Song Description & Background:

"Electric Fever" is a song by experimental pop musician and producer Daniel taken from his third studio album "XXX Party". Daniel solely wrote and produced the track as well as all the other songs on the album. The song is being distributed worldwide as the lead single from the album through North Hill Records and showcases a more mainstream approach in comparison to all of Daniel's previous releases. The song includes a B-side titled "A Great Big Invitation" which will later accompany the song. A music video for the song was filmed in a private film location and is set to premiere on MTV December 21st, 2012. Daniel will also appear as musical guest on X-facot and Saturday Night Live to perform and promote the song. The song was made available for digital download and radio airplay on December 9th, 2012.

"The song definitely came to me in a weird kind of way. I remember I was walking in the forest of where I use to live and I was alone because I'm just a loner like that. I walked and walked, just kind of jamming out to some of my favorite music. So eventually I ran across this deer and of course I immediately got scared. However, I swear to you I was not on drugs or any crazy shit like that, but the deer began to spit some kind of game towards me. As in like, it was hitting on me. Every time I looked in her eyes, they would shine and she would shake her little legs. So like, I began testing it to see if I was just me being crazy. I walked up to it and It started walking around me and brushing up against me in a circular motion, almost like it was showing me some sort of trust and acceptance. At this point I was freaking out, my heart was beating a hundred miles a minute, I had never in my life just walked up to a wild animal, It could of easily attacked me. Obviously, there was no weird kinky sexual thoughts coming into my head, that's just plain sick, but there was something mysterious about that animal and I was intrigued by it. But unfortunately, my fear got the best of me. So I slowly started walking away from it and the whole time it stared at me like it didn't want me to go, and as soon as I went far enough where I almost could not see it, I made a run for it. So I wrote this song dedicated to her." - Daniel


Song Composition & Lyrical Meaning:

The song begins with a loud airy warp sound that quickly fades out into the songs main composition, which is surprisingly filled with a R&B-funk like structure bassline. Also, along with the interactive bassline of the song is a very present but distorted echoy sounding flute that repeats in a catchy matter, adding a groovy appealing touch to the listener. The song production progresses, as the flute along with the striking bassline and the psychedelic synthesized beat following behind it progresses. As the song begins it's first verse, the song's composition is stripped down to just tribal drum and minimal guitar. Not long before the production kicks in again and finally the chorus comes in very quickly bringing back the guitar strokes that contains a groovy like stomp beat. The same structure is repeated in the second verse, which all leads up the epic bridge of the song. The song's bridge contains an orgasmic flute that was previously heard toward the beginning of the song but only this time it's more present than ever standing out almost like a solo. The flute's composition which is very much distorted repeats itself intro a trance-like echoy fest that leads out to the outro and finale of the song where all instruments come together, only this time it contains an electro beat that overrules the climatic bridge of the song

The song's lyrics contain themes of sexual and mystical experiences through the mindset of psychedelic culture: "I said ooh girl, you giving me electric fever, tame it girl, you turn me on with your electric fever". However, the song lyric turn into a jam fest party with the following sampled lyrics from Stephanie Fierce's "Electric Club", "Do you what you feel now! Electric club now!"


Production and Instrumentation Synopsis: (1st person Narrative)

The songs was first layered with piano, and I had all minor keys, sharp and flat notes in there. It sounded good when I was creating it. I was looking at songs that had build ups in them and that's how I was inspired. My intention from the get-go was to create something that sounded some what inspirational and something that would bring a different kind of light into my music, which is kind of ironic when you think about it, because I hardly ever think that way. But it is true, if you strip the song to just piano without the effects, you hear a pretty inspirational and dramatic sounding track. For the guitars, It was pretty simple and repetitive. Once gain, this song is kind of more mainstream than what I'm used to dealing, so it was very hard for me to follow the "pop music rules" and this was probably the hardest task. So what I decided is that I wanted the guitar composition to be a groovy backbone to the track, when In reality it was the piano work. However, when it comes to the effects that were added on, there is somewhat jangle distorted free form kind of thing going on in a few sections. There's definitely a lot of disco R&B flavored funk going on in most of the sections. It's almost like the guitars are having a weak attempt to sounding rock. I wanted the drum work for the song to be very tribal like. My vocal ranges go from Bb3 to Eb5, so that's hardly any effort compared to some of my more vocally driven tracks, but obviously there was a purpose behind that. I wanted my vocals to be more like a silhouette to my actual vocals, almost how I would sound if I were a backup singer, but in a more upfront kind of way. Also, in order to create that psychedelic sound I was seeking, I couldn't let my vocals be too distracting towards the composition of the song. There's a lot of echo in my voice, and other shit pop stars use to make their voice sound all edgy and stuff, once again it was all part of making this song different. I wanted the beat to be trippy but funky. Almost like a Prince meets Gina X Performance type of feel. The song almost feels like you're surfing inside an electric current, but like all trippy and shit. It's like and adventure of shit that doesn't exist. My vocals aren't meant to be my absolute best. Trust me I can hold a note, but I wanted this song to be more laid back and be more about the beat and the instrumentation. I didn't want my vocals to be clean and prissy like something you'd hear on a Suzie CD, but I wanted people to enjoy it of course. The famous flute breakdown that I am very proud of is kind of like the poison in the song. There's a lot of orgasmic flow in the flute and of course there's no possible way a flute can sound like that without computer effects. It definitely gives the listener a pinch, like okay, you might want to listen to this again for this specific part. Overall, the secret to this track, is that is speed up such a way that you can't really hear the bass work in the guitars, so it sounds kind of mysteriousness and psychedelic, when in reality the song is not.


Live Performance Commentary:

"This song was definitely one of the hardest to pull off live in terms of the instrumentation, because there was a lot of effects done in the studio to make the sounds come out a certain way and I absolutely hate back tracks, but I'm definitely excited for people to see how this will be performed live, because there are some really exciting additional adlibs that were added to the live version that people won't hear in the original. So it works out, I think that right there is a win win. But it doesn't take away from the original, and that's what makes the song so amazing to me, I can different versions that still give you that same definition. And of course, the dancing." - Daniel
