For everybody who cares, here's a new song from me to you. Love, Trent.
TITLE: Orion
ARTIST: Shadowmachine
GENRE: Industrial, Darkwave, EBM
LABEL: Liberation/Nomad Records
BACKGROUND/RECORDING:
"I grew up in Lake Orion," says bandleader Trent D'Amour. "My father sold heroin and my mom was a nurse. Naturally, I took after my father and by the time he buggered off when I was fourteen or so, I'd already tried heroin. The song is basically about my experiences during that time, and it's pretty dark lyrically. I think I tried to make the music kind of poppy and catchy just to balance that out. It's got a really cool 80's synth-pop feel to it."
The song begins with a low, grimy sounding synth arpeggio being accented by tinkling piano notes. After a few seconds of this, a drum machine comes in, backing the synth with a tinny, industrial beat. A siren sounding synth lead is played, and the vocals begin.
you pulled me off the bathroom floor
we closed our eyes, we closed the door
listening to floyd, dark side of the moon
thinking about the dark side of the spoon
you watched my eyes turn white and dead
you watched my arm start dripping red
you watched me crawl just at your feet
you watched me while i tried to pleadTrent spits out the lyrics to the pre-chorus and chorus spitefully, a hint of reverb on his voice, while the opening synth hook is repeated.
i love my manufactured feel
but it's the only thing i feel
i hate my manufactured feel
and it's the only thing i feel
i did it again
i did it again
i did it again and again and againThe verse part comes back, Trent's vocals becoming calmer, the driving beat backing up his words,
far below, the wages of sin
far below, the sorry state i'm in
far below, like nobody knows
far below is the place i'll goThe chorus part returns, Trent's voice sounding even more aggressive as the synth hook blares in the background
i love my manufactured feel
but it's the only thing i feel
i hate my manufactured feel
and it's the only thing i feel
i did it again
i did it again
i did it again and again and againThe synth arpeggio and drum machine have an almost breakdown-like part, with more layered percussive synth accents being played, before the verse part returns, Trent's voice sounding pained and angry, all but screaming the last line,
picked me off the kitchen floor
you wouldn't take my shit no more
you kicked me out, left for dead
no more would I fuck with your head
that bleeding vein, that bleeding vein
it got me in trouble again and again
The pounding beat comes back as the chorus repeats itself until the song slowly fades out, leaving a feeling of unresolved issues,
i love my manufactured feel
but it's the only thing i feel
i hate my manufactured feel
and it's the only thing i feel
i did it again
i did it again
i did it again and again and again
i did it again
i did it again
i did it again and again and again and again...SOUNDS LIKE:
