Earlier this year, Serenity Scott's name had began to spread like wildfire. The one spark that led to the ignition of it all was when she got the opportunity to join the rock band 8 Mile Rock in May. Not only was it because of joining one of the breakthrough bands of 2012 she started to gain attention, but also because of the controversy that Serenity had been involved in during the coarse of the year. If you take a trip back in time, you'll note that Serenity has been involved in highly publicized controversy. From getting dropped from two labels on the same day, to battling with another high-profile celebrities on popular social networking sites, Serenity has experienced the rough ends of the industry; which is something most new artists hardly experience so early on in their careers. Now, Serenity already proved to the world that she knows how to speak up for herself and to speak her mind, but it's now time for her to prove to the world what else she is capable of doing in the music business. Her debut album "Teenage Era", which was released during the summer 2012 (August 21) was considered to be a huge flop, selling a mediocre first-week sales of 126,000. The album quickly fell out of the charts and only managed to sell just over 330,000 copies worldwide. With Serenity's newest release, entitled "Marilyn Monroe", she's clearly reinventing herself and showing how versatile she can be. Can this single revive/replenish Serenity's career in music?
Serenity made her way back to the studio in early September and began to write and record new material for an entirely new album. Initially, the plan Serenity had in mind was to release another album in later November or early December. Her mind was later changed to releasing an EP (extended play) instead of a full-length album. After meeting with executives and representatives with her label "Hot Eye Records", also known as "HER", she was advised to contact Johnny Johnson, one of music's rock legends, to produce for her new EP - possibly for her next album as well. After a long thought about it all, she finally contacted Johnny and arranged a meeting with him. He agreed to become the executive producer on the EP. There is still talks between the two as for whether or not he'll produce once again for her second studio album.

"Marilyn Monroe" is the lead single off of Serenity's debut EP (extended play) entitled "Taste of Perfection", that is set for an . It is a mid-tempo ballad that has elements of the electronic, pop, and soul genres, with a total length of 3 minutes and 35 seconds. The song utilizes/features drums, synthesizers, and an 80's influenced back beat, with orchestral instruments heard throughout the verses of the song as Serenity sings her way through. She introduces the song with a few catchy lines singing: "Masquera smudges stain the coasts of my eyes| I'm blinded by all those flashing lights| Different signals are displaying on my radar| I might just drown in my own pool of tears tonight". Then, the beat to the song really begins to kick in and she begins singing: "My heart is plagued with a burning flame| I reached my hand out and no you never came| No matter how many times I called out your name", three lines that gives the listener a so called 'eargasm' and leaves the listener with lines like that memorized, already hooking whoever is listening into the song. After those 3 lines, she lets it be known that she feels insecure about her mistakes and references Marilyn Monroe. She ends out that verse singing: "I'm marching off the edge but I'm not ready to fall| There's a difference between landing and to stall| I feel insecure about my flaws and all| Oh oh Marilyn won't you hear my call." Unlike Serenity's previous releases and her previous tracks, when she hits the chorus/hook of the song, she sings on a much higher note, showing a sign of improvement and growth as an artist. She starts out the chorus singing: "I wonder what Marilyn Monroe would say| How would she think all of this through", again, making a referencing Marilyn Monroe. Just as she has said before in various interviews, Marilyn is one of her influences - the same for people (mostly girls) around the globe. After she ends the chorus, she beings the second verse of the song, singing: "These tears are running wild just like the sea| A kiss goodbye to you and I and those happy dreams." After the end of the second verse, again she sings at a higher note than usual. After singing the chorus for the second time, she sings the same lines that was the introduction to the song, with the beat dropping as she sings it. As she begins to sing the chorus for the final time, the beat kicks back in and Serenity finishes off the song, leaving the listener is awe.

Music Video Trailer

Serenity shot the music video for "Marilyn Monroe" during the first week of October, and is scheduled to premiere on her official VEVO account on Monday (October 29th, 2012). The trailer begins with Serenity's name being shown, then the "MARILYN MONROE" text is shown on the screen, with a black background. When the instrumental of the song begins to play, in the trailer you can see Serenity in a maze, where there is hardly any light, looking as if she is lost and is trying to escape the dark dreary maze. Then, the words 'OCTOBER 29TH, 2012' appears on the screen, and finally, the 30 second trailer of the music video ends.

Serenity Scott emerged onto the music scene in late May, with the release of her debut single "Wonderland", which has become her highest charting single yet, peaking at number 5 on the 'Top 20 Digital Songs Chart'. She was first introduced to the world when she joined the band '8 Mile Rock', which unfortunately, has broken up. After only a little time, she abandoned the band and began to pursue her own solo career in music.
There is absolutely no doubt that with a single such as this one, it will only be a matter of time before we see pop singer-songwriter Serenity Scott begin to explode. Seeing that the controversy that she's been involved in is dying out, and the world is beginning to forget about it all, it was the perfect timing for Serenity to release a new single - to build up a new reputation, rather than only being known for having an exchange of words with others in the industry. It was definitely time for Serenity to release music to overshadow all of that. In music, there is only one main thing that the audience would expect of an artist, and that is growth. Not to trash or say that Serenity's previous material were bad, it is clearly obvious that as an artist she has grown and has made a significant improvement in singing, producing/mixing, and in songwriting. In her last album, we hardly heard her hit high notes as much as she has done with this single "Marilyn Monroe". Instead, we all heard basic pop songs that the world has heard many times before, which has led to many comparisons between her and other females in the industry. Now, Serenity deserves a huge round of applause for coming back with new material that's completely different than the songs that are charting and getting airplay. The lyrics and the meaning to the song were just incredible, unique, and again, different. Again, it shows Serenity's growth as an artist, and it also shows that Serenity can take on any genre, as she there are elements of 'soul' featured in this song. She teamed up with rock legend Johnny Johnson to produce something that was beyond incredible. Well done Serenity!
