The album is published and released by Chaos Records who Julia has signed a contract in the begging of 2012. The album counts with the collaboration of Reported Failure’s leader Vin Peters who worked with Julia in every song of the album sometimes as a producers other times as a writer and composer, throughout the year Julia also received help from other singers like Abie Lena as a writer in two songs in the album and James Urie who ended up featuring as a male voice on the album’s first single. Longtime Julia Volkova’s manager Rick Bonadio worked as a producer in three songs in the album and helped Julia to write another one song in the album. Most of the album was recorded in L.A. in October while Julia had a couple of free days from her touring, but she had started the works in the album officially in April of the same year ending the whole process in December of 2012 in London. This is the first album by Julia to be conceptual. It tells a story of a girl who’s turned into a vampire and her struggles in love while she tries to live a regular life in her new condition. Julia said also that if her fans won’t like the concept story she created for the album, they’ll relate to the lyrics the same way once she tried to keep all of them as a general subject, so everyone is able to relate to them. At first all the songs sounded like her previous work and they didn’t seem to follow a certain theme or concept, till Julia went to watch the last film of the Underworld vampire saga which inspired her to write the song ‘The Bite’. After she had written this song she showed to her manager and label’s executive and it was decided that she would make a conceptual album and the main theme of it would be vampire mythologies. After this song, all of the other songs were written in a way to from a story of a young adult girl who’s turned into a vampire. Julia’s manager Rick Bonadio convinced Chaos Records representatives to hire Vin Peters as the producer of the album, claiming that the leader of Reported Failure was the creative person behind the acclaimed conceptual band released by his band last year. For a couple of weeks they both worked separately on songs for the project and finally they get together in April of 2012 and after that date the official work on the album had begun. Later on the year they got together again in September and finally in December where both finalize the whole production on the album in London, where Julia lives since 2011. Julia was helped by other songwriters like Abie Lena, who received several e-mails from Julia with some of the lyrics Julia had written for the album, Abie improved some of those lyrics in other to help Julia to completing her thoughts. James Urie wrote two songs in the album too, one of them was the single he featured on and the other one was another option of a featuring, but it was not necessary once his character in killed in the first song. Rick Bonadio, who works with Julia since her soloist debut later in 2011 collaborated for the first time with her in the album, he helped to produce three songs and he also co-wrote another two songs. I keep watching him through my window, I know he notices me sometimes, but I don’t care, he’s so charming and seductive and scary. The songs also bear lots of electronic sounds such as distorted strings and vocals. It’s spooky and a little innocent, Julia voice is high and thin, her husky sound is not presented here. The drums are much elaborated with tambour and addition of electronic percussion. This morning I went to the supermarket at night and he was there, I could perceive that he was smiling to me, his teeth are so white and his eyes are so seductive, I can’t resist him, but he’s not a trustful man, he hides something and I’m feeling everyday more tempted a I go under this mystery. Recently on local news there have been strange animals attacking people and draining people’s blood, it’s creepy, people describe these animals like big bats but with human facial expressions, isn’t that weird? He asked if I wanted a better post in the enterprise, that stink pig! Anyway, Joseph was there too, he was a pain in the ass too, lately he’s so boring saying that I’m not the same, that I changed that he can’t re cognize me anymore, why didn’t he leave me alone? But then I saw him alone, wearing jeans and a back jacket, he was so handsome, so tempting, I couldn’t stop looking at him, when he approached me. He said a couple of stupid things, asked me about what was I thinking about the party and how much he likes parties, he’s such a player, his eyes are so blue that I can even say they change to red in one time, maybe it’s the reflection of the light, well and thinking about the reflection, I couldn’t see his reflection in the glass door, maybe it’s too dark to see. Well when I got home from that party, I felt like someone was following me, at first I could see the person silhouette, I tried to walk faster. I entered my room and he was there, I knew he was different, he was completely naked, I couldn’t stop looking to his chest, so handsome, his