BBC Radio 1   "BBC The Live Lounge Radio 1" (Radio Announcer Voice) Fearne Cotton: We are here with the beautiful and wonderful Stephanie Fierce. She's actually traveled all the way from Australia just to be here, and we appreciate her for that! How are you doing Mrs. Fierce?
Stephanie Fierce: I'm doing great Fearne (smiles warmly) I'm really excited to be here!
Fearne Cotton: You must be exhausted! How was Australia?
Stephanie Fierce: I'm on a strict schedule, but I go a ton of sleep on my way here, so I"m actually feeling refreshed. (smiles) But yeah... Australia was really beautiful, I really enjoyed the fans there, they're so full of energy and they really made the leg of the tour one not to forget.
Fearne Cotton: Amazing! First of all, I want to let you know that.... I've been waiting such a long time for you to stop by and do the live lounge. Our show has been really rubbish without you!
Stephanie Fierce: Thank you! Oh my god!(laughs)
Fearne Cotton: How's the new record coming along?
Stephanie Fierce: The new record is coming along great. Um.... there are a lot of great things happening in the studio at the moment that I can't speak of, so you can't ask specific questions... (smiles innocently)
Fearne Cotton: (interrupting) Wait.... you're still recording?
Stephanie Fierce: Yeah, I am. I actually won't be finished until like April. So er.... I'm really taking my time with this record. I think that's important. Plus, I'm on tour, so I'm constantly gaining inspiration and I kind of don't want to throw all that inspiration away for this record.
Fearne Cotton: Now you did mention in an interview that this new record "Immortal" is going to be a bit more poppy than your three previous albums. Before we even talk about the record, by more poppy, what do you exactly mean?
Stephanie Fierce: Well, with the exception of maybe a few songs, my last three albums have not really been "pop". All in the sense that the songs that I released leaned more towards the alternative non mainstream genres. Take "Dying in the Airwaves" as an example. That was totally something different and risky at the time for me, but it still managed to top both of the charts, which is a huge thing to do nowadays. That song however has a raw, emotional and simplistic guitar driven composition that people never thought I could make.

When you sing something like that, you don't expect it to be at the top of the charts the next day.
Fearne Cotton: Very true, but you've also had your successful pop records like "Back to Fierce" and that was pretty poppy, don't you think?
Stephanie Fierce: That's why I said with the exception of a few songs (laughs). Part of my artistry is to be versatile. I feel like one day I can make a record like "Free" and the other I can make a record like "Diary of a Pop Sinner". Having diversity in my music is what has allowed me to release records like "Liar" and records like "U and I = Suicide".
Fearne Cotton: Do you think that having all these number one records, takes away from the quality of them? People have this perception that once a record goes number one, it starts to lose its quality.
Stephanie Fierce: Yes, I've had more than a couple of #1's but that's because of my fan base. I'm not going to lie, I do feel like anytime one of my records tops the charts, I kind of feel a bit overrated in a sense (laughs) but that's because I try to be humble towards my music and I don't have expectations most of the time, especially knowing the record is not something mainstream. I think that part of the culture of music is to shock people and to bring out something that make people feel different. Indie was that outlet for me. However, fast forward to today and you see that everyone nowadays is trying to go "indie", and it's no longer an alternative genre because everyone's doing it. Don't get me wrong, I love Indie music, I've been doing it, but it's now becoming too predictable and it's ruining radio. It's like "look at me..... I'm indie now, so respect me". No. If anything, indie is the new pop.
Fearne Cotton: (laughs) As of late people seem to be given the chance to criticize you, but you never seem to have the chance to criticize anyone. How do you feel about the current state of the industry now? What is disappointing you?
Stephanie Fierce: Artists are once again becoming very predictable and in many cases it's not their fault. Not necessarily everyone, but people no longer seem to be taking risks in music and no one is really thinking outside the box because people are becoming too traditional with the way they release music. Which is why I kind of stepped back and stated doing my own thing. I feel very foreign sometimes because I have a whole different mentality when it comes to music. Part of me says that, but at the same, as long as you stay true to yourself, that's far more important. In the end though, it's important to not follow a trend, and start your own thing. A lot of artist unfortunately are far more worried about achieving their next number one hit single.
Fearne Cotton: How does all of this translate to making your new record?
Stephanie Fierce: Not that my goal is to always shock people, but I kind of wanted to explore new places I haven't been in pop music. I kind of wanted to start from where I left off from my last pop record. It's more poppy because it's more mainstream and it definitely caters to my pop fans. However, I don't feel like I have to go "indie" to make good records, I can be traditional and still make it unique and something different and that was the whole goal. I guess you can say that I want more hairbrush singing music, I want to dance more, I want to do things that I haven't done in a while. (laughs)
Fearne Cotton: Well, talking about your new record, the leading song, which is called Insane? You posted the lyrics on your official website, and people are already reacting to them. What inspired you to write such a track?
Stephanie Fierce: That song came from a very dark place. but it is very powerful and kind of like the ice breaker of the album. The way it came to me was that one day, I woke up and I felt like total shit. I was totally fed up with the whole media and with everything negative in my life and I just kind of let it all out on this song. At the same time, it's a song I really look forward to performing, because it's gonna make me dance. Dance hard. (laughs)
Fearne Cotton: You also have a music video coming out for the song! What can we expect?
Stephanie Fierce: Yeah, we shot the video about a month ago and I was in the middle of touring but it was very organized and we took a lot of time to make sure it was right. What I definitely love about this video, is that is has this sort of futuristic nostalgic feel to it. I dreamed of making a video like this for a very long time. A lot of dancing and a lot of attitude (laughs)
Fearne Cotton: Sounds awesome, can't wait to see it Steph. It sure sound like you have it all together! Aside from the new single, which by the way anyone who's listening, the song "Insane" will be premiering worldwide on the 17th of February, which is this Sunday! (claps)
Stephanie Fierce: Yay!! (Claps and laughs) I'm excited! (smiles)
Fearne Cotton: Are there any upcoming television performance?
Stephanie Fierce: There will be A LOT. Actually, there's something coming up soon and I'm gonna be heading to rehearsals...not tomorrow....but the day after, and I"m really excited. My new movie is also coming out in just two days so I"m very excited about that as well. There's a lot of pressure, but I love a little pressure (winks)
Fearne Cotton: Exciting, AHHH (claps fast)! Well.... we're just about getting done. Is there anything else you will like to say before we wrap up?
Stephanie Fierce: Yes actually, I will be coming back to the UK very soon for the History Revealed World Tour, I cannot wait to see my UK fans, I love you all! Keep it locked, cause things are about to be INSANE!
