VANITY PERFORMS AT THE BRIT AWARDS
If you just got done watching The Brit Awards 2013, you won't be surprised to hear that Vanity made a special appearance to premiere her brand new, never before heard single, titled "Come Alive". The eccentric star shocked fans and celebrities alike in the audience with her performance, and it's certainly not one that will be forgotten any time soon.
Appearing at the beginning with a decapitated head and dancing her way through a graveyard rave on stage with her head finally in place, Vanity certainly got the party going with the premiere of her new house track. The track serves as the lead to her tenth studio album, The Sound of Living, available next month.

After the presenter introduces Vanity, the lights in the arena shut off, sending the arena into darkness. A mix of heavy breathing and a loud, thudding heartbeat is heard, before a single spotlight shines down onto Vanity, who is seen holding her decapitated head, acoustically singing the opening line to the world premiere of her new single, "Come Alive". A few gasps are heard in the audience at the sight, as Vanity sings as if she's in pain, walking slowly from the main stage and down the catwalk. The spotlight follows her while she moves, smoke beginning to fill the stage, multiple tall, gothic candelabras fill the stage, gravestones seen sprawled out everywhere.
"Dig through the dirt and mend my broken bones
Heal this heart that's slowly turned to stone
Pull me out and put me back together
I just wanna live forever
Wake the dead that's been buried inside
Cause I'm ready to come alive
In this life, I will survive
Oh, I'm ready to come alive"
After opening the song with the chorus without any backing, she walks back down the catwalk, her head still held by her hands as the house inspired electronic beat to the song kicks in. Once she reaches the main stage, a group of male dancers rise up from the graves and stand all around her. They begin a fast-paced routine while she stands in the center of them as she belts out the pre-chorus powerfully, showcasing her strong, impressive vocals for the section to the best of her abilities, building the song up before its chorus, still only a spotlight on them all.
"And the years of pain may be hard to forget
But darling, there's no point in holding onto regrets
Just hush and smoke on that cigarette
And exhale all the madness in your head"
The music stops and the arena is suddenly plunged back into darkness for a short moment, her heavy breathing is heard once again. Suddenly, a burst of colourful lights flash back on and Vanity's head is seen in its correct position, going straight into the song's euphoric chorus, full of hard-hitting bass, unlike its acoustic version at the opening. She joins in with their previous routine while her vocals remain strong, whipping her long hair energetically as she dances.
Bright lights of various colours continue to surround the arena as she moves into the second verse, seductively laying back on one of the gravestones while singing, the track remaining upbeat and dance-oriented within its sound. Her dancers lift her back up and on top of another gravestone, Vanity begins to walk across a row of them, before she jumps down.
Vanity is lifted back up for the following pre-chorus by her male dancers, placing her into the position of Jesus on the cross, her legs straight and arms out horizontally, one of her dancers holding her microphone for her as she sings passionately. She closes her eyes every so often to hold a note, once again showcasing her voice.
"You used to place flowers at my grave
And visited me on every holiday
Placed your lips to my headstone
And resurrected life in my bones
That dead feeling soon faded away
Colour washed away the grey
And I rose up to see another day
Like Jesus himself, give me eternal life
Wake me up and make me feel alive
But like Jesus himself, you gave me eternal life
And you woke me up, made me feel alive"
Vanity follows with the next chorus, beginning to fiercely strut herself down the catwalk of the stage while her dancers stomp behind her. They all begin a dance routine once again, Vanity joins in with them for a while, before they all drop to their knees by the end of the chorus. Vanity and her dancers look up to the ceiling for a moment, before she begins to sing a more simplistic middle-eight that adds soft, relaxed violins into the mix, her vocals a lot more gentle than what was heard previously.
"Brothers and sisters
Preachers and teachers
Mothers and fathers
Dreamers and believers
Sons and daughters
Let's all rise
And come alive
Let's all revive
And come alive"
As she sings, her and her dancers slowly rise to their feet in sync with the last few lines. There's a slight pause, and the song bursts into its final chorus, as her and her dancers move further down the catwalk and to the second stage where an energetic dance routine is performed for the final time, silver and gold confetti raining down onto the majority of the crowd as she sings. At the end of the song, fireworks explode all around the stage and everyone drops to their knees once more. They stay in position for a moment, before Vanity rises to her feet and blows multiple kisses to the crowd, before leaving. |
