The End Stars Now

‘The End Starts Now’ is the third studio album by Brazilian born singer-songwriter Abie Lena. The album will be released on June 9th, 2013 on iTunes and as a physical CD worldwide by Studio60 Records. After a half year break from music to recover her health from a severe case of diabetes, The lead single of the album, "You Make Me Die", managed to hit the number one spot on both main single charts, digital and airplay.

Musically, The End Starts Now is a new jazz / pop album that derives characteristics from such musical genres as alternative hip hop, trip hop, indie pop, MPB former Brazilian music genre and R&B. It was entirely recorded on Brazil, where Abie spent most of her time last year after she checked out from a luxury Rehab center in Miami. Lyrics are a mix of all the feelings Abie was going through when she felt that she was about to die, this also makes allusion to the name of the album, as Abie declared that, she felt like her time was coming and that the end for her was near.

Production credits went to former Studio60 owner Gia Rose-Hilton who signed the executive production of the record. Rick Rubin, long time Abie’s collaborative partner, also took part on writing and composing in several songs of the record. Abie invited former Brazilian singer-songwriter Arnaldo Antunes to work on the album too, also Tisha Jackson, Magie Lena, Lilly Stuart took credits on writing and Tisha also sung a duet with Abie.

Main promotion for the album includes some TV performances, a Vanity Fair cover plus a special documentary about Abie’s recent life events. Abie will be supporting Tisha Jackson on her ‘The Highway to Redemption’ world tour, in the USA and Europe Legs.

1. Dead for a Reason (Feat. Tisha Jackson)
Released: April 26th, 2013
Format: Digital Download, Airplay
Recorded: 2012
Genre: Alternative Hip Hop, Trip Hop
Length: 3:50
Label: Studio60
Writers: Abie Lena, Tisha Jackson, Gia-Rose, Lilly Stuart
Producers: Gia-Rose, Abie Lena

First song on the album introduces a new sound for Abie, with ambition she invited Tisha Jackson to sing with her right at the very first song of the record, leading her fans to a new world of dramatic melodies and over produced sounds.

The Song was produced in the alternative hip hop and trip hop genres. It first starts with and orchestral violin and choir and on its background can be hear fireworks till it breaks down to a Hip Hop bass beat. The main structure of the song is composed of various sounds and instruments, mixing hip hop and trip hop elements with orchestral sounds. In the chorus, Abie and Tisha half-sing, half-raps the lines. Abie employs an alternative rapping technique (probably influenced by the presence of Tisha Jackson on the writings of the song) sung above a hip hop beat and heavy bass lines, it sounds like Abie or Tisha were almost "chatting".

Other elements presented on the song are the choirs, loudly on the choruses of the song and harmonies provided by the duet which both of the singers are performing throughout the song. The singers also add ironical tones to their voices, but they also sound somehow morbid, especially because of the trip hop sounds among the other sounds in the song.

Lyrics are about someone who comprehends that its death is closer and so this person starts to ask himself about things that were done, when this person was alive, that weren’t good enough to leave a mark or even make other people remember its life. But at the same time the song also talks about the wish of each human to make a difference in the world, this is represented when the line ‘Tell them I died for a Reason’ is sung.

Quote:
‘This song serves as an introduction to the timeline of the album. It also introduces this new sound me and Gia created for this record which I’m very proud of. I always had the wish to work with Tisha, she’s an icon, she’s being in this business as far as I know and she’s still reliable and successful and she has a great talent too. By the time we first met, I must say it was love at first sight. This song is a very generic theme song, I believe that we all fear death and that’s what this song is talking about. Dealing with these thoughts are a matter of life, I’ve been closer to be dead last year and that influenced my writing and it’s reflects on songs like this one. In fact even the album’s name reflects what I’ve gone through. I don’t know if I could ever be different, I don’t know if could ever write a song about something I didn’t experienced or lived. In this particular song, I was taken by the fear of leaving this world and not made the difference I wanted to do. It’s like we have a journey and we don’t know exactly why we’re here but we have a purpose and I think that maybe I have found mine through music, but is it enough for me to be remembered, that’s the line I followed to write this song.’

Lyrics

Abie
Tisha
Both

Clock is ticking and the silence
As I’m drawing my fate in this absence

When love isn’t enough
Alone you can’t hold on
Your faith is vanishing on what is coming next

The sky is falling
Days are browning
Kids are watching the black parade pass

Inside my heart I feel desperation
And desolation
I breathe with the air of the night
Can you make me a speech when I die?

