MTV Inside Look at Barbarian's New Single! VIDEO: Barbarian chats about new controversial single "Fierce" Jake: So lets talk here for a second! You....my lady...are very pretty. Loving the blonde!
Barbarian: Well thank you, I would say the same to you but I don't know how you feel by me calling you pretty
(laughs) Jake: If it's coming from your mouth I'm totally fine with it. Besides, you look like you can beat me up!
Barbarian: Oh god, stop, I am not that muscular!
*cuts/wipes out*
Jake: So..let's talk about your new single, titled "Fierce". So here's the deal, when I first listened to the song, because you know...you were kind enough to give us that exclusive, I pretty much had my jaw open! I mean you are being very....very...
Barbarian: Naughty?
(laughs) Oh I know! Listen, the song is not meant to be about bunnies and rainbows, it's a party song and it represents the title very well. But believe it or not, there's an intentional message behind it. The message is about 90's hip hop and the way men portrayed us women. The song does ironically sample 2 Live Crew's "Pop that Coochie", but I kind of turned the tables a bit and put it so that us women degrade men. I'm sure men don't mind that either way (giggles) But it is going to be interesting how people are going to perceive the song. Overall, the song is about being fierce at a party. It's nothing too serious and that's kind of how I want to kick things off for this album. There's much more to look forward to!
Jake: Which I figured, but you look so innocent on interviews and stuff, so that was very unexpected and I must say, I really feel like you have a hit in your hands!
Barbarian: Thank you Jake, but I'm not looking for a hit, I just really hope that my people who listen to it love it!
Jake: What? The beat, THOSE VOCALS, and what you're saying, you have it going on, come on....it's a hit!
Barbarain: You are too funny Jake!
Jake: Can I talk about one particular thing on the song?
Barbarian: It depends! I don't want to give away to much just yet!
Jake: Stop me if I'm saying too much OK!
Barbarian: You're saying too much (laughs)
Jake: Oh that's not fair!
Barbarian: We gotta wait til the song comes out. Sorry (Does puppy face)
Jake: Ok, well I respect that! (Does puppy face)
Barbarian: Only a few days left!
Jake: Many people consider you to be R&B! Do you consider yourself to be just an R&B artist?
Barbarian: You know, that's definitely something I don't want to label myself as. I'm not "just R&B". However, I do want to make R&B music and I do want to do a lot of it. But that's not the only kind of music I will make. I'm entitled to my own artistry and I'm not gonna follow a trend or do what others expect me to do, I'm gonna always do my own thing and I think that is important. But I can say that this album is R&B heavy, you can definitely believe that. I think that my second single off the album will lean more to the R&B side, but once again, I'm doing things piece by piece and I don't wan to limit myself as an artist. That's just boring and typical.
Jake: Well thank you so much, that was very well said. I can't wait to see that video you're gonna be premiering. Anything special you want to say, before we head out?
Barbarian: Well I'll be heading out to 106 & Park on December 10th to premiere and perform the new single, so my fans can definitely look out for that. The song will also be premiering her on MTV.com, and on VEVO simultaneously so that's gonna be awesome. A lot of great things are coming, but all I can say is to stay tuned (smiles)
