Title: "Grandstanding & Bravado" (An Anthem for Top 20 Airplay)
Release: October 8th, 2012
Genre: Indie pop, pop rock, alternative rock
Length: 4:19
Label: North Hill Records
Producer(s): Ryan Ross Hernandez
Writer(s): Jason Andrews, Nathan Castle, Alex Manning

The lead single written by Nathan Castle, composed by Castle, Jason Andrews, and Alex Manning, produced by Ryan Ross Hernandez, "Grandstanding & Bravado" is mainly what the subtitle suggests, an anthem, just bursting at the seams to invade the airwaves. Castle writing style is comparable to that of young Ryan Ross Hernandez with his former band, PANIC. The 29 year old frontman is unafraid to speak uncensored of the industry and take its shots at pop culture. (Is the line "While a GirlSpice record served as background music / I didn't spend a nickel on this record / But I want my nickel back," really a cheap shot at one of his bosses, Nadia Berry, crafty saying that GirlSpice is to pop, what Nickelback is to rock?)

"The song is about the music industry, it's about pop culture as a whole," Castle begins, "But I think some these lyrics would relate to his current generation of people, who are very narcissist and apathetic to the world around them. I've seen a shift in people giving a fuck. People just don't give a fuck anymore. And the music industry has a part in that, and pop culture has a part in that."

our name is stars' are hyper modern in the lead single, flitting through the past and present, taking nothing seriously and taking everything they can, cramming so many allusions into that it's impossible to tell what is intentional and what is accidental. Are they suffering from Celebrity Metaphysical Syndrome already?

Musically, the song is a towering guitar anthem built on wedding-like organs, thundering drums, and singer Nathan Castle's high, pitch perfect vocals. The loosely layered vocal harmonies at its bridge create an almost carefree vibe to it, with Andrews' churning guitar work and Alex Manning doing everything else; from playing the opening weary-eyed organs, to the thumping, loud drum banging. Hernandez's production hand stays laidback, while not adding too many clear additions aside from the trio's work, a faint hand clap can be heard fading in and out at certain points throughout the song. It's hyper catchy feel makes you think whether the band purposely created a future hit single in a song that diss the radio and those hits played all day.

Produced by Ryan Ross Hernandez.

I'm selling hooks you can't deny
Their perfect for radio stations to play all day
I kinda hope they do, I need the cash
So I'll surgically remove my heart
And replace it with an ATM machine
Who am I kidding? I'll take credit too

I threw stones at your window again
Thinking I'd get some blood pumping
While a GirlSpice record served as background music
I didn't spend a nickel on this record
But I want my nickel back

Chase me down the street of a suburban neighborhood
Critics say I need to put more soul in it
Hey TMZ, won't you climb a tree for me?
Hey Pitchfork, sorry we're not hipster indie superstars

I'm half a drag of a single cigarette
The chemicals I carry go straight to your lungs
What a match, you are an addict and I'm a drug dealer

So play this song all day
Top 40 Radio DJ's, please shove it down people's throats
Your listeners don't want variety or honesty, they want the same old shit
All those imperfect songs, with those handsome boys and beautiful girls
Let's just keep singing and dancing all night
As if all in life is parties and boys

Pretty girl, you look like you belong somewhere in Los Angeles
Or are trying to be a model and you already swallow on your knees in New York, hey
Painted faces in the bathroom stalls of the club
They all look the same when you're drunk in the nightlife lights
I drank until I passed out when I was nineteen
Just so now I could hold my liquor 'round the A-list team

I'm half a drag of a single cigarette
The chemicals I carry go straight to your lungs
What a match, you are an addict and I'm a drug dealer

So play this song all day
Top 40 Radio DJ's, please shove it down people's throats
Your listeners don't want variety or honesty, they want the same old shit
All those imperfect songs, with those handsome boys and beautiful girls
Let's just keep singing and dancing all night
As if all in life is parties and boys

You carry no substance nor write your own songs
But you have a pretty face to sell it
So we'll package you to be perfect for the mainstream crowd
You carry no substance nor can you sing
But you have a pretty face to sell it
So we'll package you to be perfect for the mainstream crowd

Don't request your favorite song
(Don't request your favorite song)
Don't request your favorite song
(Don't request your favorite song)
We already know what song you want to hear
So we play six times every hour

So play this song all day
Top 40 Radio DJ's, please shove it down people's throats
Your listeners don't want variety or honesty, they want the same old shit
All those imperfect songs, with those handsome boys and beautiful girls
Let's just keep singing and dancing all night
As if all in life is parties and boys

Title: "Gamble on Fifth Avenue"
Release: October 29th, 2012
Genre: Indie pop, power pop, afrobeat
Length: 4:41
Label: North Hill Records
Producer(s): Ryan Ross Hernandez
Writer(s): Jason Andrews, Nathan Castle, Alex Manning

Track three brings an airy, yet complex tune in "Gamble on Fifth Avenue". With its rolling drum beat, that is extremely vivacious the whole way. It's as infectious of a single as they come,, with its foot-stomping beat and great energy. Nathan Castle's voice flows seamlessly along the African drum patterns as he growls aggressive lines, "Eight years, four bands, I'm not sure if I want live off nickels and dimes again / This is not for the indie crowd, much less to those in the Jersey Shore / Who wants to trade in their coats for another fucking reality show act?"

