Following on from an album that revolved around money, fame and hopeful dreams, the successful duo, who have gone on to build a large fan base with a multi-million selling debut album, are stripping things back this time round and keeping their lyrical subjects down to earth. Jared Nevo, producer and one half of Hey Lolita, reveals that "Never Been Hurt Before" is a pretty good example of what you can expect from their new music. "We only wanted to use real instruments on this album and make music how it used to be made, before technology came along and in a way ruined that raw, authentic feel to a record," states Jared. "This new single definitely gives a hint of what you can expect, both from the lyrics and sound wise. The record is definitely a lot more mellow, there's a lot of different emotions throughout it all, and that's what we wanted to focus on the most." It seems this time round, the duo are focusing on their strongest skills, Jared puts his production talents to use, whilst Arianna's writing and vocal skills are put on show, as she is the sole vocalist and writer on the track. The songstress, who recently revealed she would be recording an album with Ryan Ross Hernandez, explains that she wrote the track about a "special person" in her life, and also explained the artwork to the single, which she helped design with Jared. "It's such a beautiful song where the instruments just blend together so well. The words came to me with ease, and having Jared match the music up to it, it managed to come out perfectly," Arianna comments. "There's this relaxed, almost sad sound to the song, and then the chorus comes in with a slight punch, and there's this hope in it, it's catchy and definitely has that sing-along quality." "The cover to the song is a little left-field and different, but we wanted a single picture to almost unfold out into this story, where people can interpret it in many different ways. It's dark, but you see a slight light somewhere in the distance, and it matches the lyrics. It's all about being hurt and experiencing the worst times of your life, going down the wrong track and getting lost, before a special person comes into your life and guides you out of that darkness and helps you overcome it. Obviously I know both of you personally, each to some extent, and I'm proud that this is the direction your music is taking, a more natural, real instrument driven sound. I think it's a new challenge for Jared but with this single, it's indicated that he can achieve it. Arianna is a close friend of mine, we are making an album together, and she already knows I think her voice is exceptional. One of the best, most unique voices I've ever heard. So I look forward to hearing the record later this summer. Maybe I've heard some of it already? (P.S. You shouldn't be writing such cute songs about me, Ari, darling.)

Your debut was one of my favourite records from last year, but this lead single has topped everything on that album. It's really a credit to an artist when they continue to get better and better withe very release. I love the direction here, it's raw and packs more weight. Arianna's voice and lyrics sounding beautiful as usual, they could mend a broken heart on their on right. Jared's work must not be forgotten either, this track comes together beautifully. One of the strongest singles of 2013 so far.

The album receives its release later this month on North Hill Records, and is said to show a huge artistic growth, both lyrically and sonically. "It's a brilliant record that we've worked on for a while now" reveals Jared, "We miss how honest and real music used to be, and we're really bringing back those golden times with this record." Compared to the album's first single "Never Been Hurt Before", "Sick Tragedy" similarly sees Arianna take lead vocals with Jared producing the music. The song, which both of them wrote, is said to be the album's most "mainstream sounding song" as Arianna calls it, describing the track as "a tale of destructive love".