Tell them I lived with dignity
Forget the ups and downs, don’t let them know my vows
Tell them I lived with integrity
Forgive my deviations, hide my indiscretions
Tell them I was a good girl
Everyone will believe if you say the words
Tell them I died for a reason

Clock is ticking and the silence
I now cross the limits of our existence

Skin is turning cold
They dig a deep hole
There, they’ll throw out my soul

Through generations there’ll be declarations
Of my legacy and my intimacy

I can’t hear your voice, but I hear a noise
It says I must go
But before, can I tell them how it’s the end?
Well, It seems I can’t be more resistant…

Tell them I lived with dignity
Forget the ups and downs, don’t let them know my vows
Tell them I lived with integrity
Forgive my deviations, hide my indiscretions
Tell them I was a good girl
Everyone will believe if you say the words
Tell them I died for a reason

Don’t be afraid my friend
Death is not the end
It’s a new start for a new age

Worries and duties, stories of ruins
If you say I’ll stay, If you ask I’ll pray
But my soul is leaving my body today
Oh it’s not so sad
No you don’t need to despair
Sell my things, sell my rings
Unhook yourself, sell my wealth
But keep my photo in your wallet

Clock is ticking and the silence
I’m watching you even though the distance

Don’t think I’m crazy
‘Cause I just see the haze
They came to get me

My last wish is
For you to live
Hear no sound from cardiac monitor

Tell them I lived with dignity
Forget the ups and downs, don’t let them know my vows
Tell them I lived with integrity
Forgive my deviations, hide my indiscretions
Tell them I was a good girl
Everyone will believe if you say the words
Tell them I died for a reason

Love isn’t enough
Alone I can’t hold on
Far away goes my soul

Love isn’t enough
Alone I can’t hold on
Far away goes my soul

Love isn’t enough
Alone I can’t hold on
Far away goes my soul

Love isn’t enough
Alone I can’t hold on
Far away goes my soul

2. You make me die **

Released: March 26th, 2013
Format: Digital Download, Airplay
Recorded: 2012
Genre: Indie pop
Length: 4:46
Label: Studio60
Writers: Abie Lena, Gia-Rose, Rick Rubin
Producers: Gia-Rose, Rick Rubin

It was written and composed by Abie Lena, Gia-Rose and Rick Rubin and it was produced by Rick Rubin and Gia-Rose. The song features dramatic theatrical lyrics about a no corresponded love where Abie struggles due to her feelings for someone who didn’t care about her. According to the singer, the song is "About the desperate feelings of someone wishing to love again, but it also can represent the fear of me dyeing without living a long love story”. A lot of themes in this album are about her fear of death, once she already said that she felt death approaching her in a young age, so she made several analogies of seeing herself dyeing without living situations along the time she wishes to live.

Production of the song started in October of last year and Abie said that she was working on something more dramatic and theatrical than her previous work, this is literally perceived in the first melodies of the song which are composed of violins and electronic ambient sounds plus orchestral percussion, also Abie is singing in an all new style, with melodic vocals and performing lyrical notes.

There’s an intonation of apocalyptic sensations throughout the song, another way of Abie to represent her death fears from the days she was in the rehab.

Quote:
‘This song came out in a moment where I kind of had felt in love for this doctor who was taking care of me, but he didn’t show he was interested in me and in fact I noticed that he was gay after a couple of months we spend together as friend, so whatever were the feelings I was feeding for him, it was useless, because he would never ever be with me. I kind of was feeling lonely and fragile, so it was a chock for me to perceive that he was not carrying about me, the way I was carrying about him. Again the death analogy is here, I couldn’t escape from that, anything that was happening with me I was comparing it in my mind with death and all that it brings with it. I admit I was annoying, the most boring person in the world, it’s like when you face a situation where you have to be strong and confident and believe that you will recover yourself, I was devastated and lazy and weak and the only way I found to express myself without bother anyone else was making music, so most of the songs in this album will deal with death and life and sadness and all of that, I guess that in the end is just who I am, I was not made to sing about lullabies and happy worlds, anyway.’

Lyrics

Fear took over me now
Blood is all over this doubt
Everytime a new opportunity appears
Sooner I’ll see crystal clear
See myself on the ground
Please can you be sweeter
I’m not asking you to lie
I’m just not prepared to stand or to hear
Let me deal with me from here
And maybe I can survive
From your indifference

You don’t want me, you don’t love me
And I’m a fool of waiting you in this make believe
Love hurts so much, death is near to approach
I’m sorry if you feel pushed I didn’t mean to have this crush

Let me taste your pity in my lips
Let me hear your contempt in my ears
I want you anyway
Don’t make me beg, don’t make me creep
‘Cause every word

You make me die

Drained my last drop of hope
Around my neck you pull the rope
As I go deeper in your world
Slowly I’m losing my soul
Guess my life had been stole
By yourself honey

You don’t want me, you don’t love me
And I’m a fool of waiting you in this make believe
Love hurts so much, death is near to approach
I’m sorry if you feel pushed I didn’t mean to have this crush

