WEEKEND'S FRONT MAN SHOCKINGLY QUITS THE BIGGEST POP BAND ON EARTHToday might actually be the saddest day in pop in years as the much loved curly haired lead singer of Weekend, Oscar Ward has quit the group over an hour ago. Reasons for his departure are unknown but many speculate that it was due to intense fighting between the group's members and Oscar felt as if he had to jump ship. The lovable pop star is said to have had 'problems' with his now ex-band 'mate', Billy Khan, as rumours have been recently circulating that the pair haven't been getting on lately and that there were many heated arguments between Ward and Khan over the past few months. However, this has not been officially confirmed by either of the singers nor has it been confirmed to us that this is the reason for his sad and sudden departure from the group. Millions of girls will be left heartbroken upon learning the shocking news.
Earlier today, Weekend went out to lunch with a producer they are working with on their second album to discuss some plans. Dustyn Blue tweeted that Oscar was 'taking forever in the toilet' during their time at the restaurant to which Billy Khan replied with a very unsavoury tweet. The reason behind the lengthy visit to the bathroom was in fact due to Oscar trying to pop the frame out of the window and leave the boys and his life as a million selling pop star behind. Reports say that Oscar called a taxi soon after and on the journey home he sent a text to his best friend, Scott Wellington, who then informed the other boys about the news. The staff were alerted to a disturbance in the male restroom and when they had arrived, the window had been smashed. According to producer that they were dining with, Priya Norwood, the text that Scott received went as follows;
Oscar Ward wrote:"Sorry Scott but I can't do this anymore. It's not how it was in the beginning, everything has changed. I wish I could have given you guys warning but......I don't know....I'm sorry mate. I'll give you a call later. I'm sorry about this. Tell the other guys I won't be returning, I don't think I can do it myself."
Weekend formed back in October 2011 after G2L member Lyrica Ocha decided to start up a project of her own whilst her girl band were on a hiatus. Lyrica then conjured up the idea of forming and managing a boy band as there were none around at the time and for once, the music industry and the charts were heavily dominated by females. She held auditions in hope of finding five young, attractive and extremely talented males to go on to form the group and little did she know how big her plans were going to become. Oscar was the first to be told he was accepted into the band followed by Dustyn Blue (who just so happens to be Lyrica's younger cousin). The third member to join the group was Billy Khan and was soon followed on by Scott Wellington, the eldest of the group. After much deliberation between which three boys should get the fifth spot, Riley Hamilton was then chosen to complete the band. These five strangers were suddenly thrown together and told to start writing and recording without knowing anything about one another. The boys attended extensive meetings and vocal lessons to help them out in the beginnings of their career. Slowly buy surely, Oscar and the other four members became best of friends and with time to get to know one another, write and record songs and find their signature pop/rock sound, the huge hit lovable, phenomenal, huge selling, hit making musical machine that is Weekend was born.
The group went on to achieve things that dreams are made of. Their debut single;
'Everything About You' went on to become one of the longest charting songs of the 21st century and hit the number two spot back in January 2012. The fast paced pop rock song caught on like wildfire and soon after, the whole world knew who these hyperactive little boys where. The second single that the group released,
'Smile About It', charted at the top spot which gave Weekend their first number one single and even more worldwide recognition. By the time their debut album and third single, both titled
'Fired Up', were released these boys were superstars and Oscar had the particularly hectic job of being the poster boy of the band. The sheer size of their fan base and massive success meant that everybody wanted a piece of Weekend and with Oscar being the lead singer a LOT of attention had been focused on him. Girls wanted to be with him, guys wished they were him. The world was taken over by Weekend Mania and Mr Ward was living the high life. During this time he also met his now fiancee, Eilidh Greene, as well as embarking on a sell out world tour, re-releasing Weekend's debut album which went on to top the charts like the original version and also release two more singles;
'Lock It Up' (Another number one, becoming their biggest selling hit to date) and
'Turn Up The Volume'.
(Happier Times: Oscar poses with his fellow band mates. One of the last shots taken of all five together)The amount of controversy surrounding his dramatic exit from the group and the huge focus on it will prove as no great difficulty for Ward as he is used to a lot of media attention. Oscar Ward and Eilidh Greene filmed a very explicit sex tape that left absolutely nothing to the imagination. Unfortunately for the couple, the tape leaked after their home was broken into and the whole world got a good 25 minute close up look of what he hides in his boxer shorts.
The future of the band is in jeopardy as their lead singer has now decided to take off. Oscar was a huge selling point in the group and has a huge fan base just to himself. Ward is the most followed member of Weekend on Twitter and many people claim he has the best voice of the group. Without Oscar, they will need to pick a new lead singer however this may prove difficult. Dustyn Blue has a strong and unique voice but it is very throaty and rich, causing people to either love it or hate it. Billy Khan has a powerful voice but needs some taming, Riley Hamilton possesses quite a strong voice too however it sometimes comes across as quite nasally. Scott Wellington on the other hand is known for having a very weak voice. Continuing as four will cause many problems but to bring in someone new would really cause Chaos. The original five boys are now iconic in the pop world and bringing in someone new would drastically change the image and many fans will see the new member as an 'intruder'.
So what do you think about all of this? What was Oscar's real reason behind leaving and what should the band do now? Are Weekend about to have a nasty fall from the top of the pop pyramid?
