Hannah has taken on a newer tone for the album and a more diverse sound as opposed to her regular pop influenced tracks. This is obvious to hear in her new single, 'Northern Lights'. Hannah Beth may be just ready to continue in music after settling down in her personal life. The track was inspired by her love life and was produced by her baby brother, Hayden Merjos. Hayden was able to take Hannah's vocals and sound to a different level in her career, but not making her unrecognizable as to say she changed completely. After switching up to a slower more R&B like sound, Hannah looks to continue with the same tone on her new single, marking her new era right now in music. Although she is probably the second most successful Merjos in music, she is by far the quietest and most reserved member of the family.
"It was a challenge to get her to open up really. Hannah's one of the most secretive person's I know. She just keeps everything inside but convince her to tell a story in music and you get what you want. This single is probably the most you'll get out of her about her relationship with her husband. She's all about being cryptic and keeping to herself. It almost makes her that much interesting rather than just putting it all out there." - Hayden MerjosSong DescriptionIn the beginning of the song, a strand of nature sounds, the sound of a bird chirping and then an introduction to drum beats. 'Northern Lights' is a full-on power ballad replete with stadium reverb, marching band drums and a melody so remarkably beautiful, it can only possibly belong to the vocals of Hannah Beth. Her voice is equivalent to those of a soulful and yet popish mixture of Adele and Jessie Ware. In the first verse, she lingers on certain notes and give them life, prolonging the notes and holding the notes for a brief amount of time but just enough time to leave the listener in a gaze. 'Your side, eye to eye/We know this game of life', is where she does this effect, zoning in on the 'i' syllable. Her ability to control her range, is a standout on the track, switching from a medium, to high soprano and then low vocal range, making for an impressionable track. Her vocals are light and breathy at first, having a strong after taste to it once she goes into the chorus. Her balancing act plays out musically, too, with gorgeous, bell-like synths and chiming piano chords. These high stakes bring out the best in Hannah Beth; she commands the track like she has something to lose, sounding fierce as she dares a good thing to turn sour. The piano chords strike once in the chorus, as does the bell-like synths making for a soft yet powerful ballad that has the sounds of a beautiful imagery scene.
Her beautiful soprano notes for the break in between the chorus and second verse, only proves her range is impeccable beyond comparison. As one of the talented young artists in the industry, mostly underrated, Hannah Beth's ability to captivate an audience with her voice is a talent in itself but to also tell a story so tenderly. The second verse is sung with the same grace as the first, her vocals now becoming more apparent and powerful as she is singing about the inescapable feeling of the love she shares with another. The boomy, earthy beats transcend the song, bringing it together in the bridge while it strips the synths and piano, leaving only the beat. Her soft voice ringing in the ears of the listeners while picturing the words she sings, 'Our aura's on you/We couldn't hide it if we tried/Our love is brand new/But we walk like champions/We'll never be through/And this feels like it can't be contained/Our hearts to blame', this particular section she is singing about the unbreakable bond of love she shares and how their love can be compared to an aura, being seen wherever they go. It is these types of lyrics that give the romantic notion of Hannah's tone. Once she goes into the pre-chorus, the drums quickly double up and go back into the chorus for another round as the song fades out with the nature songs from the beginning."I wanted to go for something quite soothing at first. When you have children and you're recording for the first time being away from them, soothing just came to mind. It was nothing too crazy. Hayden did a wonderful job producing this track. He sent me the beat and it was easy to adjust my lyrics to it. I think of Northern Lights when I hear this song because you can see them so clear in the air but only at a certain point in time, like love. When you're truly in love, you can just see the aura's bursting from both people but only when it's true so I made the little analogy there. It's a fun song, I loved recording it. I think this is the first track of many from my new album that will have a sound to it you can imagine in your head. To describe this record in one word? Drums. Lots and lots of drums because it is definitely a deal breaker in a song. With the perfect piano and pitch, you've got a great song but add in drums and it takes on a different persona."[Lyrics]
[Verse 1] Every night, I hold tight I never wanna lose your love Your side, eye to eye We know this game of life
I know we're alright They'll never come a day I'll leave you alone to fight To fight
[Chorus] Fever's running wild, I'm dreamin' It can be the coldest, everyone knows it Fever's running wild, I'm dreamin' The curtains all start to fall Fever's running wild, I'm dreamin' It can be the coldest, everyone knows it Fever's running wild, I'm dreamin' The curtains all start to fall
Hoo, Ooh, Ooh Hoo, Ooh, Oo-oh
[Verse 2] We'll shine bright, through the sky You can see our colors for miles I'm your guide, you are mine There's no way you can miss us
I know we're alright They'll never come a day I'll leave you alone to fight To fight
[Bridge] Our aura's on you We couldn't hide it if we tried Our love is brand new But we walk like champions We'll never be through And this feels like it can't be contained Our hearts to blame

The fact that we write entire albums all on our own while the biggest stars in the world have 45 co-writers on ONE track?? Where the hell are OUR record deals and GRAMMYS?" -BrownSugar |