Despite the fact that the song has no set chorus, the infectiousness "oh woah's" that play in the background like gospel vocals over the pounding drumbeat, make this custom ready for stadium sing-alongs. Towards the end of the song, this hip-hop influenced trio softly breaks it down with some snazzy vocoder effects. The track doesn't stay in one tempo for long, taking the listener on an exhilarating ride.

"'Gamble on Fifth Avenue' was one of the earliest songs written for the album. This song is one of my favorites. Lyrically, it's a story that could be interpreted in different ways. They are very sincere, which I wanted, because even if this actually is the most ear-catching song with its sound, I didn't want to dumb down the lyrics," Castle explained as he tapped his foot while hearing the song over the studio loud speakers. "In a way it's giving the middle finger to anyone who says you can't. The album is called 'Dreaming of Nightmares in the City', because of this song. When I think of the album, I think of this song because paranoia makes rounds in this record a few times. I don't want to share in what mental state I wrote 'Gamble on Fifth Avenue' because it's really personal. But I'll say that I'm very proud of it."

Ryan's production is strong, while never overwhelming the listener. While Castle's exuberant vocals are what shine here, Alex and Jason, both who are multi-instrumentalist, whom create the many layers that surround and carry the frontman's voice. "Everything was there," producer Ryan Ross Hernandez began, "The three of them brought in all the ideas they had for what they wanted the song to sound-like, and for the most part I let them do their own thing. Your job as a producer when you're handling a song like this where everything is there, is not to fuck it up. Arrange it properly, add the small delays and whatnot, but when they're recording it, don't say a word."

"Gamble on Fifth Avenue"
Lyrics by Nathan Castle.
Composed by Jason Andrews, Nathan Castle, Alex Manning Jr.
Produced by Ryan Ross Hernandez.

I busted my head against the bedpost and got blood on my shirt
Went down to the palace and cashed in all the chips I carried
I was a millionaire in six hours and I blew it in three
What a catch, I still can't catch a break

I can't even fall asleep, the nightmares make me fear shutting my eyes
The last time I got a good night sleep
I dreamed that we all had a value lingering above our heads
I shouted when my value was in the negatives
Singing,
Oh woah, oh woah, oh woah oh oh
Oh woah, oh woah, oh woah oh oh

Get ready soldiers, we have been pinned as sellouts by everyone in our hometowns
I guess it was wrong of us to chase our dreams
They say I was happier back when I had nothing - save the bullshit for those who care
Three years ago I could not afford keeping a girl happy, now I have two

I'm not as sad as you may think I am, I now share a bed with an angel who wears Victoria
Who actually cares for how my day went and likes the music my band plays
No need to ask me why I changed, life in Arizona just became a bore

Well, some say I got lucky on a gamble I made
That I traded friends for acquaintances
Sometimes, I appear distant but don't mind me
Those times I just want to be left alone

But I still fear sleep, social media freaks me out
Here are your 140 characters to hate on us
People always find a reason to complain
Even when nothing is wrong, I said nothing is wrong

I'm a sellout for following my dreams
I get less calls from my sister since I moved to New York City
I traded the heat for snowy winter nights

Is our name stars because we want to be stars?
We want to shoot in the air, but the shine isn't necessary
Oh woah, oh woah, oh woah oh oh
Oh woah, oh woah, oh woah oh oh

Well, not even three minutes in and we lost our ways
Eight years, four bands, I'm not sure if I want live off nickels and dimes again
This is not for the indie crowd, much less to those in the Jersey Shore
Who wants to trade in their coats for another fucking reality show act?

I finally slept for the first time since I moved to the city
I had a dream about meeting a woman with light hair and blue eyes
When I looked into her eyes I felt like a shooting star that did shine
It was a beautiful dream, and every night since then I've slept peacefully
Call me a sellout now

Oh woah, oh woah, oh woah, oh oh
Oh woah, oh woah, oh woah, oh oh

You walked all over me for the very last time, now my smile is genuine and I can afford my own place
I threw my old phone off the thirteenth floor
Yeah, I got new friends now
Who don't criticize my way of living
Maybe my sister shouldn't bother calling
I'll see you and the family come Christmas time

Title: "Dragging an Anchor"
Release: October 15th, 2012
Genre: Indie pop, alternative rock, power pop
Length: 4:39
Label: North Hill Records
Producer(s): Ryan Ross Hernandez
Writer(s): Jason Andrews, Nathan Castle, Alex Manning

"Dragging an Anchor" is the fourth track on the album and after two bombastic, anthemic singles, our name is stars' show their more sensitive and interpersonal side. Nathan Castle's writing approach takes a shift as well, going for a first person narrative tale of growing up in the city. Each line is written with a fierce sincerity that remains as tender as it is frank – and delivered so. Castle's voice soars above the songs with the type of charismatic gusto missing from too many artists in the industry today.