skin so soft, he came near me and started to undress me, it was so smooth and dedicated I felt like I was entering heaven till he grabbed my neck and bite me. I woke next day with the sun burning half of my hand, the curtains of my bedroom was almost close, I was cold, something was different, I could hear sounds better, I could see better too, I could even smell better, I got up from the floor, walked to my bathroom and I stared the mirror for a couple of minutes, there was nothing there. First she went to watch Underworld’s last movie released, then she join Vin Peters in the studio and they both started out the concept of the album with this particular song. It differs in a hundred ways sonically from Julia’s previous work. The track has influences of new wave, synthpop and gothic rock but the predominantly sound of it it’s the post-punk revival which is more appealing to mainstream radios than punk itself. There are several electronic sounds and also ambient sounds in the song prominent of its synthpop influence. Electric guitar riffs and drums are the main structure of the song, Julia’s husky and sexy vocals combined with James rock and roll singing style makes it even more sexy and suggestive than any other song in the album. James helped Julia and Vin to write the song too, lyrics are about a couple of vampires breaking up their relationship but one of them still wants to keep with the relationship but in the end of it both agreed they must separate. Julia said that there’s no other interpretation of this song due to its straightforward lyrics, it’s a fantasy sexy song, in her words. The song was choose to be the lead single of the album and it manage to peak at number 2 on airplay and number 3 in digital sales, it also received a video which was shot in a version of three parts shared with other two song in the album. She can’t see the sunlight anymore and now she almost forgot what is like to be warm by it, it doesn’t matter anymore. She’s so far away from home but still young and not tired, how could that be possible? She also tried to not drink anyone else’s blood, she’s not the one who liked to murder a person, but sometimes she feels so thirst that she has to find someone to drink its blood, in a certain time she manage to stole a couple of blood from a hospital, it’s not that good but at least it’s a clean blood. She met once in a while with another vampire, but they all look the same and still she prefers to walk alone. She killed a vampire on Texas because he tried to kill her first, no big deal. Walking alone makes Carly feels sad and depress in a lot of times, there are certain moments where she just stay, in a dark place looking to nowhere with an empty mind, she can’t sleep like a human being but she can empty her mind and close her eyes, it helps the time pass, once she ‘slept’ for a whole month, she only woke up because of the damn thirst. Did God forget about her? She used to be a good girl, in that gray morning Carly was so sick of all that sadness that she decided to walk outside the abandoned manor she was hiding, she was somewhere near Pennsylvania, she saw a handsome man looking from her the other side of the street, she knew he was a vampire too, but there was something different with him, he approached her and said that his name was Thomas and that he was traveling the whole country after her, he was Marcio’s brother, Julia hesitated a bit but he explained that his brother was a stupid blood drainer, he was different and he was glad that Carly killed Marcio. They spend a week knowing each other and sharing some victims in a prison near the city they were, drinking blood from people who were in the prison made Carly feels a little less assassin. Thomas told Carly that there are a big vampire clan living in the US and that they only let smart and strong vampires to join them, he convinced Carly to go with him to meet the clan. They travelled around a whole year to find the clan, meantime being together was not all that bad for Carly, despite they had faced some vampire killers around the way they finally arrived at the vampire’s clan hideout.' It reminds us of Julia’s work with her former band ElectroDeath, especially they first international album. Julia ‘s voice is warming and dark, she only raises her voice to a higher note in the chorus of the song, there are backing vocals elements and a drum sequence that follow throughout the song. Piano and electric guitar completes the sounds of the song, lyrically it‘s about redemption, like if someone has made a terrible mistake and is begging God or any other superior figure for forgiveness and comprehension. Julia expressed her feelings in the song by saying that this is another song written strictly for Carly’s story, she never felt like she needed to be forgiven for anything, but for Carly after she left her hometown she got into a very dark period, even more because she refused to kill humans to feed her so she currently felt damned and she needed someone to forgive her. The point is Carly notices that Thomas got too much