Let me taste your pity in my lips
Let me hear your contempt in my ears
I want you anyway
Don’t make me beg, don’t make me creep
‘Cause every word

you make me die
you make me die
you make me die

Let me breathe your absent air
Let me touch your cold heart in this lair
I want you anyway

You don’t deserve me, you don’t need me
And I’m a fool of waiting you in this make believe
Love hurts so much, death is near to approach
I’m sorry if you feel pushed I didn’t mean to have this crush

Let me taste your pity in my lips
Let me hear your contempt in my ears
I want you anyway
Don’t make me beg, don’t make me creep
‘Cause every word

you make me die
you make me die

3. Epitaph
Released: June 9th, 2013
Format: Digital Download, Physically
Recorded: 2012
Genre: New Jazz, Soft Rock
Length: 2:40
Label: Studio60
Writers: Abie Lena, Gia Rose-Hilton
Producers: Gia-Rose

A new jazz drum sequence serves as the main base for this song. Other instruments such as sax, piano, violin and guitar are added to the melody as the song goes along its timeline. The melodies transmit a softer sensation compared to the first two songs of the album, it is softer and smoother and even happier. But all the kindness sensation keeps only in the track melodies.

It was written by Abie and Gia, and it was produced by Gia alone. The song reminds us of what Abie used to do with her previous two albums, probably it was included in the track listing of this album as a form to keep Abie’s identity untouched even though the direction for this album is way more pop than what she ever did before.

If we pay attention on its lyrics, it’s about a defunct who refuses to accept its own death. In the begging of the song, Abie revealed that this defunct is already being veiled, but the dead person refuses to be dead and even argues with everyone who’s there to veil him, claiming that he still has so many things to be done and that he thinks he is alive. It has such an ironic tone which is even increased due to the loosely happy melodies.

By the end of the song the defunct accepts its condition at last ending all doubts and so the melodies finished instantly with Abie’s final lines. It’s a fresh feeling for the album so far, Gia knows how to keep a mood without making it sound incoherent and exhausted by the people who are listening the album.

Quote:
‘Gia brought me this sarcastic melodies and told me to write a happier song, believe me I was writing heavy dark songs, it was too much, anyway, I started to think about this dead person who refuses to die. So I started out describing how would it be the funeral of this person and what this person would feel with all those people veiling her and she was there lied but still alive, somehow. I loved to work with Gia, she pushes us to our limits and that’s a good thing, she said once to me that if we would ever make this record, it had to be perfect and that I needed to trust on her instincts and ideas, even though some of them would go against what I was feeling at that moment, and she was right I would never be able to write a softer song like this, so I’m very glad she took part in this album and helped me go over my limits.’

Lyrics

Chrysanthemum’s smell
Numb the air of the night
But I’m not dead yet
People crowd the Chappelle
Can’t they see I’m alive?
Well I'm not sure about that

I’m not ready to pass away
I still have to do so many things

And in my epitaph
Will they write I was fair?
Well I don’t know if anyone cares

I’m too young to die for this disease
But my time is passing away to grieve

Will you miss me when I pass away?
Will I leave behind things important?

If I die tonight I just want you know
That after so long I still love you so

But my time is ticking away to grieve
My time is passing away to grieve

4. Little Star
Released: June 9th, 2013
Format: Digital Download, Physically
Recorded: 2012
Genre: Soul Pop
Length: 4:49
Label: Studio60
Writers: Abie Lena, Rick Rubin
Producers: Gia Rose-Hilton, Rick Rubin and Abie Lena

This is a ballad, composed in the soul pop genre. In the song, Abie sings over a string-drenched, piano-driven melody produced by herself, Rick Rubin and Gia Rose-Hilton. It has an audible inhalation accompanying the songs melodies in the beginning of it, later this inhalation disappears giving space to Abie’s husky and passionate vocals. It’s another song that reminds us of the old Abie, especially that one from the ‘Seasons’ album era.

Lyrically, the song was written by Abie and Rick Rubin. In the song, Abie sings about searching for love while she sounds desperately and tired of being alone. She also alludes that she’s talking to God as if she was praying, it is perceived in the first lines of the song. She uses analogies such as the cold weather to ask for someone to warm he up, this also reminds us from her last album where she frequently called herself cold enough to fall in love. There’s a point where she expresses her physical need to smoke a cigarette, she said once that she could never stop her relationship with cigarettes.

There’s a switch on the theme of the songs from here on, while Abie spent the first three songs talking about death, now she goes back to what she does best, which is sing about love delusions and deceptions. She’s a pro on writing about those themes and she did a quite wonderful job in this song.

