After an eventful debut last year the No Venues Tour has returned. With three of the biggest names in rock in recent memory headlining the tour is bound to kick major ass. But this time something's different. Venues? How can the no venues tour have venues? While last year the headlining band Reported Failure "winged it" and went around playing anywhere they had space to set up their stage and could play without getting arrested. but it wasn't always smooth. Several shows were almost shut down or limited in size. There were no venues so that tickets could be kept at the lowest price possible: free. This year there are venues but its still free! That's right you name your price for tickets. If you dont want to pay anything then you dont have to, and if you want to pay anything up to 200 dollars then you can do that too. Please note that there is a set number of tickets available. The tour will sell out fast because tickets are free and the lineup is going to kick ass.

But how can the tour book stadiums and still keep tickets free? There are two answers: doing sexual favors for booking agents... And help from the tours' wonderful sponsors.

Opening Night Summary - Sydney, Australia
UserPostedImage
Its back! Lastnight was opening night for the second no venues tour. Hey Lolita opened up the show and the crowds showed up early to see one of the biggest artists on the charts right now. After that the acoustic duo Alaskan Sunrise took the stage on their first world tour setting the mood for the next hour and a half as another acoustic act Clara also on her first major tour took the the stage for forty minutes. There were meet and greets in the acoustic tent throughout the day from headliners Lily, Riot! in the Boulevard, and Reported Failure. After Clara the big acts really started first with rock legends Quarantine who played a diverse set with songs from all eras of their career to start what is rumored to be one of their last tours. Then it was time for the first No Venues Tour alumni from the first one last year. James Urie took to the stage and now the party was really starting. The hot crowd sang every word to every song and Urie was invited back for an encore sending the show later than expected, but no one cared: it was worth it. Then it was time for the mosh pits. Riot! in the Boulevard was next and now the headliners had started. They performed everything from their first hits like "All The Non Believers" to their newest single and the crowd went wild for arguably rock's most successful artist in the past year. Lily was next. And things got heavy. It was dark and dramatic. Lily killed it for an hour and a half of sheer ecstasy. The bar was set high. Reported Failure was last.

The final headliner's set opened with 6771 the opener to their latest album and from there it was non stop. The band was ready to set the bar for the first of their shows on the free No Venues Tour. They performed chart hits like "Crumbling" and "Being Man" as well as old fan favorites like "Manufactured Radio", "I Know You" and "Short". As the mosh pits got larger and crowd surfers more intense the big finish was near. With artists like Lily, Riot!, and James Urie on the tour whom Reported Failure had collaborated with in the past there was speculation that they would join Reported Failure for the last song.

As it got later Reported Failure finally announced that they would be playing their last song. Billie announced that it would be their ballad "Goodbye, My Son". The band played the song as they normally would. Then as it approached the bridge where normally a choir would join and sing Billie Beckett stopped singing and started speaking. "Ladies and gentlemen." he said "I love doing this song but you just cant do it alone.... We've got one more thing for you. Thank you all for coming and making this night a success but before we go I need you to scream for these artists. I need to hear you." the crowd went wild in suspense. "Hey Lolita!" said Billie and they came onstage. "Alaskan Sunrise and Clara" he said and the next two artists arrived. The crowd screamed apriciatively. "Now. QUARANTINE" Billie yelled this last one and the crowd shared his enthusiasm. "JAMES URIE!" shouted Billie and the crowd went nuts. "RIOT IN THE BOULEVARD" and now there was just a continuous scream from the crowd. "LILY" shouted Billie. Now everyone was onstage. "Let me hear everyone" said Billie! Now everyone started to sing as Reported Failure played the rest of the song. Every artist and every fan sang the song. As the instruments faded away they kept singing out for a couple of measures they sang the chorus again and then the show was over.

Riot! In The Boulevard
Olympic Parks, Melbourne, Australia

UserPostedImage

Riot! In The Boulevard returned to the stage on a major tour for the first time since July, during their time away from regular live performances they have been working hard on their third studio album which is set for release sometime in the next few months, the recording has been completed and the mixing and production stages of the album are in full progress and although a release date has yet to be confirmed it is highly anticipated, it’s the question that was asked most by their fans during the meet and greets ahead of the performance and they stated that they hope to have it released before the end of the year, which was met with enthusiasm from the fans of the band.

Riot! headed out onto the stage as they will on this tour prior to the performances from Lily and Reported Failure, they provided energy and enthusiasm as you’d come to expect from the young rock group as they opened with album tracks that many of the fans would be familiar with, firstly with “Mona Lisa Smile” from their debut and quickly followed by a heart-wrenching rendition of their coming of age track “Twilight Of My Youth”, which led way to a string of love songs ranging from a dark nature, “My Echo, My Shadow, You And Me” to the youthfully naïve “All The Stars And Boulevards”, “A Moment, An Hour, A Lifetime” and the sad and longing love song with “Long Distance Conversations” and “Remember Me As A Place In Time”.

They then called out Reported Failure frontman ‘Billie Beckett’ to the stage for him to perform “Dearly Beloved” alongside the band, it's a track that has never been played live from the band before but is something they clearly decided to take advantage of with the fact that they could call upon the frontman for the first time. The band then left the stage briefly before returning at the beckoning cheers and applause of the audience and they thrashed through a four song finale that included their first hit singles, “All The Non-Believers” and “Sweet Little Fantasies” and the unexpected fan favourite that has also became a favourite of the band during the end of the previous tour they were on in support of Lily, that track is “The Rules Of Love And The Games You Play”. But the track that got the biggest reaction of the entire performance was the band’s latest single, the anthemic rock ballad, “Somewhere On The Horizon”. It was the only new material that the band played during the evening but frontwoman Amy Meyer promised fans that there would be a host of new songs debuting throughout the entire tour.

