Elvis Duran: Hey! Wake up everyone, this is the Elvis Duran and the Morning Show and we have a very special guest in the building with us. She is one of the fastest rising young singers in the industry, she has done everything from dancing to singing, designing clothes and now acting! She has a new single which she is debuting right here on our show this morning called 'Hide And Seek'. I heard it and I love it already, really good stuff. This young lady is truly one of my favorite people and artists, give it up for Miss Isabel Merjos!
Isabel: Hey guys, thank you for inviting me here, I love this show so much.
Danielle: Let me just say before this starts that I really love you Isabel and my sister's son has an obsession with you, it's really serious.
Isabel: (Laughs) Does he really? Thank you.
Danielle: Yes, it's really becoming a problem! He loves everything you do so I'm just warning you any weird stalker child coming after you might be him, just a warning.
Isabel: Oh wow, I'm still flattered though. (Laughs)
Froggy: That was so weird to admit to this poor girl, you probably scared her half to death now!
Isabel: No, it's alright. I've had a few crazy fans so I'm kind of used to it.
Elvis: That's still creepy right? Isn't it weird to have people just bug you all the time? They always want an autograph or take a picture of you eating, isn't that weird for you?
Isabel: Well to be honest, I'm still not used to it and I probably never will get used to having some grown man following me with a camera but it's all apart of the job right? I try to just go about my day as normal as possible.
Greg T: So you're not gonna punch any in the face like everyone else is what you're saying right?
Isabel: (Laughs) No, I would never do that. I would feel terrible!
Elvis: You are one of the few. (Chuckles) Before I forget, I was looking at some old pictures of when you came to the show last year and we celebrated your birthday with the cupcakes, you remember that? Because I still have a cupcake from it, really gross looking now.
Isabel: Do you really? I, sadly, ate all mine. Well I gave most of them away and had one. I loved that, it was beautiful. Do you still have that picture with my shocked face? That was hilarious. (Laughs)
Danielle: We do! And you looked so funny, but my nephew still loved you anyway. (Laughs) I think TJ still has a crush on you too, remember? He tried to sing 'Happy Birthday' to you and failed?
Isabel: (Laughs) I do, aww TJ. He's still my buddy though. We tweet each other, I mean a lot!
Elvis: I saw and let me tell you, you've probably made this man's whole life with your tweets. Did he ask you out yet?
TJ: No I didn't ask her out. It was a friendly set of tweets!
Isabel: No, he didn't, he was a gentleman and nope. (Laughs)
Froggy: He's afraid but it's okay because now you can talk to him and he'll just be in love.
Isabel: Aw, I feel bad now. TJ knows I love him.
Elvis: In other words, that's what she's supposed to say in order to be nice.
[Everyone laughs]
Elvis: Let's uh, let's get into talking about your album now. It was released a last year and it debuted #1 and it's still selling thousands of copies, it went Diamond a few months ago. It was also rated a 4.5/5 stars from Blurb magazine and it's a really amazing record if you still haven't heard it yet! You must be excited with all this right?
Isabel: I am! I am very fortunate to have some awesome fans who went out and bought the album and made it #1 and Diamond. I think every artist gets jittery when they release an album because you really have no idea what's going to happen. I had no idea it would do this well, honestly. I was so nervous about this record actually, and I took a lot of risks and it paid off.
Danielle: Did you jump around and scream when you found out?
Isabel: (Laughs) I did not, that day. I found out at like late in the morning so when I was told, I just kinda was excited about it but the next morning I really ran out of energy from the jumping and celebrating.
Elvis: How did you celebrate? Was there a big bash or just an intimate family thing?
Isabel: It was more of an intimate family thing. It was like I was with my family and Joey and we went out to eat and stuff. Nothing too crazy, no body shots or house parties, none of that Hangover types of celebration.
Froggy: That sounds like my weekend!
[Everyone laughs]
Elvis: Now, your boyfriend, Joey, you guys have been going out for how long?
Isabel: 2 years, almost 3, since we started dating, so yay. (Laughs)
Danielle: TJ is crying on the inside over here. (Laughs)
Elvis: 2 years? That's impressive considering the high break up rates. Some marriages don't even make it that long. So you guys, first off, how did you guys meet? Was it like right after that show, Celebrity Big Brother or was it during it?
Isabel: It was like right after. We kind kept in touch and just kept talking after it was over. I think he was the only one that I really talked to besides Hayden so yeah. We were just both kinda drawn to each other. I think we both kind of felt out of place there, which is what really brought us closer together.
Elvis: With all that hair and make up I'm sure he's not the same with you.