Quote:
‘This song is very old, it comes from sections I did when I was making Seasons, but somehow it sound differently from all songs presented on that album, it didn’t fit that era, so we just didn’t released this song but I kept it in my heart. I simply love it and when we were back to work in this song again, it turned out into one of the standouts of this record. I just love everything on it, the strings, my voice, the desperation it transmits. Those lyrics express the way I feel now when I’m thinking about love. Gia told me that we needed to find other inspirations to describes the title of the album, it does represents death, but death can mean a lot of things, and so in this song I try to say that I’m dead for love. It was not intentionally but in the end it gave the sensation that I was singing about that.'

Lyrics

Little star in the sky
Tell me why are you all alone tonight?
Are you too small to shine?
Can you guide the way for my love to stay?

I’m shivering
In this cold night
I’m all alone
Little star, please shine

Please warm my heart, make my body heats, help me out
I’m freezing from the inside
How many times will I have to beg, for true love
I’m tired of waiting by…
…for someone, anyone
Someone, anyone

I’m blind by this immensely dark
I can't see the future even I look hard
I wonder where my love hides
When all this loneliness will leave my life?

Where are you?
I’m looking too
Can you find me a star?
Can you make me shine?

Please warm my heart, make my body heats, help me out
I’m freezing from the inside
How many times will I have to beg, for true love
I’m tired of waiting by…
…for someone, anyone
Someone, anyone

This emptiness is driving me insane
I light a cigarette just to burn down my words in flames
The days go by but the boredom remains the same
So please can someone save me?

Please warm my heart, make my body heat, help me out
I’m freezing from the inside
How many times will I have to beg, for true love
I’m tired of waiting by…
…for someone, anyone
Someone, anyone

5. Numb of Your Love
Released: June 9th, 2013
Format: Digital Download, Physically
Recorded: 2012
Genre: Trip Hop, soul pop
Length: 4:25
Label: Studio60
Writers: Abie Lena, Magie Lena
Producers: Gia Rose-Hilton

This is probably the most outrageous song on the album and not because of its lyrics, but due to its sound. Heavy influenced by Trip Hop genre, there’s an incredible dramatically string melody performed by violins that lead its listeners to a more sexy oriented way. Abie never sounded so sexy and sassy before, here she shows all her feminism trying to conquer her fans with a melodic tone on her voice.

This song I easily noticed as sister from the first two songs of the album, specially the firsts ingle ‘You make me die’, here Abie wrote about women desire to conquer a certain man, but in this case it’s nothing but a platonic love, which by the way she over repeats it in the chorus. Imagine a woman using all her seductive tricks to get the man that she wants to, that’s Abie Lena in this song, it feels like almost an alter-ego, probably it was born while Abie was in love for that doctor that she said before who is gay.

Production once again was done by Gia, the lyrics were written by Abie and her sister Magie Lena.

Quote:
‘This is probably the sexiest song I ever sung. It just shows my sensuality in a fragile way, it comes from the feelings I was into, when I wrote ‘You make me die’ but in this song it increased, because I already knew that it was a platonic love, but I was trying to act like sexy and pretend that I would ended up with him in the end. I love this track, because it doesn’t sound like anything I did before and I praise that to my sister, because she encourage me to work on different rhythm for this album. Music is all about evolution and growing and learning, and I refuse to me stuck in one single genre, I want my music to transcend the genres, whenever I fell I want to sing a metal song, I will, I don’t want to be controlled or restrained to a single sound. It’s boring.’

Lyrics

Lay your hands down on me
Make me your woman tonight
I’ve been longing for it
The day you’ll make me your wife

I promise I’ll do everything
I’ll clean the house, I’ll make you dinner
I’ll look after our child
And if you ask me to, I’ll be wild

But I feel you running away from me
As much as I try to be your perfect queen
You slip through my fingers
My loneliness will linger

Lay your hands down on me
Make me your woman tonight
I’ve been longing for it
The day you’ll make me your wife

It’s a platonic love, and it’s not enough
A platonic love, my heart's crush
It’s a platonic love and I’m numb
Of your love

I drive my car to your home
Spent the whole night there
I kept calling to your phone
To hear your breath and touch me

But I feel you running away from me
As much as I try to be your perfect queen
You slip through my fingers
My loneliness will linger

Lay your hands down on me
Make me your woman tonight
I’ve been longing for this
The day you’ll make me your wife

It’s a platonic love, and it’s not enough
A platonic love, my heart's crush
It’s a platonic love and I’m numb
Of your love

I’ll never stop loving you
Even if time will wrinkle my face
I don't care if you don't love me ohh
'Cause to a woman’s wish is never too late, never to late

It’s a platonic love, and it’s not enough
A platonic love, my heart's crush
It’s a platonic love and I’m numb
Of your love

Lay your hands down on me
Make me your woman tonight
I’ve been longing for this
The day you’ll make me your wife

It’s a platonic love, and it’s not enough
A platonic love, my heart's crush
It’s a platonic love and I’m numb
Of your love

6. Forever Bound
Released: June 9th, 2013
Format: Digital Download, Physically
Recorded: 2012
Genre: Soul Pop, Indie Pop
Length: 4:03
Label: Studio60
Writers: Abie Lena, Magie Lena
Producers: Gia Rose-Hilton, Rick Rubin

‘Forever Bound’ is probably the most intimate song on the record, it’s another soul pop song heavily emotional written by Abie and her sister for their late father. It’s basically a soul pop ballad, It consists of three main instruments, drums, guitar and piano, it also received some influence of indie pop, due to the singing style Abie took to perform this song.