"Without a doubt Dragging an Anchor is one of the more personal songs on the record, it's a real experience for me. I wrote it very early in the recording process and it has remained a favorite of mine," Castle begins, staring off to his side out of a window. "At twenty-nine years old, you're kind of getting into that headspace where you're not exactly young, but you're not in the middle of your life. You're an adult who has some regrets but they can't halt you. That's why the chorus is very uplifting, and optimistic, despite the hardships. While it might not be the loudest song on the album, it has a loud message to it." Probably the most ear-catching line is when Nate belts out 'I stand up and make love to all your friends / I am not the bitch you want me to be,' which the singer insist is not a joke, "It's not my way to throw in a quick punchline in there. It's a clear line of just standing up for yourself, even if someone else is trying to put you down or belittle you. Is it perfect? No, but in the moment you're kind of blinded."

Sonically, the drum samples stand proud honoring your ears with ocean-waves of reverb echoing over the city-night Sinatra piano and acoustic guitar backdrop. The sing-along gang vocals at the bridge of the song. All of this; set against a harmonizing accordion sound that was added during the production phase with Ryan Ross Hernandez at the helm. While it doesn't carry the same bravado as the songs before it, becoming the slowest song of the band thus far, it doesn't make it any less meaningful in their repertoire.

"Dragging An Anchor"
Lyrics by Nathan Castle.
Composed by Jason Andrews, Nathan Castle, Alex Manning Jr.
Produced by Ryan Ross Hernandez.

Another night I fall asleep to the sound of late-night talk shows
The cars outside are speeding and curving the sidewalks
Then you woke me up, with the sound of a wine bottle breaking
Your speech is slurred and your eyes are red
I can't tell if you're drunk or high
Well maybe it's both since your heart is pounding
Just like it did on your 24th birthday last year

You slipped off your dress and slipped into bed
Saying, "We are not, no, we are not a perfect fit"
Yes, I know
I'd have to be mad to say we are forever

Though I can't recall the last time I felt this lost
I've seen enough movies to know
That a guy like me has to struggle 'fore he gets the girl

If you lose yourself at sea
Or an anchor is pulling you down
Stop dragging your feet
Drag it on
And the sound of your sleep
Be the warmest memory you keep
Drag it on, drag it on, drag it on

You say all my friends are real bad kids
'Cause we meet at the end of the night
At a bar in Lower Manhattan
My friends and I, talk on and on
About all our girlfriends
'Cause we like the wifey, model type

Although it's a nice thought
To think I will change one day
Seeing all the times I've been cheated on
And it's funny to think
About how many times I've been letdown
I stand up and make love to all your friends
I am not the bitch you want me to be

If you lose yourself at sea
Or an anchor is pulling you down
Stop dragging your feet
Drag it on
And the sound of your sleep
Be the warmest memory you keep
Drag it on

Oh
My head is fucked
But the friction in my pants says otherwise
'Cause after all that's the only time I feel right
So just go and let your clothes slip off
Tie your tongue
Kiss my chest
Wrap your legs
Around me now
Let my fingers grace your thighs
No one's ever gonna stop me

'Cause now we are
We are a perfect fit
We are the best of kids
We are who we want to be
'Cause even on the day we part
When the time comes and we're in different states
So we go on
And find ourselves ba-ba-back home
Tonight

If you lose yourself at sea
Or an anchor is pulling you down
Stop dragging your feet
Drag it on
And the sound of your sleep
Be the warmest memory you keep
Drag it on

Ooh, ooh, ooh

Title: "A Night in New York City"
Release: January 7th, 2013
Genre: Indie pop, alternative rock, power pop
Length: 4:15
Label: North Hill Records
Producer(s): Ryan Ross Hernandez
Writer(s): Jason Andrews, Nathan Castle, Ryan Ross Hernandez, Alex Manning

"A Night in New York City" is the fifth track on the album, also making an appearance on the band's free EP from earlier in the year. The song kicks off with a pounding drum beat that leads into Nathan Castle's calm, wordy vocal delivery. They begin to slow and a minute into the song a chorus breaks forth with bouncy piano and bass line in the background that's thumping underneath the constant drum beat. Following a second verse and chorus with much of the same tempo, Castle serves as his own duet partner, harmonizing his own vocals on a bridge that carries the whole song one step further into theatrical pop anthem, not slowing down until the song fades.

"For a song to survive as long as this one has, you know it's good, it has staying power within the band," Nathan starts as he reminisces the inspiration behind the song. "I moved to New York City about a year ago, and I wrote this song soon after my first night out in this city. It came from a really, drunk place," the singer-songwriter took a pause to laugh, "I remember one night I got fucked up, that's the only way to put it. I was out with friends and I got wasted, so the next morning I kind of put that night into words. In the end though, most of the song came from my own head, instead of actual events."