Isabel: He's actually really sweet but I guess it's to everyone else he's not so sweet. (Laughs)
Froggy: So he's not this insane, mean, douche like everyone thought he was?
Isabel: Nooo, he's far from it. (Laughs) He's probably the nicest guy I know.
Elvis: Well that's good to hear, don't believe the hype! Anyway, (Chuckles) so the awards, the Chaos awards came and passed, were you excited to be going and hosting? I know it's been so long since that happened.
Isabel: Yes! I was really looking forward to it. I always love awards shows anyway, they are so fun. I get to meet up with people that I've not gotten to talk to in so long so it's a really great experience. I never hosted a big show like that before so I was super nervous which is funny considering my career involves me performing on stage in front of thousands of people, (Laughs). But yes I was honored to have been chosen to be a co-host and I had a lot of fun.
Elvis: And you looked stunning, might I add, on the red carpet also.
Isabel: Thank you, aww! (Laughs)
Danielle: So you won a total of 2 awards, Best Female Artist and Best Album and then you also won for Best Collaboration with Jacob Estrada, first off congratulations for winning those. How do you feel about winning those awards?
Isabel: Thank you, so much. It was really a shock to me. I am forever grateful for being nominated for any type of award and it's just an added bonus to win. The only thing I don't like is giving acceptance speeches! I feel like I'm always babbling and saying the same thing over and over again but I love my fans so much so they deserve to always be recognized. I had a lot of tough competition so I was just persuaded there was no way I was winning.
Elvis: Were you more shocked then or when you won 'Sexiest Female' at the FCA's?
Isabel: Definitely 'Sexiest Female'. I've always thought I had the body of a pre-adolescent girl. (Laughs)
TJ: I don't think you have a bad body, I think that award was rightfully given.
Isabel: Well thank you TJ.
Froggy: Are you flirting with her? (Everyone laughs) She doesn't want you TJ, hang it up. I know it's tough.
TJ: I was paying her a compliment!
Danielle: He has an obsession, an obsession I am telling you! (Laughs) But it's kinda cute/annoying, it's adorable.
Elvis: Alright TJ, before you have a stroke, we're going to take a quick break and be back with some more Izzy and while you're enjoying a break from this awkward conversation that it's becoming, enjoy some music!
['Alive' by Krewella plays before going back to the show]
Elvis: Welcome back to the show, that was 'Alive' by a trio that goes by the name Krewella! We're here with Izzy and she will be debuting a new single on air for you guys, later on but for now we're going to chat with her and catch up. So you won big at the awards, you've been filming a movie, am I right? And you also have the show Sweet Unknown which you've been filming while on tour, how did that go?
Isabel: Mhm. I've been filming for a few months already and we've gotten a lot done, it's moving along smoothly so hopefully it will be out by the end of this year. The show has been so amazing, it's really allowed me to come out of my shell and grow as a person and even as an artist. Acting is one of my other passions, I love it.
Elvis: You play a character by the name of Olivia, can you tell us more about her and what it was like filming?
Isabel: Well um, I got to work with some pretty big actors and actresses who I've never worked with before like Nadia Berry, Ryan Ross Hernandez, Isaac Lovelock, Cristina Lake, Arianna Harley, and etc. My character, Olivia, is somewhat like me I would say. She's a young actress in Hollywood and she's really carefree, naive, loves to have fun. Her idol is Nadia's character, Emma Moore, and the two have a protege type relationship really. She can be really difficult and she has some issues of her own, but I promise it's definitely gonna be some exciting and shocking stuff. There's definitely going to be some shocked faces and there's an unbelievable end I can't wait for everyone to see either. I had a blast shooting the show and getting outside my comfort zone.
Elvis: You're also working on a movie, what's that about?
Isabel: I am, It's been fun. I got to shoot with two of my best friends, Ansley and Veronica. I don't wanna give away too much but It's got some Comedy, some Romance, some Action, there's a little something for everyone to see but it's something I've wanted to try to get back into which is acting. I've learned I was a little rusty but it worked out. We have been filming that for a few weeks and it's just been a blast.
Froggy: How would you rate yourself in this movie? Are you like a Mariah Carey 'Glitter' bad? Or are you like a Kate Winslet 'Titanic' good?
Isabel: I'm going to go with 'Titanic' but maybe not as good as an actress like Kate. (Giggles)
Froggy: Safe answer! (Chuckles)
Elvis: Now what type of movies are you into, like what's your favorite movie?
Isabel: Oh wooow, there's so many movies I love. I have a weak spot for Romance movies and Horror movies. I think those two are the best genres because so many things can come from a horror movie. I can't say I have a favorite because there's just too many I love. Everyone knows though, The Wizard of Oz is in my top 3, amazing movie.