close to her, Isabella knows that and she won’t let him to be with Carly but who said Carly wants anything with Thomas? The truth is after all these years Carly’s miss Joseph, somehow she feels something for him, she was dumb enough to never realize this before. The clan was composed by 20 vampires, one of them the elder one Lucius, likes Carly, he said to her that she is incredibly powerful, because she killed and drunk Marcio’s blood, Marcio was an elder too just like Thomas is, this made Carly a very strong and powerful vampire girl, unfortunately all the hopes that Carly had to become human again was demystified By Lucius, once you’re turned you’ll never comeback. The main objective of the Clan is to survive with a little dignity and to kill any vampire hunter that would stay in their way and believe me when I tell you there are some very strong vampire hunters around the world one of them is Joseph! Yes you read right, after Carly left her hometown Joseph became obsessed by vampires and he sort of started to develop a killer instinct for these creatures. Well it’s been almost ten years now and he had traveled the whole world after Carly, he wants to revenge her, he can’t understand why she was turned and he would kill any vampire to see her as a human again. Carly is feeling good for the first time as a vampire, she has Thomas to hangout, Isabella to hate and Lucius to call as father, she was not completely happy and maybe she’ll never be but she feels safe there in the clan. In one Night Isabella, Thomas and Carly were ordered to look around the neighbor about a certain vampire hunter that was seen sneaking around, they instead went to look after him and they found him, but in fact that was a trap, and there were not only one vampire hunter but five vampire hunters, who cornered them in order to find the clan lair. And so they did, when they arrived at the vampire’s clan lair they quickly killed Isabella and so Carly and Thomas managed to escape from what was the end of that clan, Lucius and the others were all killed by the vampire hunters, Carly was seeing her comfortable world being taken away from her again. It has a regular structure predictable on rock songs. The chorus of the song is the highlight of it, it becomes louder and harder but nothing compared to previous track on the album. Julia’s vocal comes back to the husky sexy sound she first sung in the song ‘Tonight I gave Up’, she sounds ironically, probably because of the song’s lyrics which talks about freedom. The meaning the behind the song is to be free form a situation or a person who was the focus of your life, and despite you might still have traces of that old life you feel better and you see the light in the end of the tunnel. Rumors that the song is about ElectroDeath, Julia left the band last year to pursuit a solo career but frequently she was asked and people refereed to her as a member of the band. In Carly’s perceptions it’s the point where Carly realizes that she is in love for Joseph and even though she didn’t see him in a while now, she feels something for him, but it also represents the first time Carly feels fine as a vampire. Vin produced the song and clearly we can perceive his unmistakable guitar riffs and drum sequence, it still is a very different sound for Julia, but now the album enters in a old reference of her first album with more folk oriented songs. They found Joseph in Spain, he was hiding in an apartment when Carly first saw him in one night, when both finally looked at each other again it was like a movie, Carly felt something strange for Joseph, she could almost feel happy by seeing him again and so Joseph kind of shared the same sensation for Carly’s appearance. They talked for a several hours and Carly knew that he got married with a Spanish girl and that he no longer hunts vampires, but it’s hard to leave the vampire hunters group, so he’s still hiding in Spain, the knowledge of Joseph marriage to this girl named Rosa, made Carly realize that they won’t ever be together. They belong to different worlds. At least Carly still have Thomas as a friend beside her and by the way Thomas didn’t want to go with Carly when she went to meet Joseph, he said he was trying to contact another vampire clan in Europe. Carly went to meet Thomas again to tell him that Joseph will help them in hiding themselves from the vampire hunters, which was when Carly got a big surprise. When she found that Thomas met the European vampire clan, she didn’t know that in fact Thomas was angry for his Clan’s destruction he made up an ambush for Carly, he wanted revenge against the vampire hunters and so Joseph was the man who would lead his new friends to the destruction of those murderesses. Thomas kidnaped Carly, she felt so betrayed, she couldn’t even tell Joseph that Thomas was going after him to maybe kill him for revenge, she asked Thomas why he was doing that, he said that one day she’ll forgive him and she’ll live with him as a vampire. Carly refused to live as her new nature, but she also wanted to revenge from the vampire