LABEL: FREEDOM Life long friends, Nichole Shade and Castor Drake started Vile Hour in highschool and quickly gained a cult following in the underground music world of Detroit, Michigan. Nichole, age 21, and Castor, age 26, have both stated that even though their work is music, their passion is theatre. During their performances, they tend wear dramatic clothing to give a "theatre" feel to all their shows. They often have living statues and performance art as a part of their acts. Both members of the band tend to become very passionate in their songs. Many times by the end of the night, they're both so dripping with sweat, they're sliding off their drum or piano stools. This could also be because they make it a game between each other to see who can get the drunkest and still be able to play their instrument before the show is over. Nichole normally wins. Both members of the band were forced to attend Osborn Collegiate Academy of Mathematics, Science and Technology for high school by their parents. Nichole Shade has stated that although the school didn't cater well to her desire to be a performer, they were mostly surrounded by the "geeks and freaks" of Detroit, and always felt accepted by their peers. Many of Vile Hour's original fans are students from Osborn. Castor Drake's dramatic and ever quickening drumming methods compliment Nichole Shade's deep voice and tendency to bang on the piano rather than play it creates the sound that is Vile Hour. erich: i wouldnt care if they sing terrible autotuned covers of kenny rogers songs. any body that looks that cool gets a free pass to do whatever they want,and still be awesome.

10/2/12 Aloha, ya'll. Nichole Shade here with some NEWS, I GUESS. Sooooo.... We're working on our first full album now. It's going to be fun and great and stupid and stuff, you know? I remember coming to school every day with bruises, and making excuse for all of them, and trying to cover them up, but Castor always knew what was really going on. I like to think that the slow piano through out the song shows how beaten down somebody in an abusive relationship is, and that the rising urgency, especially during the bridge, shows the desperation the person has to keep the abuser in their life, even though they know they're no good for them. We tried to keep the song as innocent sounding as possible, but also show the depression and danger that is associated with staying in an abusive relationship."
Castor: "I was really proud of Nichole when she suggested that we write a song about this relationship, since I know it was a big part of her life that she still isn't completely over. Even though the song is about one certain relationship, I feel that the lyrics could reach out to anybody who is struggling with a relationship that is hurting them in some way, even somebody with a substance abuse problem. Nichole's voice, which is usually so deep and powerful, sounds like the voice of a small child who is desperately trying to win back the approval of her parents. Andrea: Really like this it's very different from most stuff I hear I like you two you're really great the meaning behind this song is also very great and I don't think it's really brought up enough I know it must've took a lot to write this and just put it out there like that for others to hear it so good job hope to see a lot more from y'all |