Every album released by Abie Lena has a song dedicated to her father, she lost him in her childhood for cancer, and all the love that she feels for him is represented on the lines of the song. She reveals in this song that she will live forever incomplete, because he died and took a piece of her heart with him. Once in an interview Abie revealed that she just can’t sing a song for her father live, it is too much emotion for her to handle.
The song was produced by Gia Rose-Hilton and Rick Rubin.

Quote:
‘This is my father’s place on this record. It also represents another vision for ‘The End Stats Now’ when you lost someone you loved so much, it’s like the end of a whole chapter in your life. I’ll never miss him and I’m so thankful to have my mom and my sister with me. It’s the natural way of life, we all die in the end, there’s no doubt about it, I just wished he was still alive to listen my music, I’m sure he would be so proud.’

Lyrics

When you heart beat for the last time
And your ultimate last words made me cry
A piece of my heart died with you
No matter what they say, I will still cry
Every new morning that you’re not by my side
A piece of my heart died with you

And all the bitterness and hardness
Sometimes I can’t stand
Tears rolling my face
You were the only one, and now you’re gone
My whole life is being alone
I wish I was gone

As the rain is falling down
One more night I'm gonna drown
Into these memories
Where you live
Untouched, forever bound
As the rain is falling down
One more night I'm gonna drown
Into these memories
Where you live
Untouched, forever bound

If I had given my life in your place
Maybe from the sky I could still see your face
My love died with you in that dark day

And all the bitterness and hardness
Sometimes I can’t stand
Tears rolling my face
You were the only one, and now you’re gone
My whole life is being alone
I wish I was gone

As the rain is falling down
One more night I'm gonna drown
Into these memories
Where you live
Untouched, forever bound
As the rain is falling down
One more night I'm gonna drown
Into these memories
Where you live
My tears will forever drop

I won’t forget your face no more
Nobody in this world will make whole
My tears will drop forever more
As I lay down over your tomb

I still believe, someday I will be
Holding you in my arms
Feeling your touch in my heart
‘Cause I can see
You belong to me
And I belong to you

As the rain is falling down
One more night I'm gonna drown
Into these memories
Where you live
Untouched, forever bound
As the rain is falling down
One more night I'm gonna drown
Into these memories
Where you live
My tears will forever drop

I won’t forget your face no more
Nobody in this world will make me whole
My tears will drop forever more
As I lay down over your tomb

7. Again
Released: June 9th, 2013
Format: Digital Download, Physically
Recorded: 2012
Genre: Orchestral Pop
Length: 4:49
Label: Studio60
Writers: Abie Lena, Rick Rubin
Producers: Rick Rubin, Gia Rose-Hilton

Let’s go back to the very old Abie Lena, the one from ‘Love and HeartBreak’, once you get there let’s increase it orchestra, violins and choirs and make it very theatrical, like a Broadway show, then we have ‘Again’. This poetic track is performed over an elaborated orchestral melody which fuses piano, violins of all kinds and sounds, plus a beautiful choir. The melody of the song is almost a funeral march if it weren’t for the bridge where a light is seemed at the end of the tunnel. The bridge of this song delivered as an incredible vocal performance by Abie, where she raised her voice till the end of the song where she vocalizes a note from the ones she used to do when she started out.

Following the interpretations of the album’s titled ‘The End Starts Now’, this time Abie is singing about the end of a relationship, although we don’t know for sure if it is a romantic relationship or a family relationship or even a friendship relationship, the fact is that this song is about broke up, but acceptance too. Abie is taking the blame for her, but at the same time she compares the situation with an assault and even says that she’s suffering. The song grows to a more confident feeling, when it reaches its end, where Abie says that the person is better without her and that she won’t die because of that. Another interpretation for the song could be the end of something that was pushing you back.

The song was a collaboration between Abie and Rick, but Gia took part on the production of it too. After this song, there’s a switch of themes and sound on the record, Abie will gain more confidence and she’ll sing about different interpretations for ‘The End Starts Now’.

Quote:
‘We’re in the middle of a transition, and we’re required to leave something that’s not bringing happiness for us. So we do that, we claim to be saved, the same time we accept the guilty for being so passive for that situation. It’s a change, this song represents that, it was part of the process I was going through, while I was taking care of my health. I survived the darkest fear ever and so I was trying to raise me up. This song is about ending the ‘relationship’ I was having with my pessimism. It was time for a change.’