hunters she just didn’t want to see Joseph hurt, he was not guilty after all. Thomas forced Joseph to tell him where the vampire hunters hide, and after that Joseph and his wife were kidnaped with Carly in the same cell. Thomas and his new vampire crew wen to kill all of the vampire hunters and so they did. It was a massacre, the vampire hunters were formed by around 50 guys and 15 women and all of them were brutally assassin by the European clan of vampires and Joseph himself who even quartered the leader of the hunters. Meanwhile Carly was forced to kill three of the vampire guards who have stayed to watch her, Joseph and Rosa, she manage to free them form that cell and she said to Joseph run away and hide with his wife on their hometown, by saying that Carly knew she would never see Joseph again and despite Joseph was happy with his new wife he kissed Carly as a goodbye gesture. Carly needed to run away too, but before she needed to find Thomas, after all she still wanted to be with him, he was everything that was left for her to not feel alone, she went to meet him in the way he was coming back to the European clan’s lain, she told him that she free Joseph and Rosa, Thomas than says he won’t run away from that place and that both of them should stick together with the clan. Carly realized that Thomas was just like them, Carly left Europe with the promise of surviving that world as a human and not as a blood drainer and if Thomas will ever wish to be with Carly again, she said him that she would be in Russia.' Sonically it's a chunky pop rock melody, thrashing guitars and oh-so smoky vocals, there's hooks, emotion, thought-provoking lyrics, all topped off with a monstrous chorus that brings plenty of teenaged angst to proceedings. The song has an acoustic guitar riff start and it grows to a heavy rock chorus mixed with violins and Julia’s husky vocals, it comes back to a slow down melody when it comes to the second verse, but still is bigger than its start. It ends with a solo violin sound, some sort of a introduction to the next song on the album. It’s not a change on the album’s sounding style so far, the sound of guitars and Julia’s vocal intonation are still the same from previous songs in the album, but now she’s singing more dramatically and it almost could turn into a ballad because of its violins and slow tempo drums sequence. In a hurricane of emotions Carly was forced to rob some money so she could dignity live in Russia for some time, the weather was more subtle for her, she was living in a region where the sun almost don’t rise, so she’ll feel more human, despite she killed some human beings due to the money and blood she needed to live. She met a little girl who lives with her mother in the same building she choose to live her name is Meryl and somehow Carly found a good friend where she could tell her sadness, of course Carly didn’t tell the girls that in fact Carly was a vampire, but it was pretty good for Carly to have someone she could talk to about her deceptions and sorrows. The young girls became a frequently visitant to Carly’s home, Carly never bough human food after she was turned, but she bought some cookies and milk so she could offer to her new friend. The worst sensation for Carly was that she was again alone, she was betrayed and Joseph was just a memory right now, she’ll never find love again, maybe she’s destined to live lonely days and to live with that pain. For three years Carly lived in Russia, recovering from all that sadness she was forced to live and all the deceptions she faced, well the good thing was that finally she was feeling better and things were starting to change for her, Meryl became the sister Carly never had in her life and that was a person Carly could care about, she choose to take Meryl and her sick mom now, to travel around Europe, Meryl’s mom was diagnosed with terminal cancer, Carly was clung to take care of Meryl and so she did. After two years traveling around Europe with Meryl and her mom, in that point Meryl already knew about Carly’s condition, but Meryl wasn’t afraid of Carly, both were like sisters now, and Meryl’s mom died by the begging of the third year they were traveling. Meryl was already a teenage girl and she invited Carly to come back to her hometown, at first Carly refused but Meryl convinced her. Carly and Thomas had a long talk about everything that happened to them between the times they were away from each other. Carly told about Meryl now with 18 years old and that she swore to protect her till her death or till Carly’s death, Thomas was very happy for Carly that she had found someone to look after, even though Thomas knew that Carly would suffer in the end, she was happy and Thomas was happy too. Carly and Meryl decided to stay for a couple of time with Thomas, Carly was somehow falling in love for Thomas, he was always nice to Carly even though what he had done by her and Joseph, he could’ve kill all of them but he let them to run away, what Carly could not perceive was that Meryl now with 21 years old was also falling in