The U.S. Senate has confirmed that Judge Sonia Sotomayor, in a 68-31 vote is the first Hispanic on the Supreme court, how do you guys feel about that? I am so happy that Obama picked her, my mom called me in disbelief. Edited by user 07 August 2009 08:24:39(UTC)

A woman in America. Not very interesting to non-Yanks. But quite a big deal as far as American politics goes. Edited by user 07 August 2009 10:00:16(UTC)

Why is this such a big deal? =/ In the world we live in suprised it didnt happen earlier. Agreed, there are still some dopey twat's who are racist in the world, but in general the UK and America are very acceptle to black, hispanic and asian people. And so it's good that it did happen, but lets not go crazy over it. Obama's already kind of stolen the 'first non white person to get a powerful job' of the year award, so surely that was already proof that no one cares about race any more?
But hey, tis up to you if you feel it's a battle one by 'the hispanic's, and it just as Obama did how far we've come, which is only good :)
Sorry if I'm wrong about it being a big deal I was just from the way you made it sound is like America was having street parties about it. |

Well the reason it's a big deal is that it has taken so long to happen. Plus a place on the supreme court is an extremely powerful position. Imagine the fuss about the first Hispanic president. Well this isn't as big as that, but it's still pretty important for a country that does still have significant problems relating to race, even if many of them are historical |