"Are we gonna see a Misery Loves Company versus our name is stars? No," he replies with a grin asked about the punchline lyric, 'some hipster with a swooping haircut / because if Pitchfork loves misery, then your company is not needed here.' "That lyric came into my head when we were rerecording the song. That day I had read some article or interview on Pitchfork with MLC, and that line popped into my head. It's not a cheap shot."

"A Night in New York City"
Lyrics by Nathan Castle.

Let me breath a different air
I need a moment to see who I wear today
As your girlfriends are in the bathroom
Blowing the sunshine into their veins
I see you arrive in your favorite little black dress
The kind of sight seen on some runway show in Paris or NYC
But my side next to you is no longer there
It's been taken by some hipster with a swooping haircut
Because if Pitchfork loves misery, then your company is not needed here

He's been asking my girl who's she with
And I know she'll proudly state she's with me
I know it's hard to forget what happened months ago
When we fought before dinner and a wine glass broke
But as we drink and talk in small
That night creeps into your mind
You know that I'm trying to erase it now
So if you want to drink until you forget
Then feel like sharing a cab back home
I'll be your shoulder to cry on

For once in the lives we shared
We are the wild things
Young and rebellious
So give us the night to ignite some fireworks
And we'll shoot higher than the stars

For once in the lives we shared
We are the wild things
Young and rebellious
So give us the night to ignite some fireworks
And we'll shoot further than the stars

Well, no I am not trying to replace him
I am the kind of man who you sleep with once and never call back
Another case of thinking that I,
I just might be all that you want tonight
But your friends have found their high
And you signal them over to our table
So let's drink tonight
'Cause you know I will put you to bed when you pass out

For once in the lives we shared
We are the wild things
Young and rebellious
So give us the night to ignite some fireworks
And we'll shoot further than the stars

For once in the lives we shared
We are the wild things
Young and rebellious
So give us the night to ignite some fireworks
And we'll shoot further than the stars

Why do we always play this game?
You can't look at my face
Well if you wanna hurt me babe,
You just did again

The crowd is with me
And I don't even have a swooping haircut
(You can't look at my face)
Give me a chance to fight
(You've hurt me babe)
'Cause I can't compete with all your daddy's money
The sins have subside
(You wanna play this game)
But I still hear the devil cry
So can someone be my saving grace tonight
(Be my saving grace)

For once in the lives we shared
We are the wild things
Young and rebellious
So give us the night to ignite some fireworks
And we'll shoot further than the stars

For once in the lives we shared
We are the wild things
Young and rebellious
So give us the night to ignite some fireworks
And we'll shoot further than the stars

So if you want to drink until you forget my name
Then feel like sharing a cab back home
I'll be your shoulder to cry on

Amy: I'm loving these songs, they are so different lyrically from anything else that you hear in the industry, it's nice when someone new comes along and does things entirely their own way. Great stuff!

Title: "Don't Love Me If you Don't Wanna"
Release: January 7th, 2013
Genre: Indie pop, alternative rock, power pop
Length: 5:21
Label: North Hill Records
Producer(s): Ryan Ross Hernandez
Writer(s): Jason Andrews, Nathan Castle, Alex Manning Jr.

The sixth track on the band's much delayed debut LP, is "Don't Love Me If You Don't Wanna." Previously confirmed as a future single by their record label, the dynamic trio continue to give further insight to their sound with each going song into the record. The slow opening, led by Castle's quick spoken vocal delivery, doesn't last very long as not even twenty seconds into it, the thumping, constant drum rhythm comes in to create what is best described as a summery vibe. The clear pop sensibilities and underlying rock anthem atmosphere, make for a compelling song, dipped in nostalgia and catchy melodies, diverse harmonies and key changes.

"Don't Love Me If You Don't Wanna," lead singer Nathan Castle begins, placing his head back against the chair he sits in. "That song is about the constant competition people are in. In reality, life is a contest with yourself and other people. I think in the song it's presented in a carefree way, further proven by the somewhat suggestive chorus." The video shifts to show guitarist Jason Andrews seated on the couch in the lounge area of the studio. "We've had a demo of this song, with just the chorus and bridge, for almost two years before we actually started working on this album," he pauses for a moment, adjusting his glasses, just as quick the video jumps back to show Nate adjusting his seated position as he speaks again. "The verses I wrote not too long, around the time I met someone. I know some lines only one person can understand, but in general I think it's a song that is abstract. 'Burn down Studio 60, this is a takeover from North Hill', that line got some good laughs from people at North Hill Records," he chuckles, "I can't say anything bad about Studio 60, I'm sure they're all great people over there. It's just me making association to the competition that is everywhere you look in life, record labels included."

