Sammy GriffinFull Name: Samuel Griffin
DOB: 28th Februaury 1992
Roles: Guitar, Sung Vocals, Piano, Rapped Vocals
Influences: Aaron Marks, Ed Sheeran, Charlie SimpsonSamuel Griffin, the youngest of three children, was born on the 28th of February 1992 - making him 21 years old now. He was born in Halifax, West Yorkshire, but grew up with his two older sisters - Lily and Rose - in London after his family moved to the area with his Dad's work promotion.
The Griffin family lived very comfortable lives, and the children never went without having all of the things they could ever want and need, so Sammy was always involved in all sorts of activities which kept him busy and out of trouble. His one true passion was singing though. Living in a house with two older sisters, Sammy would spend countless hours singing away with them. Rose had always been jealous of Sammy's voice, she had wanted to be a professional singer and it upset her to know that her little brother was 2 years younger than her and could already sing a whole lot better! She would regularly tell him that he was no good, and eventually it got to the stage in which he would no longer sing. He loved and trusted her, so if she said he wasn't good enough to be singing around the house, he wasn't good enough to be singing at all!
At the age of 12, Sammy needed to find another outlet, and as music was his passion and he no longer felt he could sing, he decided to take up guitar. This came naturally to him - in fact most musical instruments did! Sammy doesn't regularly stray from guitar, but he has been known to give the piano a go every once in a while.
Sammy's grandmother was due to turn 70 at a similar time to him turning 14, so his mum asked him to prepare a song for her to perform in front of everyone as a little bit of birthday entertainment. He had never really liked his grandmother, but did as his mother said, not wanting to cause a fuss. So he wrote a little tune for the guitar and practiced and practiced until it was perfect. On the day he performed to perfection - that is until his grandmother stopped him half way through! She stopped him to ask why he was not singing too? That had been what she had hoped for! She loved to hear his voice, it made her feel warm and happy inside. At this point Sammy trusted his instincts and decided that he must pursue his dreams of becoming a singer, no matter what his sister Rose seemed to think!
Not long after Sammy turned 17, he moved right into the City Centre with a friend. This made it easier for Sammy to start up in London and to do all of the Open Mic Nights and the club circuits. His fan base steadily built up, so much so that within a year he had a large enough following for him to consider actually recording some of his own songs to sell as an EP at his gigs. His first release was the
Bad Blood EP, released in September 2010. This was quite a popular EP for Sammy's followers, and spread like wildfire. With the release, more and more people started attending his gigs - word of mouth really is the best form of advertising!
As Sammy neared his 18th birthday, he recorded
The Red One EP. This had four full tracks and two demo tracks, and would regularly sell out at gigs. His ever growing fanbase allowed him to have his first ever sell out show on June 11th 2012, and has since started playing larger gigs. After this EP, Sammy's gigs started to get a lot more attention on the mainstream, and he was asked to come into SB.TV to do an interview and to record a version of his song
Please Don't Go. Almost as soon as that hit the airwaves, he had record labels fighting for his signature, and ultimately Studio 60 Records won, offering him a one album deal.
Sammy then proceeded to record
The Griffin EP; this had four tracks and a live version of
Bad Blood at the end. This saw his appeal sky-rocket even further, and before he knew it he was being nominated for Chaos Awards as Best Newcomer and performing at the Fans Choice Awards! After his continually growing success, he joined his good friend Aaron Marks on the
TrendingTopics Tour and traveled the UK. He then proceeded to travel Europe on Cinzia Ricci's tour.
2012 became a fairly quiet year, with Sammy appearing to have dropped off the face of the earth, but family tragedy has struck and his older sister Lily died in child birth. This truly hit the family hard, and so they all took some time off and stuck together through the tough times. Now the worst appears to be over, Sammy is back, more motivated to succeed than ever before!
