Blood of Wecz announce 'World Tour of New York' for November 2012Iconic band to hit the stage under the famous name for the first time since 2009.Scott RH has leaked a teaser for the 'World Tour of New York' tour poster to the press.Blood Of Wecz frontman Scott RH has looked to further increase the hype surrounding October's comeback from the iconic metal legends by leaking details to the press about his intention to take Blood of Wecz out for a series of concerts, which he claims they have cautiously entitled 'World Tour of New York 2012'. There had been speculation regarding whether an older and more mature Blood of Wecz would take to the touring circuit, with most predicting online that their return would be just some sort of semi-retirement, under which we would hear new music, but not get the chance to see the band live in concert.
However, never one to shirk away from the media spotlight, Scott RH called a media "online press conference" tonight, which he conducted via webcam from his New York home, only those few journalists who are in his inner circle (including us) handed the password to have a look at what he was going to say. What transpired was typically Scott RH. We were greeted by 5 full minutes of a still image (see above) on our screens in front of the webcam, before the charismatic singer and guitarist appeared on our screen to tell us what we all wanted to hear.
The picture we were shown, it appears, was a teaser for a tour poster that the band intends to release to the public at some point over the next few weeks, and will contain details of a "very limited number" of Blood of Wecz 2012 shows. The title of the tour, which Scott revealed midway through the conference, will be "Blood of Wecz: World Tour of New York 2012". Scott claimed that the tour will centre mainly around New York, and will include no more than 14 shows in total.
"As far as we were concerned, as a collective, it had to be this way or no way at all," Scott explained. "I myself have a wife and two very young daughters, and there is no chance that I am jetting off around the world for months, or even weeks on end. There's always the chance, as a father, that you might miss something important in their life when you go to work; if I go off for three months to Europe, then it's almost guaranteed that I miss Sophie's first step, or Bailey's first word. As much as I love my fans and my music, and my job, there is absolutely no way that I am going to leave my family behind and miss something important.
"Talley feels the same," he continued. "I mean, alright, the dude doesn't have any kids, but he's just gone and got engaged to Layla [Raine, Tric Jam boss]. He doesn't want to leave his new fiancee for months, they have things to plan and a future with each other to look forward to. Who wants to jeopardise that. I mean, I know that there will be people who don't understand that, but hey, I'm being honest. In fact, I'm going to, ironically, quote some very immature, but wise men, who once said; "Well I guess this is growing up." I'm sure when people have a think about why we are doing this, they'll see it is perfect for us to be able to promote the album, play some gigs, but also have the chance to stay in New York close to our families."
However, if the cryptic messages in his statement are deciphered, it could be the case that fans outside of New York, and even the US, get a brief and rare chance to lay their eyes on Blood Of Wecz. "I want to have the chance to show my girls dad's heritage, how he got to where he is today. But I also think this is a great way to show them where they come from." After the statement was leaked early, blogs were alight with the rumour that this meant Blood of Wecz are set to return to Scott's home country, Scotland, for the first time since 2007. Playing Edinburgh was often seen as the perfect way for any Blood of Wecz tour to finish. Could this be the same? Are fans of the band going to get to see them on home soil for the first time in half a decade.
Wherever the tour happens to stop though, one thing is certain, the small number of shows is only likely to increase the desire for people to get their hands on what will be golden tickets. Blood of Wecz' last venture onto a stage as a collective was when they played in the final of the Delta Tau Battle of The Bands 4 in early 2009, blasting away competition from Reckoner and Mind to lift the coveted trophy. Since then, Scott has played a single show, at 2011's Festive de Musica, but the band as whole have not played together in over 3 years. These new shows are sure to be highly anticipated, highly charged, and highly emotional, when they come around this November.