love for Thomas and although she loved Carly as a sister, she would do anything to stay with him. It was in a day where Carly and Thomas were sleeping that Meryl entered Thomas bedroom in order to seduce him, Thomas was in a deep rest as Meryl was getting closer to him, sexually she started to touch Thomas’s cold skin and even more closer to him she kissed him waking him up. Thomas first reflection was to push Meryl away, she got very angry and started to argue with him that she was in love and maybe she wanted to become a vampire just like him, when he told Meryl that he loved Carly and that no one could take that feeling away from him. In a furry moment Meryl left Thomas bedroom and entered Carly’s bedroom, Thomas went after Meryl trying to calm her, when he arrived at Carly’s bedroom, Meryl was about to kill Carly with a stake, Thomas quickly put himself between Carly and the stake receiving the stab for Carly. Meryl realized what she had done, the same time Carly woke up and saw Thomas dead on the ground and his body started to be burn itself. Feeling desperate and isolated Carly asked Meryl what happened and Meryl started to blame Carly for what had happened, without understanding the situation Carly took Meryl’s ark and cut her to drop blood on Carly’s month, in a second Carly could saw through Meryl’s blood what really happened in that day and all the nasty thoughts Meryl was having from Carly for a long time now. Carly’s Tales 'In a roller coaster of emotions, Carly decide to keep up with the plan of traveling to her hometown in US. In her counts it’s been more than 40 years she’s away of her house, she never sold it, the house is still there, perhaps she think it is still there, maybe Joseph is still there, with his wife but in this point it would be a relief for Carly to see he happy with his beautiful family. When she arrived at her hometown, she went straight to her old house, and there was it, old, dirty, it has become the haunted house of the street, funny isn’t it? The ‘haunted house’ all stories about her in the neighbor, was that she had become a ghost, well she feels like a ghost, she’s still looking 20 despite she’s around 60, and so she remembered that Joseph might be with 60 too. She saw Joseph’s wife in front of their house, she was with a child on her lap, she looks old too, maybe that child is her grandchild, how long time they had met in Europe, Carly can’t remember, time has passed for her so subtle that she could even remember of Marcio’s tempting stare. The song is hardly different from the first lead single of Julia’s upcoming album and according to the set list of her album it comes at number 9, almost closing the album. Sonically it reminds of Julia’s first album, Because of its fragility and simplicity, there’s no much to talk about the arrangements of the song then just that it is composed by piano, acoustic guitar and drums, Julia’s vocal’s range is very clear and thin, also its high at some points of the song and there’s a dramatic intonation on Julia’s singing style. The concept of the song can be explained in two forms. The first one continues the story of Carly, the vampire we seen some days ago in the video for ‘The Bite’ featuring James Urie, in this point of the album her story is almost in the end, and it seems that she’s singing about a love that doesn’t want her anymore and now she’s finding herself wondering situations where they probably would be together. But in the end of the song she still declares her love for this man, by saying that’s he’s waiting for him. In another point of view the song is about Julia’s last relationship with fellow folk singer Katie Coyle, back at 2011 Julia revealed that’s eh had written a song about Katie and that the song would feature her first studio album, but for unknown reasons the song was not released. Producer Vin Peter revealed for this release that she already had the lyrics and the arrangements of the song, when she showed him and that before he changed a couple of lines on the lyrics, there were even Katie’s name on it. It has an acoustic guitar melody with some other strings instruments and percussion. Julia sounds tired and sad, she sings it quilt simply and sometimes sleepy. There’s influences of folk elements on it too, specially the violin sound which follows the song from the first chorus to its end. Lyrically it’s about someone committing suicide, it was written the same time ‘Haunted’ was written, it was used to be as the final track of the album and obviously it talks about the last act of Carly, which is her suicide. Carly lived for almost 50 years as a vampire, she had a bunch of relationships and also some battles she had to survive, but in the end she reveals that she never forgot Joseph and that she rather chooses to die with him then live immortal without him. Other elements searched to form the track are some phrases of Peruvian philosopher ‘Sofoleto’, he wrote the last phrase Carly reads from Joseph’s words left for her and Julia used his writings of Immortality to create the concept of this end track.