Lyrics

It’s all my fault
I made our life bitter like salt
I understand why you halted
I dug my own vault
So It’s all my fault
Between us were edified walls
Without worries, we spoke loud
Now I’m suffering this assault

Light my world again
Heal my wounds again
Save my soul
Give me hope
Again
Light my world again
Heal my wounds again
Save my soul
Give me hope
Again
Again

Why does this have to hurt?
Why can't we decline our lust?
And all our story is being buried
Nothing can save us
I killed both of us
And you’ll never want me back

Light my world again
Heal my wounds again
Save my soul
Give me hope
Again
Light my world again
Heal my wounds again
Save my soul
Give me hope
Again
Again

Light my world
Heal my wounds
Save my love
Again

Swimming to the surface
Breathing the air of sane
Leaving all the regrets
Moments I want to forget
And we’ll be alright
Time will heal our heart
Without me you’re better
And I won’t die

Light my world again
Heal my wounds again
Save my soul
Give me hope
Again
Light my world again
Heal my wounds again
Save my soul
Give me hope
Again
Again

It’s my fault
So, heal my soul
Again

8. No Love
Released: June 9th, 2013
Format: Digital Download, Physically
Recorded: 2012
Genre: Indie pop, Orchestral pop
Length: 4:42
Label: Studio60
Writers: Abie Lena, Lilly Stuart
Producers: Gia Rose-Hilton

The song was written by Abie Lena and Lilly Stuart, former ElectroDeath singer, it was produced by Gia Rose-Hilton. Melodies of ballooning orchestration and pizzicato strings overlapped the selfish and painful theme the lyrics carry. This song has a cinematic aspect all over it. It can be compared to classical erudite style like Sinatra. Violins and strings form an over dramatic sensation which matches equally the lyrics of the song.

Abie’s singing sounds like if she was in an opera concert, but she doesn’t reach the high lyrical notes, she rather chooses to keep the contralto notes. The whole singing drives us to a very old age of history, as if Abie were living back at the 1920’s.

Theme of the song is about someone who’s trapped in a relationship without loving the person who’s with her. Abie says right in the first verses of the song that she only dated this guys because of his financial condition, moments after as the song goes on, she reveals that this man loves her so much and she feels guilty for not match this love. In the end of the song she reveals the man that she doesn’t love him after all.

Quote:
‘There’s a single phrase that describes this song, it says that “the person I love doesn’t care about me at all, but the person I don’t love is the one who’s waiting for me right now” and that’s so sad to live. I told Gia I had this poem and she came up with the idea of us making an old cabaret inspired song, I say that in the end it turned out as an erudite song rather than a cabaret song. But it’s beautiful and there’s a sense of purity on its melodies despite the sexualized lyrics.'

Lyrics

Charmed by his sweet words
Nothing is in between us
Diamonds in my finger

He thinks that I’m pretty
He says that I’m witty
But I don’t say the same

He gives me all I want
He loves me for so long
I’m just getting used to this

Someone said that love is mean
I said he can trust in me
But in deep I don’t love him

I said I don’t love him

I tried, I tried so hard to feel
But when it’s not real
You cannot disguise
When I’m all alone in my secret place
And even he’d gave me years of grace
I don’t love him the same way he loves...
...me too
Slowly I’m drowning in my grudge
Someone told me one lover was enough
All his money and fortune blinded my heart rough
I'm starstruck

Went to watch an opera
He brought a pearl collar
He said ‘will you marry me?’

That moment when I chuckle
Looking at his buckle
No way to flee

Now I’m wearing white dress
Later I‘ll be undress
Sooner we’ll be having sex

Lying in his bed
He rest in my chest
And I’m not feeling anything
He’s saying he loves me

I tried, I tried so hard to feel
But when it’s not real
You cannot disguise
When I’m all alone in my secret place
And even he’d gave me years of grace
I don’t love him the same way he loves...
...me too
Slowly I’m drowning in my grudge
Someone told me one lover was enough
All his money and fortune blinded my heart rough
But I don’t feel in love

(There’s no love)

I tried, I tried so hard to feel
But when it’s not real
You cannot disguise
When I’m all alone in my secret place
And even he’d gave me years of grace
I don’t love him the same way he loves...
...me too
Slowly I’m drowning in my grudge
Someone told me one lover was enough
All his money and fortune blinded my heart rough
I have no love

(no love, no love)
no love
(no love, no love, no love)

9. To be Honest
Released: June 9th, 2013
Format: Digital Download, Physically
Recorded: 2012
Genre: Indie pop, Orchestral pop
Length: 4:42
Label: Studio60
Writers: Abie Lena, Arnaldo Antunes
Producers: Arnaldo Antunes, Gia Rose-Hilton

A mix of strings and percussion forms this Brazilian popular music inspired song. Abie sings it with a thin soft tone, slowly and very comfortable too, it’s a switch from what she was doing up until now in the record. After this song she incorporates her native country music roots and manages to give us some amazing Brazilian flavor.