Danielle: I knew it! You look like a Judy Garland girl.
Isabel: Haha, thank you. I'm guilty.
Elvis: Now we know you just finished touring all over the world and you just got back home a few days ago but you were so gracious enough to come here and drop us a visit and new single. Now as I said earlier, we all heard the single and we're in love with it because it's completely different than any single you've come out with, right?
Isabel: Right. It's not a dance track that everyone knows me for, it's really.....out there I think. It was a different direction than I had previously went to but I loved it and I love this single so much.
Elvis: Now what is the song about really?
Isabel: The song is about being lost and confusion. I chose this single to be my last single from this album because I'm going through a transitional period in my life and in my music. Jason Smith produced the track along with Phil N and they really created an incredible sound. The song is like what do I do now? You know, like, Okay, I've had all this success now what? Do I continue down the same path that got me this success or do I take a risk and go somewhere else? It's like waiting for the next thing to happen or waiting for someone to come along and you have to find it or them, like a game of hide and seek. So in the song, she's lost and feels stranded like at a crossroads which I think all artists sort of go through when they get done with an album. How do I make my next album better than my last? How do I amaze myself with my music now? It's just the hook before the era.
Greg T: That's very well thought out. I think so many artists just release stuff to stay relevant or whatever but you seemed to actually thought this out.
Isabel: Well yes, I thought this out and it's the reason it took so long for me to choose the single. I wanted to end this album on a good note and with the best song I felt like could just wipe my palette clean and give me another chance to create new music.
Danielle: What type of music do you listen to these days? Do you listen to your own music?
Isabel: I do, when it comes on the radio. (Laughs) I'm really in to Rap lately, I think I've been listening to that more than anything. I still love my Pop music and Rock. I'm a big fan of Macklemore, Drake, 2Chainz, Rihanna, Paramore. I just recently got into The Weekend, such an amazing artist and lyricist. I listen to a variety of music.
Elvis: Alright, I think it's that time. Izzy, would you like to do the honors?
Isabel: Thank you, alright Izzybells, this is for you. I am very proud to announce my new single for you guys to hear, the first time on radio, 'Hide And Seek'! I hope you all enjoy it!
['Hide And Seek' starts to play on the radio and then goes back to the show]
Elvis: There you have it, Izzy's new single 'Hide And Seek'! I tell you, I listen to it over and over, I love it every time. This was an outstanding single.
Isabel: Thank you so much, it really means the world that you think so. I'm excited it's out now! I can't wait to get the video out next week either.
Danielle: TJ wants to know if there will be any nakedness in this video? (Laughs)
TJ: I did not even say anything.
Isabel: (Laughs) You never know....I mean you'll just have to see. It's a really great video, it's like a mini movie, storyline and everything, really awesome.
Elvis: I can't wait to see it! You just came from touring, I know you must be exhausted and yet you never seem to sit still long. I don't know how you do it, I would have been dead a long time ago. You just travel so much and you're always working on something.
Isabel: I love to travel! I know, I've been trying to relax a little but I do work a lot. I find most of the time I'm really relaxed when I'm working. It just feels right and I love it. I don't take it for granted, not one second. In the summer, I plan on releasing my Summer collection for BeYOU and then taking a mini break. I definitely know when I'm reaching my limit and I want to be healthy and happy.
Danielle: Nice, you work really hard. I swear I see you every where sometimes.
Elvis: Are you like the breadwinner for the Merjos family now?
Isabel: Breadwinner? I think we all bring something into the family. (Laughs)
Greg T: Are you going to be the one to uphold the Merjos name? Did Hannah and Hayden just quit?
Isabel: Hannah's more into being a mother right now. She had the twins and she enjoys being at home with them. She is writing though so I know she'll be back soon and Hayden also. He loves being at home right now but he's been recording for a new album and I've heard some of it, it's really good guys. I think with our music, you'll see how mature and versatile we're sounding. I know Hayden has this whole soulfullness in his music like never before and Hannah has so much emotion in her song that's really personal for her. I just hope my music in the future can be a sign of my growth as well. We're all pretty much adjusting to life right now.
Danielle: I just want you to make more music already! (Laughs) I can't wait. So in your break will you and Joey being going away somewhere?
Isabel: Umm....we haven't really decided. I kind of like being at home right now with my family. I would enjoy just being at home and watching television all day as a break. Maybe do a little shopping, hang at the beach, BBQ's with my family, that sounds good.
Danielle: And I just recently got engaged so maybe I can see you with a ring too maybe?