Split the bill on some fancy drinks pass the Brooklyn Bridge
My mouth moves fast unlike your past lovers
We build ourselves just to let ourselves down
We started a revolution of indie kids too witty for chaos

We'll set off fireworks on the roof of my house
I've lived three decades and the wheel still spinning
I kissed you on the first date because I move quick
I say burn down Studio 60, this is a takeover from North Hill

What have you done? My heart is beating
Pump, pump, pumping again
My eyes can't stop reading your body language
Your bones rattle under my touch
Let's see who comes first

No excuses, I just love to speak
The wheel keeps spinning
Run until I hit a wall
No one learns otherwise
Fall asleep on your breasts
Wake up to a kiss
Now love is 'round the bend
Now love is 'round the bend

No excuses, I just love to speak
Wake up to a kiss
Now love is 'round the bend
Don't love me if you don't wanna

Let's have a contest of who falls first

Title: "Welcome to West Coast Dreaming" (feat. Nadia Berry)
Release: January 7th, 2013
Genre: Indie pop, power pop
Length: 4:15
Label: North Hill Records
Producer(s): Nadia Berry, Ryan Ross Hernandez
Writer(s): Jason Andrews, Nadia Berry, Nathan Castle, Alex Manning Jr.

On likely one of the most anticipated songs on our name is stars. debut record, "Welcome to West Coast Dreaming", is the duet between the band and singer-songwriter/label boss Nadia Berry. The song starts with simmering keys, with lead singer Nathan Castle singing in his in-the-making, signature delivery style. By the pre-chorus, the melody increases with the addition of a booming drum pattern, with Nadia joining Nate on the chorus to create a massive hook, their voices effortlessly swaying between each. Behind the constantly thumping drums, heard in the background are a faint acoustic guitar strumming, when Nadia takes over sole vocal duties on the second verse, flirting with the devil that is LA, "I don't know what I've just got myself into / But I know this city's gonna be the death of me." The most pop-sounding song on the album has all the makings to make an impact on the radio, while charting pop territory, onis. almost create their own brand of it. The full-on duet collaboration with Nadia makes for a most memorable moment.

"The collaboration with Nadia Berry happened very late in the recording process. I believe we were two weeks away from our deadline to deliver the album to our record label, when we got this lofty idea to have a duet on the record," Castle mentioned as the song played quietly in the background, in the production room behind him. "That's not exactly something you think of, two weeks before having to hand in a record." We now see Alex Manning Jr., the band's multi-instrumentalist and main songwriter sitting by a piano, "We knew there wasn't a song we had already recorded that would work as a duet, so it was essentially building a new song from scratch. Obviously we're fortunate enough to be signed to a record label, owned by two legends in this industry, and through Ryan, very quickly we were able to have Nadia agree to come into the studio and do a song with us."

After a shot of the mixing board is shown, we fade back in to Nate speaking, "I kind of had an idea what I wanted the song to be like, but when Nadia came in, we probably spent less than two hours writing then then over the course of two or three we recorded it. I gained a great deal of respect for Nadia, as both a artist and just having a great character, for not only doing this on our debut, but she was there all those days from start to finish, you know. She didn't e-mail in her parts or anything, she was behind perfecting the song as much as all of us in that room were. It was special how dedicated she was to all aspects of the song"

Nathan
Nadia
Both

I woke up in Los Angeles today
The place where I now call home
I'm all fucked up on the place where my heart is
I can't remember where I was last night
But this is the hill everyone wants to live on
Ambition rides high in this city
It never fails to amaze me
How old do you have to be to not die young?
I already have the sunshine in my veins
If I remember what I did last night
I'll buy more drinks until I forget again

Paint me pictures of a wonderland
While you're looking pretty under your masquerade
Reel me in and never let me out of the underworld
Deep down, the fake are melting under the burning lights
The movie stars are crying themselves to sleep at night
I just wanna be a part of the land of the rich and unhappy
So I'm going in, but I don't know if I'm coming back out
I wanna get closer, and closer, and closer...

To a paradise that sits just above hell
Eyes shut tight, and I'm dreaming of driving off the edge
Oh, everyone here's fucked up and crazy, crazy
L.A., you're beautifully fucked up and crazy, crazy
We're making deals with the devil till darkness falls
Cause I wanna join the City of Angels tonight
Oh, everyone here's fucked up and crazy, crazy
L.A., you're beautifully fucked up and crazy, crazy

The good must have been locked outside
Turned God away, found myself new idols
We're running blind and flirting with the shadows
And I don't know what I've just got myself into
But I know this city's gonna be the death of me
Search for a soul, don't know if I'll be fine
Take mine, it was never worth all that much
So if I go, then Los Angeles, I'll give you a shout out
Write a love letter all over my gravestone
Cause I always wanted to go like one of the greats

Paint me pictures of a wonderland
While you're looking pretty under your masquerade
Reel me in and never let me out of the underworld
Deep down, the fake are melting under the burning lights
The movie stars are crying themselves to sleep at night
I just wanna be a part of the land of the rich and unhappy
So I'm going in, but I don't know if I'm coming back out
I wanna get closer, and closer, and closer...

