried during my lunch period."

Can you give a few names of people who have influenced you?

"Of coarse I can. I would say that Madonna has to be one of my biggest influences. I think she's a huge inspiration to many, especially women, and she's a great role model. Just think about it, Madonna started out in the early 80s making hit records, and it's 2012, and she's still in the studio producing hits. I think she definitely helped to break barriers for women in the industry. I hope I can follow her footsteps into becoming a worldwide inspiration and a role model to people. Also, I'd say that Marilyn Monroe is also one of my biggest influences. In fact, I think it's fair to say that Marilyn Monroe is my idol. Marilyn went through a lot, and she's a really big inspiration to people, and again, especially to women. Marilyn faced many obstacles, and from what I've heard, she always had a smile on her face and she made people feel good about themselves. Another artist who influences me is Miss Fierce... Stephanie Fierce. I love her music and just everything about her. She's a fashion icon, she writes her own lyrics, something that most artists don't do, she's an owner of a record label, and she's always creative. In a way, she kind of reminds me of myself, because when she first started broke into the industry, she got trashed. Stephanie was once in my position, and now in 2012, she's one of the most biggest and most powerful acts around. So I can't say that Stephanie isn't one of my influences."

Talking about being trashed, you've been getting a lot of 'thumbs down' from other voices in the industry. You've also been trashed by the blogger Cassie Bitch at the 'Fans Choice Awards'. How do you feel about all of that? Does any of it bother you in any way?

"In all honesty, yes, it does get a little painful to hear sometimes. Although it may not seem so, I remember being extremely nervous about attending the awards. Just thinking about the fact that I would be seen by millions of people made me feel like I wanted to puke or something (laughs). But I remember all my family and my friends were cheering me on, and my mother was telling all her friends how she was so happy and proud of me in what I'm doing and stuff, and she was telling all of her friends to watch the awards. Both my parents were so happy that they even invited all of my cousins and aunts and uncles over to their house to watch the awards. They were really excited for me. And unfortunately, while I was at the awards, Cassie basically trashed me there... on television. Every time she kept throwing obvious shots at me, I wanted to just run out of the arena and just runaway and cry in my pillow you know. It was really embarrassing to all my friends and my family who were watching that were cheering me on. It was definitely one of my worst experiences I've encountered, and only God knows how I had to the strength and courage to hold back those tears and to stay seated. That night when I went home after the awards show, I went straight to the hotel I had been staying the night before the awards, and I sat in my bed crying all day. I think that if anyone had experienced what I had experienced that night, they would have felt the same way. There's no two ways about it."

Can you ever forgive Cassie for doing that?

"If she ever apologises to me, then yes, of coarse I will. I'm not the one to hold grudges on anyone, no matter what. So as much as what Cassie said that night had hurt me and embarrassed my family and I, I'd definitely forgive her. Who exactly am I to hold a grudge on someone? No one's perfect, and we all do wrong things at some point during our lives. But in life, you have to learn from the mistakes you've made and grow from them. If you don't take the time to take the next step forward up the stairs, how can you ever get to the next floor? Again, it's all about learning from you're mistakes and growing, and if you don't do either of the two then it shows who you really are."

Many see your debut album 'Teenage Era' as a huge flop, seeing as it sold 126,000 copies in it's first week. What are your opinions on that? Do you think that it flopped?

"I feel very disappointed and sad seeing my work debut and sell so low, but I'm not angry about it. I can't be angry at the fact that people didn't buy my music. Not everyone will like my music, and I don't have a problem with that. I won't deny that when I heard how poorly the album debuted, I immediately thought about everyone who's been telling me that I'd fail, and when my ex-boyfriend James Urie said that my career will crash and burn, including getting dropped by my former record label 'North Hill'. But without a doubt, as long as I am alive, I will continue making music and pleasing my fans. Even if I don't have a very large fan base."

Would you or will you ever try to change your style in music to try to sell a little better?