Arnaldo Antunes is a Brazilian singer / songwriter very popular and successful nationally. He first worked with Abie on her first album in the song ‘I just want you to know’. he comes back to work with Abie in four songs this time.
Lyrically this song follows the storyline of the previous track, here the person who was in that relationship without feeling anything, decides to reveal what it’s inside her heart and finally she speaks openly about her lack of love. She tries to be gentle and even wishes good perspectives for the person who’s breaking up.

Writing process was done in Brazil with Abie and Arnaldo, later on when Abie was already in L.A. to finish the album, Gia Rose ended up finishing the production of the song too.

Quote:
‘My beloved Brazil, for this album I decided to invite Arnaldo to my house and we ended up writing around six songs together, four of them were chosen to be part of the record, and this one was a funny one to write. He was telling me a story he lived and I was kind of relating to that, so we started out with being honest and then I told him the name of the album and it fit perfectly to this song, because it’s another way to end a situation. I love the acoustic guitars on this song, they sound very unique.’

Lyrics

I am so sorry
For giving you hope
For making you believe
When my heart was closed
I know it was so mean
Deceiving you with all those words
Making you love me
The truth is I never felt
The way you felt for me
I’m sorry, baby you
Deserve someone better than me
All of the words profane
All the wishes in vain
Maybe in another time, without lies
We could stick together
But soon the time will pass
And slowly it’ll erase making you forget
Some things aren’t meant to be
No matter how we'd try
To be honest, I even gave my heart in sacrifice
Oh, please don’t think like that
That I'll neglect
‘Cause even far away I’ll carry you inside my head

The truth is I never felt
The way you felt for me
I’m sorry, baby you
Deserve someone better than me
All of the words profane
All the wishes in vain
Maybe in another time, without lies
We could stick together
But soon the time will pass
And slowly it’ll erase making you forget
Something’s not meant to be
No matter how we'd try
To be honest, I even gave my heart in sacrifice
Oh, please don’t think like that
That I will neglect
‘Cause even far away I’ll carry you inside my head

10. After All
Released: May 31st
Format: Digital, physical
Recorded: 2012
Genre: Pop, MPB
Length: 3:00
Label: Studio60
Writers: Abie Lena, Magie Lena, Arnaldo Antunes
Producers: Rick Rubin, Abie Lena, Arnaldo Antunes, Gia Rose

It was written by Abie and her famous sister Magie Lena, lead singer from past girl band sensation ElectroDeath. With an overall subject, the song has simple structure which the mixture of pop rock rhythm with Brazilian old fashion genre MPB. Abie wrote other MPB songs on her first two albums, but she never really push hersef into the genre, so songs that she did before were more of homages for her born country. This track sounds like Abie’s first album ‘Love and Heartbreak’ song ‘I just want you to know’, if you didn't know it, you can download it on ITunes.

Some electronic sounds effect of ambient sounds are added in the introduction melody of the song, but the main sound is composed of slow-tempo drums, piano riffs and guitar. The beautiful lyrics talks about a couple who comes on terms of the end of their relationship, but they remain friends, the kind verses express the comprehension feeling, the couple share with each other and even though they’re ending their relationship, both wish the best for each other.

Abie’s vocals remain contained throughout the entire song, she sings it in a high thin lyrical tone , calmly and peaceful, her vocal range does not varies so much, she keeps the tone and the tempo of the song. This is a nature way of singing from Brazilian MPB artists, Abie said several times that she looks for Brazilian composers whenever she’s writing an album, it’s an obligation for her to add some of her root genres on every Album she releases.

Quote:
'This one is a very special one, because I wrote it for my ex-boyfriend, I dated him by the time I was touring to promote my debut album, and I never had any good song written for him, I remember that most of the song from my second album "Seasons" were strictly about him and the abusive relationship we had. so this song is like me totally grown up and confident, talking about how we should had ended up by that time. I also take the blame or me too, because now I realize that a relationship is built between two people.'

Lyrics

And then, after all we’ve been through
Love has proved to be cruel
We’ve been denying the truth
And then, after all the disgrace
We both have things to say
But there’s no time to waste
I want you live without me
I’ll try to live without you

Please don’t…
…go breaking the silence
You can save your kindness
Only left us the violence
Please Don’t…
…say you used to love me
Because I’m down on my knees
And we’re already dying
I wish you could be better
I’ll try to be wiser

We…
…walked alone with the blame
We…
…were led to live chained
But we made our ways
Apart
Let’s be braver
Life will be sweeter
Only if we let it go
Then you can be happy
I’ll try to be fine

So now
We’re facing the facts
We’re undoing the swears
One step up the stair
So now
We found our freedom
There are no more reasons
Soon it’ll be clearer
I deeply wish you be happy
I know you wish me the same
After all...

