E.P Title: My Secret Garden
By: Ada von Wannemaker
Length: 5:52
Label: Take Action Records
Genre: Indie rock, indie pop

Quote:
"These songs are my heart and soul. They are short, they are sweet, they are what my being is made of. There are five songs on my E.P., each other them about a minute long. This has been a very experiential past few months for me, and I wanted to share my feelings and my thoughts with my fans. And then only way I know how to do that is through music. I would like to thank my husband, Erich Hess, for always being beside me, no matter how much trouble and heartache I am; the entire Hess clan, for giving me a place to live, and a family to live with for so many months; Nichole Fischer, for agreeing to do a song with me even though she is pregnant and tired and sick all the time. Poor thing. And I would especially like to thank my cat, Dietrich, for repeatively jumping on me while I was trying to write these songs, and overall being a bother throughout the whole creative process. I hope you all love these songs as much as I loved writing them! Love you!"

TRACK LIST:
1. The Road - 1:18
2. Playing Bluebeard's Wife - 0:26
3. Spring Cleaning - 1:06
4. When Death Came Calling (feat. Nichole Fischer) - 1:45
5. My Secret Garden - 1:17

TITLE: The Road
BY: Ada von Wannemaker
LENGTH: 1:18

The song starts out with in silence, with no noise for a good five seconds. Slowly, a pipe organ comes in, playing a soft, church-like melody. Ada sings over the pipe organ, her voice in a childlike happiness, slightly distorted, as if you were hearing her over an old radio.

The way that everybody's voice comes out muffled when they speak
The way we take our diminishing inventories
Month to month and
Week to week
The Maria Callas records on the stereo all the time
You are going to get your and I am going to get mine
Because in this car, in this car
Somebody is bound to get burned
I know
I know
Because I have been watching the road turn

The song continues in the same pattern, but the hazy, old sound over the singing stops, and Ada's voice comes through clear. She sings a little bit louder, like she is angry and frustrated.

The enigma variations on the radio
The things that I could guess at
The things that I already know
And the twelve thousand dollars that turned up in my purse
You have done something awful
I have done something worse
And in this car, in this car
Somebody is bound to get burned
I know
I know
Because I have been watching the road turn

As Ada's voice fades out, the sound of static from a radio comes in, buzzing into the next song...

TITLE: Playing Bluebeard's Wife
BY: Ada von Wannemaker
LENGTH: 0:26

The static from the first song fades out as a drum starts playing a jazzy, slow melody. Ada's voice sings through with a slow, drunken, jazz club type voice. An acoustic guitar plays with her, keeping the same flowing melody of her voice. The shortness of the song leaves something to be desired.

On the way home from the party
Neither of us said a word
LeAnn Rimes on the car stereo
Sang that song you know I hate
The one about the blackbird
And the rain came down on the windshield
I wished it would wash us both away
You had to open up your mouth, did you not?
I knew what you were going to say
And you played Bluebeard's wife
Opening every cupboard, trying to find the smoking gun
Well, I told you, I told you
I told you not to open that one.

The song fades out.

TITLE: Spring Cleaning
BY: Ada von Wannemaker
LENGTH: 1:06

This song is much faster than the two other songs with a folksy sound to it, a banjo starting to play first as Ada sings over it, her voice fast and excited sounding.

The sun came up above the strange white plain
Blood red flowers all wet with rain
And the spirit was not really willing anymore, but the flesh was very very strong
And I have got very little money left, and I have got no sense
But I will have none of your god damned impudence
The sun came up above the new white fields
Everything was new again
Pure power, stripped of meaning, sky burning, spring cleaning

The banjo slowly fades into an acoustic guitar as a drum starts playing with them, a fast beat, keeping the song fast and smooth, giving the sound less of a folksy sound, and more of an indie rock sound.

Daisies on the hillside like cancer on the skin
Pretty little yellow eyes that flutter in the wind
I would be grateful that my children are not here, here to see this
If you would ever see fit to give me children
And my defenses may be working with a skeleton crew
But I will be skinned alive before I take this from you
The sun came up above the ocean out west
All the colors of the rainbow

All the instruments fade out, and Ada's voice is left alone, singing, but practically speaking, the last two lines.

Stand up straight, you can see the house leaning
Day breaking, spring cleaning

Erich: isn't a tweeter sorta the same thing?

TITLE: When Death Came Calling (feat. Nichole Fischer)
BY: Ada von Wannemaker & Nichole Fischer
LENGTH: 1:45

There is an intro played by a string symphony, playing an almost stage musical intro, very dramatic and intense. The strings start to fade out, and a soft acoustic guitar comes in, playing the same dramatic melody as the stringed instruments were as Ada’s voice comes in, singing in a low, melancholy voice.

When death came calling today
I heard the gentle grace of his cadences
I could not say no
I could not say no

The guitar fades out as the stringed instruments come back in, playing the same melody as Nichole sings over them, her voice echoing Ada’s low style.

When he showed me his new silk scarves
Laid out on a shiny black plastic tray
Couldn’t say, couldn’t say, couldn’t say, couldn’t say, couldn’t say no
I couldn’t say no.

The acoustic guitar and strings mix together, both of them playing the melody, as Ada and Nichole sing the last verse together, their voices mixing perfectly.

And I am sorry I could not.
Do you know how badly I wanted to?
Did not want, did not want, did not want, did not want, did not want to lose you
But his smile was dazzling, mmm…
And his eyes were sparkling like moonlight on the water at midnight
Could not say, could not say, could not say, could not say, could not say, could not say
I could not say no

Fades out.