We're making deals with the devil till darkness falls
Cause I wanna join the City of Angels tonight
Oh, everyone here's fucked up and crazy, crazy
L.A., you're beautifully fucked up and crazy, crazy

The valley is just a place I stutter to say
I'd rather spend my days in the middle of the beast that is Californ-i-a
I stay up too late drinking in the streets and talking small with strangers
For I do not care for love or friends
Nothing in life is free
Yet you wonder why there are earthquakes here?
The Holy Ghost forgot to care about this city
I woke up in Los Angeles today
And I've got a lot of A-list friends
But most are just black holes

Paint me pictures of a wonderland
While you're looking pretty under your masquerade
Reel me in and never let me out of the underworld

Deep down, the fake are melting under the burning lights
The movie stars are crying themselves to sleep at night

I just wanna be a part of the land of the rich and unhappy
So I'm going in, but I don't know if I'm coming back out

Title: "Bachelor for Crazy Bitches" (Interlude)
Release: January 7th, 2013
Genre: Indie pop, alternative rock, power pop
Length: 3:47
Label: North Hill Records
Producer(s): Ryan Ross Hernandez
Writer(s): Jason Andrews, Nathan Castle, Ryan Ross Hernandez, Alex Manning

At eight songs into the album, we get the interlude for the halfway mark of the album, "Bachelor for Crazy Bitches". It's the first slow piano ballad number, with a dramatic, passionate build-up for a song against monogamy relationships. It's a slow burner with Nathan Castle's vocals at the helm, his range serving as almost the melody for all the instruments behind him. The song picks up at just after the fifty second mark when the chorus comes in, the drums and multiple percussion piece is introduced, the drum beat staying constant from thereon out. It has many key changes throughout the track, the last minute or so makes for one of the best musical moments thus far, with a full on sing-along of repeated "nanana's".

"I don't think you should ever call a woman a bitch... unless she's a crazy bitch," Nathan chuckles as he leans back in his seat. "There's a difference between a normal lady, and a crazy one. It's written and sung in first-person, but sarcastically. It's as if I were someone who believed in this, which I don't. I think the line of "I was born to run / Less like Springsteen, more like Hilton", that really represents who I try to capture in this very selfish song. It's the best transition from a very self-deprecating in the face of fame with the first half of the record, putting an end to that and moving in a different direction."

Crazy bitches are a type of woman I know all too well
I always fall for the same damn type, fuck my luck

I was born to run
Less like Springsteen, more like Hilton
I'll be sleeping around
Until the day I die or get bored
So diamond ring girls, don't come looking for me
Unless you're looking for a paramour

I will never be a one-woman man
So don't put your trust on me
I'll just let you down, and move on
And I will never be the one
The one who wears a wedding ring
Don't feel sorry for me
A chain of events led me here

I am the captain of the Titanic
Who got on the first lifeboat and rode away
If the world ends tomorrow
God would do the same damn thing

I will never be a one-woman man
So don't put your trust on me
I'll just let you down, and move on
And I will never be the one
The one who wears a wedding ring
Don't feel sorry for me
A chain of events led me here

What a match
What a match
What a match
You are an addict and I'm a drug dealer

"You will never get in over your head
If the air ever gets too thick to breathe
Promise me, you'll leave"
Too late mama, I've drank the entire liquor cabin
And I don't call you anymore

I will never be a one-woman man
So don't put your trust on me
I'll just let you down, and move on
And I will never be the one
The one who wears a wedding ring
Don't feel sorry for me
A chain of events led me here

Title: "To All the Girls I've Slept With"
Release: January 7th, 2013
Genre: Indie pop, alternative rock, power pop
Length: 4:49
Label: North Hill Records
Producer(s): Ryan Ross Hernandez
Writer(s): Jason Andrews, Nathan Castle, Alex Manning Jr.

If you were listening to this record on a vinyl, this is the point where you flip the record over or grab the other side. "To All the Girls I've Slept With" is the follow-up to the intro of the album of a similar name, minus the 'yet' part, so one can only guess by the title this is a song for the girls that have slept with our name is stars' lead singer. At the forefront is Castle's singing, the only thing preventing it from being acapella is a soft guitar riff that plays behind him in the background. It's a guitar driven song, sounding almost like a rock song from the '90s. In the only string section on the album, the outro of the song seems far-fetched with a lovely piece of spacey violin sounding section.

"I think if someone has gotten this far into the record, you can tell that no matter how upbeat and catchy the music is, the lyrics have weight to them," Castle begins as he raises his head. "This song in particular is an exploration of the uncertainty that comes in a romantic relationship. I don't think it matters how long you've been with someone, you cannot read the other person's mind unless they say or express what they feel. It's about self-doubt and self-pity. If you want to use the term 'sad', this a sad one."

Jason is seen playing guitar while doing a voice over. "It's the most Queen-esque song we've ever done. It sounds very much like those kind of songs from twenty, thirty years ago." We now see Alex sitting in front of a piano as he speaks, "The idea for that little string outro at the end of the song originally came from Ryan who thought it was an element that missed on the album, so we had a three or four person string section come in and record that, we had it sitting around for at least a month. It was during the mixing process that Ryan called me back in to add some keys to go along with the strings and make that transition, adding it to this song which I think was great. The outro just rounds it all out perfectly."