11. Thank God
Released: June 9th, 2013
Format: Digital, physical
Recorded: 2012
Genre: Pop, MPB
Length: 3:00
Label: Studio60
Writers: Abie Lena,
Producers: Abie Lena, Arnaldo Antunes, Gia Rose

The last two songs of the record are completely different from anything you have heard so far. For this particular one, Abie followed the direction of the previous track ‘To be Honest’ and wrote a track about meeting your true love.
The song has again lots of acoustic guitar, piano and a simple driven drum sequence. The melodies were constructed to match the simplicity of the lyrics and so Abie’s warm but thin vocals. It ends up being a soft calmly beautiful love song.

Lyrics are a rant of someone who finally found a true love, probably it came from Abie’s deepest wish of finding someone to share with her a love story. She often compares her situation with different things, like she said her heart had retired and suddenly someone came and hired it again, this alludes that she had given up on finding a true life, so this meeting was not expected. She begins the song thanking God and ends it thanking God again.

Quote:
‘This song comes from my deepest wish of love, I wrote it from the perspective of its melody, Arnaldo composed it and I wrote the verses for it, it was like this beautiful pure happy song, I needed to write lyrics that would match the sound, and again regarding the title of the record, it means finally a positive side for it, now I’m saying that the end is for sadness, I’m feeling happy again. I kind of feel obeyed to end my records with a positive message, I spent the whole record singing about dark heavy thoughts, and it’s good to give the listeners a positive love message, even though it lasted two songs only.’

Lyrics

Thank God
Now that I found you
I really can’t explain
Why do I deserve to?
You

Nobody else
Cared about myself
Who cared, I wasn’t affine
Outside I was just a shell
Empty

My heart was used to
Be left in solitude
But who’d imagined to
I’d find love in you, and you love me too

You came to stay
You seem to remain
You’re the reason I say
And sing

Long ago my heart had retired
Without any hope
That someday it would be hired
Then everything changed

Now that you are here
My sadness disappeared
You have dried my tears
I sing

Na na na…

My heart was used to
Be left in solitude
But who’d imagined to
I’d find love in you, and you love me to

You came to stay
You seem to remain
You’re the reason I say
And sing

Long ago my heart had retired
Without any hope
That someday it would be hired
Then everything changed

Now that you are here
My loneliness disappeared
You have dried my tears
I sing
Thank God

12. Say a pray
Released: June 9th, 2013
Format: Digital Download, Airplay
Recorded: 2012
Genre: Pop, Jazz
Length: 3:18
Label: Studio60
Writers: Abie Lena, Arnaldo Antunes
Producers: Gia-Rose, Abie Lena, Arnaldo Antunes

The final song of the album is also a positive message song like its previous track. Abie wrote this track with Arnaldo Antunes, but Gia join them for production of it. It’s a mellow classic jazz song with warm breathy vocals performed by Abie.

It uses piano and a slowdown bass and drums which gives the song a peaceful mood especially combined with the lyrics of it. Abie is singing for all people in the world that needs a pray, basically she’s giving commands to people to pray, she sings for a better world.

Quote:
‘This song is one of my favorites on the album, I just love the fact that it is simple and warm and beautiful in every aspect of it, the melodies are so driven and the lyrics are so innocent and pure. I wanted my fans to feel something more comfortable with my songs, so this song ends the album perfectly in a good positive mood, which by the way gives the title of this record another interpretation.’

Lyrics

Say a pray for the unloved
Say a pray for me and you and for our friends too
Say a pray for the poor
Say a pray for those ones who can’t share

And nothing is better than
Have the love spread
And all humans in the world
Living equally
Erasing all injustices

Say a pray for the convicted
God will judge them
Say a pray for our parents
They love us unconditionally

And all wars in this world
Won’t lead us to anywhere
So, why declaim bad words
Let’s just stick together and
Say a pray for the world
Say a pray for you.

OOC: I've always loved your characters and this is no different. Its great. I love the lyrics and its great to see Abie back. The consistency and simplicity of this RP is also very nice contrast from very dense detail that is also prevalent here.

Billie: This album is pretty great. You've always been one of my favorite artists. Guess this means were going to be in competition on the charts. Haha. I say that because I feel this album could absolutely go number one.

It was an honor and privilege to work with you on your record. And I can't wait for us to head out on tour together. Your about to shut shit down. I am so happy for you! Love ya!

Abie: We're about to have a blast on tour, I'm sure of it! you're such a huge inspiration for me, you've conquered so much in your life and you are still so kind and generous.