"I don't think I could ever do that. If I ever decide to change the style of my music, my image, or anything, then it'll be because I want to do so. If people don't like my music or my style, then it's 'oh well', because I'm not going to change for anyone just to get number one single. A lot of musicians do that, and I'm not going to sit here and critisize any musician for doing that because everyone is different. Not everyone is the same, and I'm just going to be honest and say that I'm not like that. So will I ever change the style of my music to sell better? No, I will never do so."

In a few interviews you've had, you mentioned a few times that you would like to venture off into the fashion world someday. When do you plan on expanding your career in the fashion industry?

"I'd love to start my own clothing line one day. That's definitely on the list of things I must do before I die (laughs). I'd also love to have a perfume out by next year, so you could go ahead and add that to the list of things I must do before I die. But, I have something to say. This is an exclusive because Teen Vogue will be the first to hear this. I've been in the talks with MAC cosmetics to create my own lipstick, and it should be in stores sometime next year. Most likely in January or February, probably just a little time before the re-release of 'Teenage Era' will be released."

Since you've brought up the topic about you're re-release, can you share a few details about it? Is the re-release completed yet?

"I'm still in the studio recording here and there. I am a little busy at the moment, which is the main reason why the re-release might have to be pushed to March or April, but I do plan on starting the promotion campaigns by February next year. Also, I'm hoping that I could get the lead single off of the re-release in February. But however, I'm not saying that I won't be releasing anymore more singles until then. A few more singles off the original album will be released soon. I'm just trying to keep this era flowing for the fans. I don't want to ditch my album just because it made a disappointing debut on the charts."

Some people compare you to Suzie. What are your thoughts on the matter?

"I honestly don't think Suzie and I have any similarities actually. First of all, her music is way different from mine, and so is her image and everything else. So I don't think we share any similarities. I'm not trying to say that I have anything against her though. I like her music and I'm not trying to say that she's a horrible artist or anything. That's just the way I feel. But I won't get into anything else about her because we're friends."

One last question, can you interpret when you'll begin writing or recording for the next album? Do you have any ideas for the next one? Who would you want to work with in the future?

"I can't really answer because I have no clue when I'll start the recording process for the next album. With all the touring I've been doing lately, I don't think I'll start writing for the next album until probably next year summer maybe. I do write almost all the time though (laughs). If anything pops up in my head, I always write it down on something before I forget it! And yes, I had a few ideas, but I'm not going to focus on the second studio album right now. Right now my main focus is on my debut album and the upcoming re-release album of 'Teenage Era'. I have a lot of people I'd love to work with. I'd love to work with Anna Villiot or Katie Coyle one day. Also, I'd love to work with Vanity, I think she's an amazing artist! All of the artist I named are great as well too! And um.. It would be my pleasure to work with Stephanie Fierce as well. As I always say, Stephanie is one of my influences, and getting to know her was an absolute pleasure!"

Thank you for reading this interview!

Serenity: Awww, thank you Erich :) I'm glad you're not the type of person who tries to define someone's personality from what they tweet on Twitter. Thanks again! :)

erich:twitter?! good lord, girl.that is something to be a avoided at all costs. dont you know that every so called tweet is stored in a massive computer that robot overlords read?

karoliena: oh,here we go.

erich: then, those same robot overlords build smaller robot underlords.these robot underlords look and act just like you.the overlords load your tweets into the underlords, who in turn kill you, skin you,and wear your skin like a danskin. dont believe me? look at the shocking number of flat screen tv's. what happened to the old style of tv? makes you think, right? well you see, every plasma, lcd, whatever style of tv is prepackaged with a platoon of robots inside. the old style crt tube tv's fucked with the robot's guidance systems. the overlords, though near omnipotent, could never figure out how to craft shielding for the vulnerable guidance systems of the underlord army. thus, the explosion of both flat screen tvs,and twitter.

karoliena: isn crazy sad when it strikes so close to home?
