VARA GALLO: TWELVEAllmusic website article Vara Gallo's third single from her upcoming album "Lover's Eyes" - titled Twelve - is an alternative rock, trip hop work, draped in all the dream pop static and shoegazing layers that you've come to expect out of Ms. Gallo.
It's also delightfully sexy.
Vara finally takes a step back from all of the drama that has been revolving around her and other singers, and finally calms down. "I had to stop talking about how pissed off I was at everybody," Vara Gallo told us. "My publisist said I was coming off as a bitter bitch." Everybody likes hearing about all the fights and drama that famous people get into - it makes us feel better about ourselves. But what do we like to hear about even more than fighting and drama? Sex. And Vara Gallo knows that.
The song opens with a focus on Gallo's delicate vocals, keeping it brooding and deep as she sings about - who we assume to be - her boyfriend, Trent D'amore and his come-hither eyes. Nobody at Allmusic has seen Trent's eyes like that before, but we can judge by Vara's lyrics that they're pretty sexy. Vara definitely doesn't seem like one for foreplay as she immediately launches her listeners into a play-by-play of her sex life, keeping the same alternative rock sound. The lines "Let me ride to heaven / Let me feel the swelling / Oh, let me concentrate," seem to build into that more into that trip hop territory until it hites it crescendo when Vara sings, "I can feel it / When I taste / Like the wind / I breathe / Crawling inside of me, baby / Oh oh oh." This chorus is the reason why people will love this song: It's so Vara Gallo-esque that it's almost painful, and yet, we have a hard time finding anything completely wrong with Vara Gallo, so what's the big deal? She's sexy, she's dark, and she's broody. We love her, so why not?
The song continues at about that same course, the rise and falls of the alternative rock track going the same way every time for the same chorus - but, of course, buried under an avalanche of end-of-days fuzz. But it's the grooves and melody that Vara Gallo has wrenched out of the dense, sonic slurry of Twelve that makes it all pay off.
And if you don't buy the single for the music, at least buy it so you can look at Vara Gallo naked on the cover. It will not disappoint.-- Allmusic TITLE: Twelve BY: Varanese Gallo WRITTEN BY: Varanese Gallo GENRE: Alternative rock, trip hop, dream pop, shoegazing LABEL: Titanic RecordsIs that you doing that to me?