Isabel: I see that! It's just so flashy over here! (Laughs) I don't know, we're happy with our relationship where it is right now. So far everything has been natural and nothing forced which I feel is better than rushing into something just because, you know? Oh my god, I can't tell you how many tweets I see that people want me to have babies or get married. I'm like 'They have my life planned out in their heads right now, my goodness' It is so funny though. I just laugh it off with Joey. I always tell him 'Maybe tomorrow, who knows!'
Elvis: I for one, support your choice to not rush. I believe you are young, you're only 20 years old, you have your whole life ahead of you, you have a lot of years of your career to get out of the way and I think you're doing wonderful. You're an upstanding role model for young women everywhere.
Isabel: Thank you so much. I really, really appreciate that. I'm just trying to encourage girls younger than me and my age that we can become an important part in the world.
Elvis: You are doing a fine job at that. We need to do this again sometime, it's been really fun. We're glad you stopped by to debut your song here.
Isabel: No problem, I had a blast. I listen to you guys all the time and It was a pleasure! Thanks for all the fans listening and you can download 'Hide And Seek' on iTunes right now!
Elvis: Alright, Izzy everyone! When we come back, we're going to talk about this whole North Korea...thing we have going on with America.
Danielle: And then we'll get into our top 5 song requests with a new #1 song, sorry Vanity you were knocked out of the top spot this week!
Elvis: But right now, enjoy some Abie Lena with 'You Make Me Die'!
Written By: Isabel Merjos Produced By: Jason Smith, Phil N. Length: 4:03 Genre: Synthpop, Dream Pop, New Wave Song Description:Probably the shortest song on the album (lyrically) Hide and Seek is one of the different sides of Izzy we get to see, as she explores with a new sound and a new producer in Jason Smith. The almost unthinkable pairing worked together to create this almost dream like sound that we hear on this track. Starting off with a throbbing synthesizer and added effects, the song catches the attention of many music lovers. The variety of sounds that are incorporated into the track give it a different sound that most likely hasn't been heard by any other pop star today. Izzy's low sultry vocals are almost haunting and depressing in this song, as it continues. The slow and almost dragged out lyrics suggest that she is waiting for something that doesn't come. The added instrumentals in between each verse of the song by the saxophone also gives it a haunting sound with her added vocals in the back that sound as if she were fading away. Izzy takes the time to explore with other sounds on this track, giving her a more different feel than her rather dance aura. Teaming up with legend Jason Smith, was perhaps one of the most unpredictable collaborations that's happened in the history of music. Although the two have seemingly made an undeniably amazing track, it only draws the question if the two of them could possibly lend vocals for a song and give off the same effect? Nevertheless, Hide and Seek is new, different, and unexpected from the pop teen.Quote:"This is probably another one of my stand out tracks on the album. It's probably one of the different sounding because it's not like anything else on the album which is good I hope. It's one of those odd songs that doesn't really have a deep meaning or anything behind it but you can give it one if you wanted to. To me, I wrote it to be intended to be about waiting. Mostly, it's about waiting for someone and not finding them so it's almost like a game of hide and seek. I wrote this all by myself in like 2 hours and then Gia was like at a loss at how to produce this. She then called in a friend to help and I was shocked at who it was also. When I heard that Jason Smith was going to be producing the single I was super excited because I had never worked with him before and he is a legend in the music industry.
Our work behavior was normal. He was really nice and sweet and he was focused so it helped a lot for him to help me. His sound was different than what I expected for the single but looking back, it fits perfectly now. It has a sort of dreary feeling but it also has a dreamy feeling to it. He's really easy to work with and he is definitely a master when it comes to making music because he's always been different and always just so innovative, so I'm grateful we got to work together and create such a song like this. The saxophone in this song is amazing and the solo is just out of this world. I've found a new love in saxophones after this (Smiles) and I find myself more appreciative in music when I worked on this album. It's just a really great track that I hope everyone enjoys."
LyricsStranded in the water Waiting to go ho-o-ome The time goes by I'm feeling all alone, Oh no-o-o
Stranded in the water Waiting to go ho-o-ome Not knowing when I'll go-o-o Hide and Seek in the dark
Playing with my life (Li-i-ife) Hoping that you'll still find the time Laying in the blind It still probably haunts your mind (Mi-i-i-ind!)
Stranded in the water Waiting to go ho-o-ome Stranded in the water Waiting to go ho-o-ome Stranded in the water Waiting to go ho-o-ome Stranded in the water (Stranded in the wa-a-a-ater) Waiting to go ho-o-ome Stranded in the water Hide and Seek in the dark
