 Title: Don't Wanna Pretend Anymore Label: Independent Genre: Pop Length: 3:35 Writers: Allyson Grace Producer: James Diamond Released: February 19th 2013 "Don't wanna Pretend Anymore" is the debut single from singer/songwriter and Star Factory season 1 contestant Ashley Grimmie after Ashley finished the first season of Star Factory last year placing in 7th after being sent home by three of the five judges in a sudden death with her friends on the show The Devil You Know she had gone on tour with Alici Lena who was her mentor on the show after the tour Ashley had decided to take a little break from the public and focus on spending time with her family and friends she didn't take a break from music though she was posting videos on YouTube for awhile covering popular songs from artists like Isabel, Weekend and many others Ashley continued doing this for awhile she had made even more friends through YouTube like the writer of this song Allyson Grace who is also known for her YouTube videos of her singing originals and cover Ashley and Allyson had done a few covers together and became really good friends one day Allyson wrote a song that she thought would fit great for Ashley so she decided to give it to her Ashley checked out the song and instantly fell in love with the lyrics she took it to another friend of hers (James Diamond) who is a producer and he said he'd be up for helping her out with that so she hit the studio and recorded the song and fell even more in love with it after hearing the finished version she decided to try and release it independently as her debut into the music industry the song starts out with a piano being played very nicely but simply as well for awhile taking us back to her days on Star Factory where she was pretty much known as the girl with the piano until of course she decided to take a chance and got eliminated anyway the piano continues playing slowly before Ashley begins to sing in a very light and sweet voice as she went through the first verse she then got to the pre-chorus where the piano and her singing had gotten a little more intense as if building up for the chorus she then sang the chorus which wasn't too fast she still kept it slow but it was a little faster and much more intense than the verse she sang showing that more powerful side to her voice that people fell in love with on Star Factory she then finished the chorus and went back into the second verse the piano started playing like it was in the first verse again and she once again began singing in that softer and sweeter voice again that also made people like her on Star Factory she then returned to the pre-chorus which sounded the same again as it did the first time then made her way to the chorus which also sounded the same as last time she then stopped singing however the piano continued playing for a little she then made her way to the pre-chorus singing with a little more emotion and power before going back into the chorus she started it out singing soft and sweet more so than we heard in the verses the piano also was played softer and slower it then picked up again where she showed all of that power and emotion towards the end of the chorus sounding really amazing the piano then continued to play a little until it faded out and ended Ashley wrote:So here it is my debut single crazy right? I'm so excited for you all to hear this it took awhile I know and I still don't know if there'll be a full album out yet maybe though but still nothing official yet anyway hopefully this'll keep you guys happy for a little while I really love you all so much you're amazing and I couldn't ask for better fans and I'm sorry for being so sucky but yeah I'm going to try my best to get more music out for you guys soon hopefully but for now here's this it isn't a lot of production it isn't one of those dance songs with lots of synths and stuff all of that is good but it just isn't me maybe in the future I'll try it but right now I just want to do what I feel happy and comfortable with you may see this as a boring little ballad but I really love this song it and the way it came out I love ballads and I love emotional songs I put as much work and emotion as I could into this song plus if you know me I'm known for doing ballads with just me and my piano and that's pretty much what this song is I really love the lyrics to this song they were done by my best friend Allyson Grace she just came to me one day and was like "Hey Ash check this out I think you'll like it" and she was wrong I didn't like it I loved it so of course I had to record this anyway please check her out sometime she's so amazing and yeah just listen and enjoy thank you You come up to my door holding flowers in your Hand waiting for me to let you in but I don't think I can I've got a few things I must confess a couple things I need to get off my chest and it's gonna hurt I know oh yes I know I don't wanna see you cry but I gotta do what's right I don't wanna be the one who breaks you're heart but I don't wanna pretend that I'm in love

Abie: It's hard for someone who lost a talent show to comeback as a soloist and really make the dream come true, it needs a lot of courage and hard work and by the looks of this first single of yours, I see a lot of courage and hard work! I loved it! |
