The recent months when Chanel is heard at work on her new album, 'Unpretentious' a lot of producers walked out on the production and flow of the album. Chanel said she wanted something different to work with the album and took a whole new direction with the album and deleted over 25 tracks she recorded and started all over. Chanel felt like 'it wasn't the material I needed to really get me where I need to be in my career.." Chanel never been the R&B chart topper, even with her previous famous singles 'Basket of Roses' and 'Without You' The singer is now working on a new material from her album. 'Unused Excuses' was produced by Elijah Blake, another R&B artist but mostly producing from today's R&B stars. Elijah wanted to give Chanel a power ballad to also express her emotions and truth on about her relationship she just got out of. He produced this heavy uptempo that features drums and sythns of a beautiful piano in the background but then mastered the vocal arrangement perfectly to the uptempo. Chanel wrote this song on her own, the first time in her music that she has written a complete song alone. She wanted to share her emotions with her fans this time around and to show the personal one on one feel to her new music that she is recording with Elijah and Gia. She gave this record the vocal power it needed but gave it a deep story that goes beautifully with the chorus of It seemed you use them l when you want them to be said l all your unused excuses l is the reason our love is dead. She explains the term 'unused excuses' as an relationship, explaining as if her boyfriend or lover has plenty of excuses to cover the lies and betrayal he does to her. She explains it as if the excuses he haven't said it are already stored, already bought. He has a truthful lie to every lie or sadness that Chanel will feel. He doesn't love her like he said he does. Excuses are the foundation of the relationship. During the verse, Chanel is in her most lowest register in her vocal range. It sounds as soft, very heartfelt as she sings the harmony in the background as well. The soft and high falsetto of adlibs are in the background as Chanel sings in the low register, her chest voice is heavy but her timbre is strong. (Similar to Toni Braxton's head voice) During the pre-chorus she gets more stronger in her timbre as she rises her register to the medium pitch of the record. She belts out the pre-chorus towards the head, hitting three octaves notes in just a few seconds, belting out in a full voice, mixing her chest register with a slight of her timbre to help her control her notes and ranges. She gets the chorus and belts out in a high chest register, belting out every vowel in the chorus, continuing to impress the audience when riffs in the background of the chorus arrangement is heard, she will do riffs in a high whistle tone. The second verse, she is more relaxed in her latex because her tone is more defined, settled and easy but then returns to her high belting range in her chest voice this time during the pre and main chrous of the record. During the bridge, she does something that Chanel never done before. She hits a soprono opera reasonance notes, its all one pitch, the instrumental stops to only the piano being played as she sings in a deep register but it's kind of shaking, but she still manages to maintain the vocal strength it needs to last. The chrous suddens comes back with only the background vocal being the vocal power she did eariler in the songs with the high chest register, but you can hear in smokey tone in her voice during adlibs along with the background, taking it to a smokey tone then a high falsetto to the end of the song, that then echos the record and ended it with a nice settled low note that holds for the remaing :42 seconds of the song.
