June 14, 2013|Jennifer Armstrong Performance "Tonight we have a special guest performing her latest single, Lock Away and Hide. She recently announced her first headlining tour in support of her album, TWENTY-THREE, which debuted #1 on the album charts. Please welcome the beautiful and very much talented, Jennifer Armstrong!"
After Jimmy Kimmel announces Jennifer's name as the performer for tonight's show, Jen is standing on the next stage beside him, dressed in black attire from head to toe which consisted of a black top and a short black skirt, along with some black heels.. Her hair was noticeably lighter, probably due to her latest dye attempts. She had on bright red lipstick as she faced the crowd who cheered for her. As she stood there, her single Lock Away and Hide started to play lightly in the background. Her back up singers, 3 females, were vocalizing in the beginning as the band played along with the track. As she started to sing, she placed her right hand on the microphone as it was still on the microphone stand. Her voice began low and soft, as it did on the track. Her eyes were open, staring out into the crowd for a few moments then they closed as she began to really feel the moment and get into the song she was singing. It did not take Jennifer a lot to feel the lyrics she was singing since after all, she wrote them and they carried personal value to her. This carried on into the chorus of the song where she began to sing louder, her back up singers now harmonizing as she sang.
Buh, Bah, Bum (x16)
[Verse 1] "I don't know who I am I'm doing things that I have said Would never happen to me But it's not a dream No one took me away I decided I couldn't stay In the same room as you Not this way
[Pre-Chorus] Maybe I should, let down this wall I won't just walk, until I can crawl Out of this hole, that keeps devouring me And if I do this, don't have to pretend I know what I want, I know all my friends Are there for me, so I don't need to run
[Chorus] Cos that's not my true identity On the outside I lock away and hide The regret and sadness that never seizes To torment me deep down inside It takes advantage of me, oh how it teases It teases me"
As the R&B like beat kicked in, Jennifer snapped her fingers to her side. She grinned a little as she sang, pleased so far with her performance. Her head moved as she changed different pitches, going from low to high notes. The bright lights above her were changing swiftly as she performed, lighting up the stage around her. When she reached the chorus again, she grabbed the microphone with both of her hands, belting the words out. The back up singers again would harmonize as she sang, creating a melodic sound as all 4 blended together. The band behind her would follow her lead, playing the notes perfectly in order for it to sound presentable. After many hours of practice, Jen wanted to ensure her fans she could still perform and carry her vocals like no other performer. A lot of her popularity was based solely on her voice but her tour would give her fans another side of her; a more entertaining based performance. The bridge was about to kick in and Armstrong would also change gears as well as the track.
[Verse 2] "I wish I could try To be someone else for the night Inside it's hurting me To hear you cry Don't want you to say That this will always be the way That I will live my life I know it's not right
[Pre-Chorus] It's just not fair, that you aren't here To lose you like this, was my biggest fear Tried to go back, but the damage was done I wanna escape, no light I have found The darkness it follows, me all around Until I am six feet under
[Chorus] Cos that's not my true identity On the outside I lock away and hide The regret and sadness that never seizes To torment me deep down inside It takes advantage of me, oh how it teases It teases me"
This was considered as the climax of the song, where she would show off her vocal ability. As she prepared for it, her eyes were closed tightly in order for her to reach the notes she needed to get to. The singers were assisting her by ad libbing and acting as an echo to her own voice. When she reached the high note, the singers were lowly singing, allowing Jen to bring the song back to the chorus again. She would sing the first line, opening her eyes again and watching the audience before her as they swayed to the song. She loved the single because of its noted R&B influence. Even though sometimes it was a challenge to sing continuously, she loved to perform it as well. Getting close to the ending of the song, Jennifer would make sure to end on a good note (literally) as her vocal dominance continued to reign even as she held her note. It was true, due to her previous personal issues, her voice was not able to reach the capacity as it was before but that never hindered her as she still was far more superior in that area than most.
[Bridge] "People constantly thinking that I'm just A pretty girl with a charming personality Forever having fun, without a care in the world Truth be told they've got the wrong kind of girl They've got the wrong girl
[Chorus] Cos that's not my true identity On the outside I lock away and hide The regret and sadness that never seizes To torment me deep down inside It takes advantage of me, oh how it teases It teases me Oh how it teases me Ohh how it teases me It teases me"
Once she finished, the audience clapped and cheered for her. Jennifer smiled widely, thanking them. Jimmy then appeared beside her, also clapping for her. "That was Jennifer Armstrong everyone with her latest single, Lock Away and Hide! Make sure if you haven't go download it on iTunes right now. We'll be right back!" |

The fact that we write entire albums all on our own while the biggest stars in the world have 45 co-writers on ONE track?? Where the hell are OUR record deals and GRAMMYS?" -BrownSugar |