I have too many racing thoughts in my mind
Sometimes I wonder if she knows
That at night when we sleep, I keep thinking of running away
She's counting it all with her fingers
One, two, three, four weeks that I've appeared distant

I'm no longer looking for help
For now I now all of the words to say
I think about the lies that I've lived
I mean I've never always been a fake
I wanna feel something real
I guess my life has become a collage of wishful thinking now
'Cause I just wonder of we'll be in a year
So I'll stay clutched to a pillow in bed

What if I hold you stronger in my arms?
Would that prevent our love from fading?
Well darling if you want to,
You should let it be known

Come on, come on, come on
If you love me then you should let me know
Seeing as you wanna be the one
Who lives up to their full potential

Come out, come out, come out
I know the feeling is hard to show
Seeing as you wanna be the one
Who lives up to their full potential

I think she has enough on her plate
But now she living life with no regrets
So I let my mind think that she's different from the rest
As she don't mind driving everywhere
I am not one to love all day
Even though I crave affection
I think she wants the attention
Like when she hangs out with my friends
Darling, we can't put so much trust in this

Come on, come on, come on
If you love me then you should let me know
Seeing as you wanna be the one
Who lives up to their full potential

Come out, come out, come out
I know the feeling is hard to show
Seeing as you wanna be the one
Who lives up to their full potential

I think I might have loved you but I kinda inhaled too much
Perfume and loathing
So I'll move back south
To some old small town
In Charleston
Oh, when you leave me
I won't think twice
I'll move back south
To some old small town
In Baton Rouge
When I break your heart
I won't think twice
I'll move back ...

Come on, come on, come on
If you love me then you should let me know
Seeing as you wanna be the one
Who lives up to their full potential

Come on, come on, come on
If you love me then you should let me know
Seeing as you wanna be the one
Who lives up to their full potential

Come out, come out, come out
I know the feeling is hard to show
Seeing as you wanna be the one
Who lives up to their full potential

I think I might have loved you but I kinda inhaled too much
Perfume and loathing
So I'll move back south

Matt: Well shit. This is good. I mean fucking great! It reminds me a little bit of our old stuff. Especially Grandstanding and Bravado its incredibly like our song Manufactured Radio. You guys are lots of fun.

Billie: Matt.... You spoke my mind. I'm quite a fan of what I've heard.

Title: "Everyone Leaves"
Release: January 7th, 2013
Genre: Indie pop, alternative rock, power pop
Length: 4:30
Label: North Hill Records
Producer(s): Ryan Ross Hernandez
Writer(s): Jason Andrews, Nathan Castle, Alex Manning

After somewhat slow songs by the our standards our name is stars' have set for themselves, the pace quickly picks up with the anthem that is "Everyone Leaves". In a "call to arms" to "the generation that doesn't give a fuck", the young band gives a thought-provoking song where they speak from American politics, to Twitter, to a "Lolita". It's one of the highest paced songs on the record, starting heavy and finishing heavy, without much breaks in-between. The drums are thumping powerful, as the guitar riffs swirl in and out, with Castle's almost shouting at times on putting emphasis to certain lines.

Nathan Castle sits outside on a balcony somewhere, a view of a city landscape shown at night as he explains the meaning behind the song, "There are some references in there to the American government, but in the bigger picture how I see it, is a pop culture take on how selfish people are, or have gotten. If 'Grandstanding', was the music industry song and all the bullshit there, this offers a more world scope." He adds, "There is a lyric that says, 'We're the poster boys for a generation that just doesn't give a fuck, we love ourselves more than life itself.' That's in my opinion, the world we live in. For the past decade or so, people just don't give a fuck. They might love the people in their lives, but they do no better to help others or the world they live in. People do not believe in the goodwill of others, they think that one person alone can't make a difference in the world. And a lot of that mentality has to do with the internet and that people can get things in a second. It's totally about 'I feel bad. I'm going to buy this. I know this person or that person,' this song is about the greedy, selfish world we live in."

I-I-I-I don't believe in leaders who promise hope and change
I-I-I-I don't believe in millionaires who want to lead us
I don't want to change the world, I only care for me
I just want to make jokes about them each on Twitter
Thank you for the 140 characters of pointlessness
Breaking news
This is a call to arms
"I only have depressing thoughts when I turn a radio on"

Oh baby, I use to be a saint but there's no fun in that
Now a Lolita finally notices me when I sing into a microphone
Trust your politicians blindly
And hope for another average four years

I believe that everyone is too afraid to face reality
I believe that everyone is too afraid to believe anyone else
Keep waiting on the world to change
It never will change
I will never believe in anyone again

We will start our protests but they won't change a thing
Rarely does something make my heartbeat fast
We will start our petitions but they won't change a thing
Rarely does something make my voice crack

We-we're the poster boys for a generation that just doesn't give a fuck
We-we love ourselves more than life itself

Oh baby, I use to be a saint but there's no fun in that
Now a Lolita finally notices me when I sing into a microphone
Trust your politicians blindly
And hope for another average four years