As the band finished up the performance with their most recognizable single and in fact their debut single, “Sweet Little Fantasies”, it was clear that the fans were more than happy with the setlist performed and the energy and youthful enthusiasm that the rock group brought to the stage for the second night of the tour, with the incredible line-up it’s clear that this is a tour not to be missed.

Setlist;
1. Mona Lisa Smile
2. Twilight Of My Youth
3. My Echo, My Shadow, You And Me
4. All The Stars And Boulevards
5. A Moment, An Hour, A Lifetime
6. Long Distance Conversations
7. Remember Me As A Place In Time
8. Dearly Beloved (feat. Billie Beckett)
9. All The Non-Believers
10. Somewhere On The Horizon

Reported Failure - Melbourne, Austrlia: A Darkness Themed Set
UserPostedImage
Reported Failure is known for frequently changing their set during any given tour. On opening night of the No Venues Tour II they playes a set with at least one song from each album and mostly played the hits and fan favorites. Last night in Melbourne though, the band played a set based off their latest album "Darkness". The began with songs from the EP prequel to the album (My Name is William/My Name is Freedom) and went on to perform the new album almost in its entirety with a companion video which includes clips of the music videos for the songs "My Name is William", "Goodbye, My Son", and "6771" to create a full rock opera performance. It is rumored that one night they will do this again and record all of it for fans to see online. At the end the band did play a few songs from other albums in their encore but the set was dominated by songs from Darkness. "I know that some fans will be a little bit dissapointed but we made this record to be a story and we want to perform it as a story too." After Reported Failure lily took the stage and Riot! in the Boulevard was last. Billie joined them for one song and then Riot! ended another fantastic show. Today Lily headlines in Perth, Australia.

Setlist
1. My Name is William/My Name is Freedom (Medley)
2. 6771
3. Being Man
4. Chance Run Ins
6. Darkness I
7. A Pattern of Distress
8. Crumbling
9. Darkness II
10. 2001
11. Writing My Own Eulogy
12. Goodbye, My Son
13. New America
(Encore)
14. Disarm
15. Manufactured Radio

James Urie
No Venues Tour II

UserPostedImage

James Urie is no stranger to the No Venues tour and the last time he hit the stage he was still in the beginning stages of his career, and while he was still green as a performer and musician back then, he still managed to put on a no less than immaculate set. Now, two albums later and a hand full of experience, experiences and number one singles, Urie has put on a show stopping set. James Urie has shown so much growth as a musician since his first album "Climbing" and you could easily see his transition comparing his early performances to the powerhouse performances we see from him in present day, and especially his abilities shown during his set on the No Venues Tour. From the start, the crowd has a massive pop in cheer as soon as Urie's name is called. The heavy opening chords of his #1 single Broken is heard, James Urie keeps this depressive nature on as he always does for this performance as lights flicker throughout the arena with smoke filling the stage. After he runs through the opening number, the hot crowd continues cheering and Dig Me A Hole unleashes, James Urie also possesses a less depressive nature as the party really starts when songs 2 and 3 come on. The massive crowd stay fully behind Urie and has sung every word on each track so far further proving the impact Urie's music has had on the people and fans watching his performance. He runs through Anarchy Like This, his top 3 hit, the crowd also cheers and sings along for this one as Urie walks around the stage singing every word perfectly. After the 3rd track, he talks to the crowd "HOWS EVERYBODY DOING HERE TONIGHT!" The crowd pops into a massive cheer after a few words Urie then runs through Believing In Being Happy, his second official single off of his debut album. The song is slow and sorrowful and Urie's attitude falls down into that state, and stays that way for his 5th track on the setlist, "I'm Not Dead". He picks things up for another one of his #1 hits "The Struggle".

UserPostedImage

You can tell this is a huge favorite of the crowd as you hear the arena roaring yelling along the lyrics of this track. Urie screams out this track doing head bangs and moving throughout the stage as well as going into the stage holding holding the mic to his mouth nad having a good time as so is his fans in attendance. After "The Struggle" he does a quick cover of the single in which he features on, in Stephanie Fierce's "Lead Me To Your Heart" That was a massive hit last year after the cover, he then sings his empowering "6 Feet Under" taken from his "Tales From The Struggle" album. King of Heartbreak, which follows, also is taken from the same album and has a heavy indie influence on it. The crowd relaxes a bit for this song and lets Urie's voice really shine throughout this performance and probably had people wondering "why wasn't this a single?". He then moves onto another crowd favorite, his latest promotional single "Trying My best Not To Forget" the crowd sings along to every word on this track and go completely nuts when Urie announces the next songs he will be singing, a melody of two new songs off of his new album "Sex, Drugs & Complications" that will be hitting stores Nov. 11th. The crowd show so much appreciation and Urie says thank you and looks at home on stage, as if he never wants to leave. He then performs his latest single and #1 "Reliate". This another crowd rumbler as the crowd sing along perfectly to every word he sings on his latest hit also taken off of his new album. This could easily be the highlight performance of the night, but we are not done yet. It seems to be getting hot and so Urie takes off his shirt, the females in the crowd go insane. On the first set, Urie is invited back and performs an encore performance of "Farewell" this is clearly the new highlight of the night as the crowd gives the biggest energy for the last performance. Before performing the song, Urie speaks to his fans and says "SEX.....DRUGS....AND COMPLICATIONS......NOVEMBER 11th" among other things.

UserPostedImage

Even though this caused his show to go later then expect, it was worth it as Urie ended his set perfectly. Later in the night as the closing performance Urie shares the stage with Reported Failure, Alaskan Sunrise, Clara, Hey Lolita, Riot In the Boulevard, Quarantine, and Lily to perform with Reported Failure.
