Genre: Indie rock, alternative country, folk-rock, americanaSweet Little DuckCarmen starts off her debut EP with a song that is Carmen's sound, in a nutshell. It's a song about, as Carmen described it "being sick and tired of being sick and tired in a relationship." She describes her days of drinking and sleeping to make them go faster in the first verse (which is an entire verse that is completely just Carmen Grant singing with a guitar being played to keep the tempo with her). Carmen's personality, though not one that is scene in the celebrity news as much, is very unique (Carmen often talks about herself in the third person, and has a very giggling and overly excited personality). Carmen continues to show us in this first song that she isn't like every other girl out there.
Quote:"There are so many songs out there by women who are saying, 'Oh! My lover is so mean to me, but I'm probably going to sit here and take four or five more years of abuse before I do anything about it!' No. No. That's not Carmen's style."
Carmen spends the third verse of the song telling her abusive and neglective significant other that she's leaving and that he better not come after her. Rather than sit in the painful relationship, Carmen shows that she's the type of strong woman that would leave and try to fix her own life before trying to fix a failed realtionship in the first place.
The song features a very earthy feel to it as Carmen Grant takes this first chance to show off not only the sound that she generally features in her music, but also to show off her substantial range in voice. Her notes go from the lower register, such as in the beginning when it is just merely her and a guitar playing, to the very high register, such as when she is singing with two (also high ranged) backup singers in the choruses.Sweet little duck, I'm waiting

erich: there is no one quite like carmen. i've followed her tweets and now i hear her music. it is exactly how you would have it pictured. not the sort of thing you want to crank as you drive around on cheap crank. more like a quiet evening at home,glaring at the neighbors. i can see carmen running a petting zoo where bad people make a one way trip. once those little ducks have a taste for human flesh....watch out! |