I believe that everyone is too afraid to face reality
I believe that everyone is too afraid to believe anyone else
Keep waiting on the world to change
It never will change
I will never believe in anyone again

We will start our protests but they won't change a thing
Rarely does something make my heartbeat fast
We will start our petitions but they won't change a thing
Rarely does something make my voice crack

Trust your politicians blindly
And hope for another average four years
You shouldn't care who comes out victorious
Not a single goddamn thing will change again

I believe that everyone is too afraid to face reality
I believe that everyone is too afraid to believe anyone else
Keep waiting on the world to change
It never will change
I will never believe in anyone again
I will never believe in anyone again
Keep waiting on the world to change
It never will change
I will never believe in anyone again

We will start our protests but they won't change a thing
Rarely does something make my heartbeat fast
We will start our petitions but they won't change a thing
Rarely does something make my voice crack

We will start our protests but they won't change a thing
(I will never believe in anyone again)
Rarely does something make my heartbeat fast
We will start our petitions but they won't change a thing
(I will never believe in anyone again)
Rarely does something make my voice crack

Keep waiting on the world to change
(I will never believe in anyone again)

Title: "Dear Future Ex-Wife"
Release: January 7th, 2013
Genre: Indie pop
Length: 4:01
Label: North Hill Records
Producer(s): Ryan Ross Hernandez
Writer(s): Jason Andrews, Nathan Castle, Alex Manning Jr.

In the only true ballad our name is stars offer on their debut album, "Dear Future Ex-Wife", is a straightforward piano number. Without any twists or turns, the band just offers Nathan Castle's voice almost serving as lead harmony for the entire song, along with Manning's gentle, yet melodic keys. There is no massive turn, or epic breakdown, just vocals and piano that offer a sweet moment through the thickness of the rest of the album.

Nathan is seen drinking from a wine glass before he speaks, "'Dear Future Ex-Wife,' which despite the title is a happy song, it's a love song. I created a love story in my head of a man and woman meeting in their early twenties. We pick up in the first verse where this couple is already married with kids, but they are older because their children have just left home. Then in the second verse is when we pick up in chronological order of when they first meet, we just go for them, ending to when they are expecting their child." Alex is shown in front of a piano, facing away from it as he speaks, "Musically, I think it's a beautiful, simple piece. If there was one song on the album where we really just wanted Nate's vocals to be what drove a song, without a ton of other elements, it was this one. It's as simple as it sounds, it's just Nate's voice and a piano. We had a version where Jason played guitar on it, but we just all agreed that it was kept more heartfelt with the original first take we had done. Hopefully this one where we can go on tour and play it with just everyone singing along, I think that'd be a lovely moment for us."

"Dear Future Ex-Wife"
Lyrics by Nathan Castle.
Composed by Jason Andrews, Nathan Castle, Alex Manning Jr.
Produced by Ryan Ross Hernandez.

Let's keep swinging on the swing set we built for the kids
Our children enjoyed it until they got bored and moved away
Read your Fifty Shades of Grey and I'll just make a incoherent remark
I'll laugh at my own jokes and you'll just smile at me with a twinkle in your eye
You say you love me, well yes I surely hope someone makes a movie about our love

I was bricking on twenty when we first met in a heartless city
Sure was a chilly night, but your eyes are so warming towards me
It never snows here anyways, so the Winter isn't as bitter you'd think
It was the start of a beautiful romance that would last all our lives
I just hope if we have kids one day, they look more like their mother

At twenty-one I'm not as grown up as you may think I am
On the second date I bought you a single white rose
I will plant you an entire flower garden in our backyard when we own a house together
For even if we live in a working class one-bedroom apartment now
The sun still reaches our thirteen floor, I thank you for that
My usual shaky hand, becomes steady when you take it in your own

We went our separate ways in the Spring, when the rainy days fogged up my window
So I moved to Las Vegas before the desert and burlesque shows became a bore
I am a prideful man but at the airport on my way back to Angel City, my pride went along with the jet lag
I called to tell you I'll move to wherever your career needs me to be

New York City, Los Angeles, Vegas, Miami, London, Rome, Paris, and Tokyo too
Three short years later you became everything you ever wanted
We were invited to Hollywood parties and I was always the guy standing off the frames
I never mind 'cause you're worth the travels and hassles
It took me a while but I finally got a record deal for my band
Thank you for believing in my lofty dreams and never letting go

Do you remember on your twenty-seventh birthday how we spent the night just drinking in your studio apartment?
We ordered in Chinese food and I bought you a cake from the Mexican bodega nearby
I kissed you on your neck, we spooned on the floor, and made love on your queen-size bed
I'm not an easy sleeper, but with you tied at my waist I slept just like a baby
The next morning you woke me up with a nibble in my ear
I sang the words, "I love you," trying to act as if I was in The Rat Pack

I kiss you once for good luck, twice for good measure
Our days are a rush, but at night we slow time for ourselves
So we return to the swing set we just built
Our kid is on the way growing in your stomach; they'll grow up to be just like their mother
