PIXIE: LIVE AT THE GOLDIE AWARDS July 28th - 2013A lone man sits in the corner of the stage, playing an unfamiliar tune as the audience watches in silence, a few cheers every now and then but nothing too loud in order to take away from the artistry of the performance. After a while, the first few notes of Pixie's single are heard being played, automatically giving away the special surprise of who's performing. The Taiko drummers are also positioned just a few feet away from the stage, each drummer pounding loudly on the instrument as the song suggests. They collide with the violins, creating the perfect instrumental directly from the track itself. As time passes, Pixie is shown to the right of the stage, in a brilliantly designed costume which is made to look like a dress yet underneath are her back up dancers, all dressed in leather almost BDSM type clothing. Black, the color Pixie's chosen to be most represented onstage, is worn by everyone including the band players.
She is speaking the spoken introduction of the song as the music continues to play in the background, the back up singers translating in English as they speak in unison. Behind her, a giant screen enlarging her performance for others to see. Pixie's outfit is almost contrast to one singing a song about reigning but it gives her that gothic lolita look she has perfected so well over the few months. [Spoken] Me kaikki elämme ja oppia elämään (We all live and learn to live) Me kaikki rakastamme ja oppia rakastamaan (We all love and learn to love) Me kaikki elämme ja rakkautta, mutta usein sekoittavat rakastava elää (We all live and love but often confuse loving for living) I am alive I am alive I am, aliveOnce she finishes her spoken introduction, the music pauses for a second, as the men run from under her dress, helping her down in order to walk on the stage. The giant black material is tossed on the stage, staying there for the rest of the performance. She is wearing signature Pixie style clothing, a see through top with a black bra on underneath, leather shorts with thigh high boots and a giant black bow in her hair that resembles a spider. She looks out at the crowd, astounded by the size and it pumps her up even more. She uses this as her adrenaline, her encouragement to do her best. Although Pixie had been rehearsing, nothing could prepare her for the actual show like the show itself. She was closing the show, a huge honor in her eyes. She'd be the last performer they saw before they went home and talked about the awards. She knew there were tons of artists, some her inspirations, that gave amazing performances ahead of her but now wasn't the time to think of them. She had to put on her game face, her diva-esque behavior and kill it. She placed her hand on hip as she sang her heart out on the first verse, the crowd eating it up because they were excited to see their favorite Finnish singer there.Oh oh oh oh oh, Whoah Oh oh oh oh oh Oh oh oh oh oh, Whoah Oh oh oh oh oh
[Verse 1] I don't know where I've been, hanging to life Stuck on the promises you left me in your eyes Won't be let down again You don't know where we end, a never ending rope Filled with a lifetime of our downsides I can't cope Is the end coming close?
I've put up with much too much of your shit It won't die, diePixie loved going out and putting on a performance like non other, it was her niche in live shows. She wanted to do something fresh yet entertaining and her concept was simple; she was going to entice the audience with her royal demeanor. Her back up dancers were almost dressed like jesters, juggling and twirling batons in the air for the crowd's amusement but Pixie made sure to not get lost in all of the action. She made herself front and center each time, marching around the stage like she owned and she did. The dancers had on white masks to cover their face. They are all toned and muscular, of course if they wanted to dance with Pixie. Going into the chorus, two of the male dancers behind her get on the hands and knees, crawling towards each other and Pixie walks over to them, sitting on their backs as they carry her across the stage. She lifts her hand to the crowd, waving it as royalty does and smiles while singing.[Chorus] I've never looked at life the same I've never learned to love again A prophecy has come to life My reign, My reign My reign
Whoa, oh oh oh oh oh Whoa, oh oh oh oh oh
[Verse 2] Had the crown in my eye, stitched to my chest It is the only thing that beats when I'm at rest You won't know how I feel I won't fuck with your kind I gave it a chance If I can't have everything I've worked so hard to get Is the end, is the end, is the end coming close?Pixie walks back to the front of the stage, bending her knees as she reaches out to acknowledge a few fans in the front row. Behind her now, there are a series of different scenes going on. Besides the band playing, the dancers are doing activities regarding the theme for her stage. One man is doing back flips, getting the crowd pumped while a few others are juggling again, similar to jesters in a royal court. She is now on the second verse of the song which seems to be moving along quickly. The crowd is on fire, cheering for her and anticipating what she'll do next in her performance. A quick glance at some more faces and allowing them to reach out to her, she tells the crowd to 'JUMP!' as she bounces with them, the sea of fans moving up and down quite a sight to see. [Chorus] I've never looked at life the same I've never learned to love again A prophecy has come to life My reign, My reign My reign
I've never looked at life the same (Whooa) I've never learned to love again (Whooa) A prophecy has come to life (Whooa) My reign, My reign My reign (Whooa)
Whoa, oh oh oh oh oh Whoa, oh oh oh oh ohOnce she gets to the bridge, Pixie walks over to the microphone stand as the Taiko drummers make themselves known again with the banging of their drums. Each loud thump is heard while the violins are playing vigorously along with the rest of the band. The crazy build up is easily the best part of the song and always fun to perform. Pixie's voice has changed now, light and airy in a falsetto voice while she's singing into the mic. She can hear the crowd loud and clear as they sing along with her, each pauses prompting the Taiko drums to bleed in, her voice being heard in the background speaking in English for the translation. As it continues to build up, Pixie raises her hands to the crowd, telling them to raise them as well.
A slight pause and silence before Pixie's voice comes booming back in, not light or airy this time, but loud and grungy. Her voice is almost drained out by the sound of the loud instruments but she manages to stay in the same grasps as them, really belting out her words. The lights are spazzing out, making it feel like strobe lights as she performs. The dancers are all together on one side of the stage in contrast to Pixie who is really focusing on her voice right now and the emotion she's trying to convey. [Bridge] We are fools of a lie (Me kaikki elämme ja oppia elämään) Carry until we die We are fools of a lie (Me kaikki rakastamme ja oppia rakastamaan) Carry until we die We are fools of a lie (Me kaikki elämme ja rakkautta, mutta usein sekoittavat rakastava elää) We'll carry until we die Carry until (Carry until..)
But through it all Through it all But through it all Through it all My feelings never changed! While she continues to repeat the 'I'll reign' part with the audience, chanting it seems, Pixie makes her way to the dancers as they kneel down and allow her to fall into their arms. They stand and lift her up while handing her a gold scepter. She clutches it tightly in her hands while lifting her head back and closing her eyes. Just as the audience applauds for her, she whispers into the microphone, 'I've put up with much too much of your shit/It won't die, die, die' while the back up singers gently sing the 'Whooa's'. After she finishes singing, she drops the microphone, causing a loud thud to be heard while being carried out slowly off the stage. [Chorus] I've never looked at life the same (Never changed!) I've never learned to love again (Never changed!) A prophecy has come to life (Never changed!) My reign, My reign My reign
I'll reign (x8)
I've put up with much too much of your shit (Whooa) It won't die, die, die (Whooa) (x2) |
