Erica:aw,Carmen. If I could,I would totally share my dad with you. He always admired artists and musicians,as he lacked those skills.

Nina:"share your dad"? Isn't that what woody Allen did, love? Is it an Asian thing?

Erica: don't be foul!

Title: Pet
Artist: Carmen Grant
Label: Independent - No label
Genre: Indie rock, indie pop

Pet

The last song on the EP, and also the title song of the EP, is a bit of a step out from what the two original songs were. Of course, Carmen Grant stays with her indie folk roots, but the song takes on a much more indie-rock, or even indie-pop feeling to it, incorporating more instruments and a more alive energy to it than the previous two songs did. Not only does this last song show that Carmen Grant's song writing ability can go beyond a simply folksy plucking of the strings, but it also shows that Carmen's sound (the generally indie folk sound) is something that she will be sticking with, and that there won't be any music identity crisis from her any time soon.

The song "Pet" could be called a continuation of the song "Sweet Little Duck" in both it's lyrical meaning and sound. In "Sweet Little Duck," Carmen sings about being stuck in this relationship with a neglectful significant other -- In this song, Carmen could be singing about that same significant other, and her now regret for leaving.

Quote:
"Carmen feels like that's a normal thing after a break up, especially if you're the one to break up with that person. There will always be at feeling, at first, of wondering if you did the right thing... That's what this song is about."

The previous song talks about how it was the significant other's fault that Carmen and their relationship fell apart, which in this one, as that regret starts to sink in, Carmen takes responsibility for the break-up, saying that she would understand if her significant other cheated on her (take it from me, move out on me), and that she had been the problem all along (I only weigh you down). In the second verse, there's a quick change of feeling as Carmen goes back to a "Sweet Little Duck" sense of accomplishment, singing about leaving and doing the right thing, but she immediately goes right back into her regret after admitting that she's high, and needs either her significant other or the pills to feel alright anymore (Pop some pills to feel the same / Could you make it alright?).

Oh, pet, I waited too long
The phone rang three times, but you were gone
Take it from me, move out on me
I only weigh you down

And I'm not so dumb, I can take a hint
Gave you forty-eight hours, and then I split
Now I'm high on the road, trying to get home

I want my bubble car
Took the turn and drove too far
I want my airplane
Pop some pills to feel the same
Could you make it alright?

Magie: Certainly 'Pet' is my favorite, First the sound, which are way more elaborated than the first two songs of the EP but it kept your musical identity. The lyrics is something apart, I relate to it like I relate to a rainy day and I'm lying in my bed wondering all the facts that lead me to certain situations that a break up brings to your life. I loved it, good job!
